WRONG! :splat:
[CORRECTION=scienide09]You can have an avatar at any time, if it is one of the provided avatars. Go to My Account (link at the top of every page) and clock Edit Avatar. There are tons of civ-related avatars. State Property is one of them. After 30 posts and 30 days, you can upload any image (with a reasonable size) as an avatar, under Edit Avatar in My Account.[/CORRECTION]
(And since you're new here, the [CORRECTION] thing was just a little forum humor.)

Quite right.
However, since mackan95 mentioned an iMac and finding files, I automatically assumed it was a custom avatar being discussed. Should have clarified.

@mackan95: If I read correctly and you play on an iMac, you might be interested in the CFC CivIV Mac forum. It's not as active as the main forum, but they're a helpful bunch, and AlanH (the mod) is good at keeping up with it.

I've got a city that won't stay out of revolt... It's a pretty big holy city, a former AI capital with a rich bfc. What can I do?

If the AI built up a lot of culture in the city (which is probably the case if it is a holy city) it will keep having these revolts. Your options are:

1)Build up sufficient of your own culture to counteract their residual culture. This may take quite some time, and be very difficult if the city is close to the borders of the AI.

2)It is possible to reduce the chance of a revolt each turn by increasing the number of military units in the city. The number required to remove it completely may be impractical if the city is large though.

3)Push back the AI borders until there is at least one row of your own cities between them and the rebelling city. This may merely move the problem elsewhere.

4)Destroy the former owners of the city completely. This will eliminate all residual culture, and so should be 100% effective in preventing revolts.

Please can someone tell me what does ,, check XML ,, mean???
i cant play CI4 because of it,simply it cannot start.what does that mean??
please help
bojan

XML is a way of writing data. Civ has a lot of data written in XML.

If your CIV blocks at this part, it surely means your installation is buggy. Can't possibly say more.

The Mac forum is only for Technical Support and Bug Reports though. It's not like they're playing a different game and need different strategies.

can someone tell why civilizations on CIV3 dont attack eachother, they only attack me?

You may want to ask this in the Civ3 forums.

On the assumption that you meant to say Civ4, I would say that AIs will attack whoever looks militarily weak, especially if their attitude towards the weak party is worse than Pleased. YMMV depending on the AI personality in question - some will backstab their friends and a few are completely crazy.

I've seen many AI nations get conquered or vassalined by other AIs in my games.

Is there some kind of FAQ/strategy guide to the various Spy functions (in BtS) and their effects out there? Something along the lines of which are the most cost effective attacks, and the exact effect of Spy attacks?

For example, Influence Civic/Influence Religion sound like they would be rather useless on the surface - the AI could just switch back whenever it wanted. Although for non-Spiritual AIs, presumably they'd have to deal with a turn or more of Anarchy.

(And I was quite disappointed when the "send a city into revolt" function did NOT have the usual effect of weakening AI units in the city by 50%. Turned an easy takeover into a bit of a nailbiter.)

Regarding Vassals: Exactly what risks are there that a vassal (gained by capitulation, and consequently very upset with me) will break free? I gather that if they lose 50% or more of their "original" land, they're freed, and if they get up to either of 50% of my population or land area, they're also freed. But I'm not sure what other parameters there are.

In short, I would like to know how much abuse my vassal will take before walking out.

This thread gives all the maths behind espionage:

For more general strategic advice, there still isn't really a detailed guide. Hmm...

#2 No, those are the only ways it can break free.
As I understand it he can also break free by refusing a demand for reasorces, but that results in war.

I'm finding that "yearning to rejoin the motherland" will effectively flip a city even to a different AI civ.

After wiping Spain off my continent, it unfortunately hid a mystery city from me. I had an unbelievably hard time keeping double holy city Madrid from turning Japanese.

I eventuually went WAY back in time and destroyed the Spanish empire centuries earlier, solving the problem Captain Kirk style. It also ended up with an early diplomatic victory and a 20K+ score which was a new high for me.

That's what I was thinking of. Saladin has a bunch of money that I would like. I thought I had demanded all of it when he capitulated, but apparently he was holding out on me.

I normally like so give my vassels important infrastructure and defensive techs, and that is when I get all their money.

I hope this is a really stupid question.

I keep seeing people talk about a "power graph" that compares the military power of the player and AI. Where is this? Are they just talking about the demographics list, or is there an actual chart the visibly shows a line representing a measure of the military power?

Where do I find this?

Thanks.
