Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

The problem is that I am not searching the seed number for the latest generated map. That would be easy.
I have started new games in the meanwhile and am searching the seed number for another save.

I have wondered how to do this many times, just never got round to asking :)

Doesn't civassist II have the seed number for any save it loads? That's what I recall. I have less of an idea, I think, that it will work with your operating system though.

Yes, I heard that. But I failed to use Civassist II.
As did I. I got this on install:

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I tried with CA II but there is nowhere a seed mentioned. Maybe try with MapStat instead? I only use CA II, so I dont know..

Of course, @Lanzelot is whom you meant to refer to LordofDread.
yep, seem to be somewhat blind today. Thanks! Corrected in post.

Also tried civ3sat.exe but this one doesn't seem to work using console with commands, neither with administrator rights.

Maybe civ3sat.exe needs to be set to use compatibility mode? I cannot test those out anymore because my computer with the old native Windows XP installation finally died a little over a month ago. It's like when the Fire Nation attacked.

You mean the "Play Last World" option (not the quick start option). Here indeed you can see the seed of the last world of an epic game you have started - but in my experiences only as long as you haven´t started a different epic game or a scenario.
Are you sure that starting a scenario also changes it? The above circumstance means that I cannot test this myself, not for some time.

Yes, I heard that. But I failed to use Civassist II.

Finally got it, here is your seed :)

Seed: 1834388131. Note I renamed your savegame to gurke, because after the 15th attempt even copy paste was too much work xD. I used the updated version of civ3sat.exe from here: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/civ3-show-and-tell.493582/page-10#post-15323986. Works with command console. Older version in the download section doesn't work.

Good thing is you now even have the world specifications to check manually. Only starting positions seems chosen differently? Maybe depends on amount of AI's...

:lol: :thumbsup:

Edit: I made a quick test and the seed of the last epic game was still there after I had started a scenario and made a save file of it.

Here is the link to Puppeteer´s tool that was mentioned by Quintillus:

If this works, you are my new best friend 😀 I really look forward to try. Thank you very much for the work.

Spreewald?

I thought so. I'm not sure about scenarios that don't come with a ready-made map and thus force the game to generate terrain, though.

Any time the game has to generate terrain for a new game using a rules-only .biq, (I'm 99.99% sure) it'll overwrite the previous map-seed.

You're welcome :) Could come in handy for myself too someday. I already checked for your starting location. It is there, though I had to move there first from another one.
