Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I am rediscovering Civ 3. My favorite game of all time, but I haven't played it in ages. I am spending the summer in a small town, my Mac version of Civ3 requires that I have the CD in the drive. None of the stores in town have the add-ons. I just discovered this site, would love to download and play some of the amazing files I've read about here. However, they nearly all require the add-ons (play the world and conquests) So my only solution is to purchase them online. I found a website I've never heard of (direct2drive.com) where I can purchase Civ3 Complete as a download. So here are my questions:

Will it work on my Mac despite not having the install CD/DVD (my Mac is quite new, and Civ3 is actually rather glitchy on it as is...)
Any other advice on where / how I can get a copy?

Thanks!

Ghetty, I bought the complete edition on cd/dvd at bol.com a year ago. Bol.com is a Dutch site, but perhaps they could send it to where ever you live. here 10 euro's

Good luck searching.

You can get it from a number of digitial sites like Steam, Impulse and Direct2drive. This will be a download. You probably can get it from Amazon and have it shipped. Just do a Google search for civilization III Complete.

Look on the direct2drive website and see if it says it works on a Mac. Otherwise, try asking in the separate Civ3 Mac forum here. If I remember correctly, the Mac version of Civ3 is different from the PC version and you probably need to download a different version of Civ3 if you want to use it with a Mac. Any patches will also have a different Mac version. The other thing about the Mac version is that the editor that comes with the game doesn't work so you'd have to download another one if you wanted to make your own mods.

How do i change or at least get an automatic signature at the bottom of my replies?

Click on the link in the upper portion of the page labeled "My Account". In that screen, there is a menu on the left-hand side. Click on "Edit Signature", and there is a box in which you can type whatever you want to show as a sig.

For some reason I don't have that option?? is it a merit thing where i have to reply to like 100 posts before getting it or?

According to the rules, you must have:

1. Five posts. ✔
2. Five days as a member. Because you registered two days ago, you'll have to wait for three more days.

Let's get this going again. Can you see replays of games you have finished via the Hall of Fame? I know you can in IV, and I thought I was able to do it once in III, but don't remember for sure. Confirm/cripple my hopes?

If you finish a game you can post the savegame prior to finishing and there you get the minimap replay, but I don't think a full replay is possible. That said, I haven't played the epic game much lately.

Crpsuites (sp?) has replay function. It is similar to the histo review and can be use on a saved game. It is in the utilities forum.

There is no editor that comes with the Mac version. Quintillus has developed an editor for the Mac which can be found on the Creation and Customization Forum board. It has some map editing capability, but is still under development. You do need a Mac-specific version of the game. The other option is if you are on an Intel Mac, use either Fusion or Parallels ( I use Parallels to run Windows and then play the Windows version of the game.

Wasn't sure where to ask this.

I recently gave the Rise of Rome conquest scenario a try as Carthage.

Once the city hit pop 6 it stopped growing. I had been mm the workers in the city so it was getting plenty of food. It looks like it is on the tile north of the river so I'm confused.

Is this a known bug? I noticed that pictures from some succession games on the forums show carthage well past size 6. Is there some building req (like hospital) that is necessary to go beyond pop 6 in this scenario?

Ok. So rivers don't help in this scenario? I was sure Carthage starts off right next to one.

Nnnnope. It ends just at the corner below Carthage apparently. I checked in the editor, this is what it looks like:

I don't see any likely city on your pic. Is this a known location and the fact that I don't know the mod means I can't guess where the city is on the map?

Because I deleted it. It's the tile just to the right (East) of the Iron hills. The conspicuously empty grassland.

Ok... thanks... I guess
