Can anybody help me? I can't figure out how to build an army with the military acamedy. I try [L], clicking on the acamedy icon, looking for options under military advisor. No luck. Using a leader is no problem, but the acamedy has me stumped. I've looked through the manual, this forum for answers, as well as the Civ site. I've even downloaded a patch, to no avail. I'm sure it's simple, but Im not getting it.

I'm using the gold edition. Celts.

I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you

The city in which you have built the Academy can build Armies like any other unit. It's in the production selection along with the rest of the units and buildings/wonders.

Like Serpico said, thr army is like a unit build option. Just produce it like any other item in city with academy.

However, you need 4 cities per army as 'support'. So if you own 7 cities, you can only have 1 army around. With 8 cities, it's 2 armies etc.
As long as you're not able to support another army, the army build option is missing in academy city's list. It'll show up again when you're able to support another army (gained cities or possibly disbanded/lost one army)

Hi Alan,

I do, but you need a PC to do it so I didn't reply earlier. You can use either my CRpViewer or ainwood's Alternative Replay Viewer. I believe you have access to an old low spec PC? If so then ainwood's would be the preference as mine needs a reasonable 3D graphics card.

Yes, I'm aware of the third party options, as you know ;) I was actually prompted to try to find out when another Mac user asked the question and I tried to find the in-game facility and it didn't seem to be there.

Does anyone out there change the game rules to reduce corruption when they play, or just deal with it? It's kinda crazy when your far-flung cities on another continent have like 95% corruption. Wanna build a temple? 600 years! Yikes!

Or do most people move their Palace around or what?

Is there any key-command to order an entire stack of workers to, say, clean pollution? Like Cmd-G will tell one worker to move to a specific location, while Cmd-J will move an entire stack. I was wondering if there was a Cmd-J-like command for worker tasks like road building, pollution cleaning, etc...???

NO.

However, Ctrl-P will tell ONE worker to clean up pollution this and subsequent turns, providing there's pollution to clean up. :)

I usually whip or buy a courthouse--sometimes attack a neighbor to try and get a leader to rush production of anti-corruption items like wonders and courthouses. Using Communism instead of Democracy helps too.

That's true in my case too. I was just surprised to see that the new cities I was capturing are basically useless except to add to your domination victory. If anything, they're probably costing you more than they are worth except for that.

They shouldn't cost you anything. If they do it's because you are keeping garrisons in place or leaving buildings up that cost upkeep. Move the garrison on to conquer more cities, and sell off the bulidlings for some gold. Then the city will deliver 1 gpt, and some tiles to contribute to your scoreline and domination total. It may even produce a worker or two if your game goes on long enough, and those can be joined to productive cities to accelerate their growth.

I find this is quite realistic. Ie, in World War 1, hundreds and hundreds of lives were lost just fighting for a wee bit of mud here and there.

True, but I don't care how corrupt or unwilling the captors are, they should be able to raise a temple in less than 300 years! But that would be assuming that a game is an accurate reflection of reality, which of course it is not. It's made to be fun, and it is!

Anyway, I'm done whining about corruption for now. On to more subjugation/annihilation of rival civilizations!

Is there a concept of "ownership" of rail and/or roads? Can any civ freely use any other civ's road/rail?

Any roads/rails in a civ's border can only be used by other civs if they have a ROP withy that civ.

Just wondering, what does the TOW in TOW Infranty stand for? Tank something-or-other?

Well ToE is Theory of Evolution (wonder) and FoW is Fog of War.

Maybe TOW is Theory of War? :crazyeye:

On a more serious note, I've been here a while and never heard it.
