Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I always play at continents or archipelago, with 70% water. I use large map, and choose only 3-4 opponents. No matter if I begin with building wonders, improvements or start with producing a lot of soldiers. Sooner or later I have to attack the nearest opponent, becuase he is stealing all the land and resources. Sometimes of course they attack me first.

I alwaya have to attack very early in the game, before my opponent grow stronger, which he does very fast even att warlord level. When I built my army and sending them to attack, it shows that my opponent has almost an unlimited amount of soldiers, coming from "nowhere". I begin to wonder if there is a bug in my game (Civilization III Complete), that makes even the easy levels hard.

The only times I succe is when I attack at a very early stage, when my opponent only have 2 or 3 cities. If i wait longer I must spend the rest of the game (almost) defending and attacking, if i not make peace with them. It ends up with that my civ and the civ im at war with becomes the least developed civs, while 1 or 2 civs on the other continents is far ahead in technology and military size.
Large map, 3 or 4 bad guys, they get big real fast, start to lean on you and begin to crowd you out and won't make peace.

How about starting a new thread, attach a saved game file and ask for help? A seperate thread would make it easier for you to keep track of comments related to your game. In this thread they could easily get lost as others ask for help.

If you have a food bonus in one of your first two or even third town and set it up to crank out settlers, you should have no problem growing much faster than the AI. If you do that you will be able to out tech them by a mile.

They will not be giving you any trouble. You could also choose an expansion civ and pop out 3 or 4 scouts asap. Send them out and get lots of free techs, still cranking out settlers.

It could come to pass that one of the civs will get very large on another continent, but they should not be able to challenge you.

Quick way for beginners:
Assign to all civs/players all the techs for the ages you wish to skip.
Go to Scenario properties (Alt+Enter), then to the Players tab, then select the Free Tech(s) you want to give them.

Find the conquest.ini file in the main Conquests folder, make a backup copy and then open it in notepad, go to the bottom after scrollspeed and add a new line. Type "PlayIntro=0" and then save.

whoah, thanks! I hate intros like the plague.

It's probably a hidden file.

Try opening
C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\Conquests\Conquests.ini
directly.

I suspect the issue is that you have installed with adm, but run the game without adm. This means c3c cannot write into the program files. It will then write to one of the USER folders.

Do a search for con*.ini and it will show up. Else start looking in the USER folders, depending on win8 or win7 which folders you will find.

I see no saves folder, so that tells me you are not running in adm.

I need some help with Civilization 3 multiplayer. My friend and I can't connect to each other when we enter the host ip address.

Welcome to CFC!

When I enter my friends IP address it doesn't connect, also when I search for civ 3 multiplayer games nothing shows up. Could this be a firewall problem?
Also we are curious to see if the multiplayer still works even because gamespy shut down awhile back.

How do you start the game without the intro? I hear you can change the shortcut or something.
Hi Omni314. I dont know which version you're playing, but I play Conquests. Mine always starts with an into, but as soon as I do anything; hit something on the keyboard, click the mouse in the screen, even change the volume, the intro stops and opens the game. I've never had the full intro play, except (a) the first time I used Conquests, and (b) if I got up to get a cup of coffee when I started it. Normally I just click it and kill it.

I had the same experience. I hit enter at the Firaxis screen and that ends the play.
