), I'm getting a similar message about locked files; this time the filename being "Civ3Conquests.exe". I'm afraid of messing up my files so I'm not too sure how to proceed from here. I'm tempted to just ignore it, but again, I don't know what the outcome will be. I know next to nothing about this sort of thing, unfortunately

Basically I think if you start a new game with identical settings (climate, AI civs, age...) and type in the seed, then you will get an identical map, but maybe with some resources and starting locations a bit different. Let's say you wanted to replay a game but had no 4000 BC save. If you knew the seed and settings, which you can extract from a later save, you could 'replay' a game.
I'm not sure if it ever got figured out. We might be waiting for the Academy article on world/map seeds.
