Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Well, you'll want to edit a map in WB to prepare the scenario the way you want. When you're done with it, you save it and clean it in a word processor. There's a lot that can be done editing the file and I couldn't tell you everything because I'm pretty ignorant in that regard, but TMIT has a guide called TMIT's Guide to Strategy & Tips Series Map Creation that takes you through the basics in a very easy to read way.
What about just a map where you can be any Civ and can start anywhere on the map?

I'm not sure if you mean random starts or chosen starts...

You can probably mod in chosen starts, but that would be weird to me since the nature of Civ is not an RTS game, but a strategy game that requires exploration. I find it bad enough that I know there is a new World whenever I play Terra. XD

If you mean to start a game, in general, then Play Now! and Custom Game and Custom Scenario already do that, don't they?

and if you really want to, you can world build your settler and warrior to a different part of the map if you don't like where you start.

Is there a way to rename an unit ? BUG propose me to name them automatically at creation, but that's not what I want. I want to name my super medic, or my CR3 unit, for example. Or the cool archer that came from lvl 1 to lvl 4 from barbarian attacks

In the small picture of the unit on the left side of the screen, there's its name written. Click the name and you'll be able to change it. Besides that, BUG gives you many unit naming options. You might like this thread and maybe post a question there if you want a different naming system to be the default for your games.

Easy....

I suppose you already know that the saved maps are actually WB files ...

So the shortest way is to use this utility on the WB file you got. You can do all of you need by editing the civs out after opening the WB file with a text editor, but it gives much more work, believe me :D

I've noticed that the AI will colonize random islands. I can't get Settlers on a boat, so do I send an Explorer to a village on the island or something?

Exactly. Only Galleys, Carracks ( Portuguese UU ), Galleons, East Indiaman ( Dutch UU ) and transports can carry land units that aren't recon units, missionaries, spies or corp execs.

Hi, I would like to know how to downgrade to BTS3.17 from 3.19. I am doing this because a lot of cool scenarios work for 3.17 and are an absolute bust for 3.19.

Gentleman, I have been consulting with other members of this community but to no avail I have found answers to my questions. Mainly, I am looking for a 40 civ map/mod that use to work at my old PC for the patch 3.13. This Mod/map included (99% sure) 39-40 civs including the custom civs maasai, aboriginal, australian (some dude that looked like Roosevelt), brazilian (Don Pedro), Argentinian (Peron), Tupi, Iroquis and this dude Mangas Coloradas in North America; the rest of the civs were non custom civs at their geographical correct location. (10 civs in America, 2 in Oceania, 6-7 in Africa) The map included as well the resources of Tobacco, potato, cofee, olives and cotton. This is all the info I have on this, please some help cause that map was sweet!!!!!

Almost forgot, the size was more or less that of your regular civ Earth map, it only had a lil more land (kinda hard to notice at first glance)

One last thing I remember Is that the map was well balanced on resources and it was quite bountiful.

Thank you for your help gentleman.

I tried that one but something is clear.. it is way too huge. I am quite surprised no one has played/seen it as I downloaded from this very same website.

Isn't there a record made of your downloads in your CivFanatics Account? If so, the name of the mod to which you are referring should be there.

Hey everyone! I was juste wondering what was the number of turns in every speed, all i know is that there are 500 in normal.

Also, suppose there are 1000 turns in epic, will everything, reaserche, production, be just simply halfed?

Thank you!

I love HOF mod because it can put a turn timer in the top right.

Epic is 660 turns.
Quick is 320 turns.

Marathon is a whopping 1200 turns.

A Best Marathon Time Victory is not a game so much as a "project."
