Ok, sweet :D

Now I have another question, will strategic resources still show up on the map if I edit the terrain?

For example, If I cut down jungle where coal or rubber was suppose to appear, will they still appear?
 
Yes. I have had Oil pop up a couple times in a grassland.
 
I've returned to the forum after several years away.
I play Civ3 only still. I have managed to achieve some basic editing and addition of resources, units, improvements etc using the many great downloads here and at on point 3 years ago I even managed to create a couple of my own wonders and techs so I am not a total novice.

Since I last looked here I am very happy to find somebody added a work-around to the 512 city limit which always annoyed me on huge maps. I have used it once so far and it seems good though my machine did crash out of the game after a while. I don't yet know if that's connected with the new feature or not, though it hasn't happened before.

What I'd still really like to see is a terraforming feature. In particular I'd like workers to be able to build canals connecting sea squares across thin necks of land and bridges connecting land squares across 1 or 2 sea ones. Does anybody know of such a download? I can't find anything after extensive searching. This could lead also to small wonders: Suez and Panama canals increasing commerce and maybe a couple of famous bridges too.

Any thoughts on this? Maybe too many people have moved on from civ3 to be bothered!

No, tht can't happen unless we get our hands on the soruce code, which just doesn't happen. You can change the graphics but not the mechanics. There's a lot of tinkering possible (half of it is serendipitous) but not to such an extent. Still, if you have any ideas to suggest…
 
You might find SMAC (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri) to your liking. It has extensive terraforming options.
 
Is there a point in the game when you can start deficit spending? For example go into debt and still have your improvements and units fiscally maintained.
 
Debt? No (except, IIRC, in Chieftain). You can have a negative income and not have any problems, though. But once you are at 0 Gold and still losing money, you start losing Improvements or Units.

This is what I was focused on. Is there any technology or anything that can make it so you won't lose units or improvements? Or at least some sort of delay, a couple turns or so, before you start losing the improv. and units?
 
Yes, you can simply spend less.
 
You can't raise taxes in Civ3, all you can do is get tax collectors which are normal citizens, logically they have to stop producing, so unless it's a corruption-ridden city it's pointless.

You forget the "give me the cash or my cavalery will kill you, Gandhi!"-tax, which can be raised.

isn't that the same Tax most governments impose. :ar15::mischief:

Because of the effects of multiplier buildings, you can.

Edit: Anyway, I spend money on science, happiness, and taxes. I don't think of my income as being my taxes - it isn't my government's income, it is my civilization's income. The game acts the same way, because taxmen don't give me money I can spend on science or happiness, they only put money in the tax fund.
