Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Oh, did we mention that Chieftain is bad?

Start on Deity level you wimp! After two or three million defeats you might scrape a win.

Yes, for Fernando who wants to start on Warlord.

Better yet. Play a game at the level above warlord, to get the game mechanics down, then head for the modded games section, download a few that look interesting and give them a try. ;)

I have heard a lot about scientific farms in these forums. What exactly are they and how do you make them and what makes them useful?

Maybe there is a thread already about them?

Ok, thanks. I have one question about the war academy article I checked out though about the specialists. How is the beaker count and the number of scientists needed calculated ? I am still a little confused on that.

Can anyone tell me how to get all 6 countries to show up as they used to (from previous Disk installed version of CIV III complete ). I have recently down loaded CIV III complete from 'Game' website and even bought the disk version from their Birmingham UK shop. But the same problem occurs. I am Ottomans V Spain Portugal Carthage Arabia and also Inca ( which never shows up on the victory status screen ) however the Inca does show up on the Wonders screen as it builds the Colossus 2230 BC at Cuzco. The Inca colour never shows up on the world map although this game does show Inca's capital Cuzco on the world map in Arabian colours.

I have also recently started games that show the Inca as a separate country ( in reddish pink) but I cannot say for sure how many countries would be eventually shown on the victory status screen as I do not complete these games. As I said I didn't have this problem from a previous disk version that I no longer have.

I would be grateful for any assistance. Mike

If you could post a save and/or screen shots it would be much more helpful. It doesn't sound like a bug I've ever heard of.

The "manage attachments" button at the bottom of the page where you write your posts lets you upload a save for us to look at. You can upload a screenshot as well if you like.

Not sure, if I understand the question, but here goes. A tech has a base cost that is multiplied by cost factors. The CF is determined by the level and the map size.

You end up with a known number of beakers for each tech in each game that you can find with a number of tools like CAII.

You can determine how many beakers you have the hard way or use CAII to find out the per turn count. It will tell how many turns to learn that tech, simple division.

If you see that it is 10 turns for the current tech at 20 bpt, you know that you need to add 22bpt +, so 23bpt will do it to drop it to 9 turns.

You can see that will mean 8 scientist for 24bpt or some combination. Like 7 for 21 additional bpt and rely on growth to make up the few missing beakers.

Hi everyone.

I don't understand why I cannot upgrade. I have barracks, and I have iron. See screenshot:

I am right-clicking on the warrior. Shouldn't there be an upgrade option in the right-click context menu? Also, when I am back on the world screen and I activate the warrior, shouldn't there be a button in the bottom of the screen for upgrading? The same place where the buttons like "fortify" are? Finally, I try to hit U on the keyboard...

So why can't I upgrade?? I saw that a trade route finally got established somehow between me and another civ that has iron, and I traded my precious furs for it just so I can get some Immortals finally.
