With the latest expansion to Civ III, how many players, AI or human, can play in the same game? Can all 31 play? This has probably been asked before, but I'd appreciate anyone's help.

thanks

Yes, all 31 can play, but I'm pretty sure you have to create either a mod or user created map to do it. Of course I suppose technically a user created map gets saved as a mod, so I could have just said mod in the first place and saved some my fingers some precious typing energy, but it's all in a good cause right?

I'm too tired to remember the name of the character so I just cut this image out of the latest reference file. On my keyboard, it's the key left of the 1/! key in the top left. Hope this is it:

Is there a hotkey to restart a game (get a new map/city position) without going back through the start up screens? I seem to remember something like that existing, but it's been a while since I played. I just got Conquests and feel like I'm relearning everything. :/

If you click on 'quick start', the settings of the last game should be used and the settings screens are spared (you just get warped to starting position).

In C3C, I think you could even play the same map again (use "play last world" or so, enter a known seed respectively).

Howver, I recently noticed in PTW that if you had chosen certain rivals before, 'quick start' resets them to 'random'. The number of rivals and the choice/names of your own civ is consistent with the latest manually assigned set-up, though. I don't know how vanilla or C3C acts here, because I normally slot in random rival anyways.

If you want to find GOOD starting positions AUTOMATICALLY and/or have the computer save them for future use, click on the signature address below! :)

In my latest game, my Dutch neighbor's gotten his city to size 22 long before the discovery of even medicene- how'd he do that?

Are you SURE the Dutch have NOT discovered Medicine? ;)

I note that my manual (Civ3 vanilla for Mac) claims you can see a replay on retirement, like the one that runs during the victory parade. Does anyone know how to get to it? Just curious

Accidentally posted this question to the wrong thread. Gotta learn to aim that mouse! Anyway, here's my question:

Why do some AI attitudes toward you seem to plummet for no apparent reason? I speak to Persia and he's polite. Several turns later I go back and suddenly he's cautious. A few more turns and he's annoyed. I haven't done anything to explicitly upset him, as far as I can tell, so it must be some indirect chain of reactions. Any suggestions as to what it might be?

Here's Bamspeedy's definitive guide to AI Attitude that spells it all out.

Isn't the built-in hospital the new effect of shakespeare's theatre in C3C? Something like that.

Absolutely. Shakespeare's theater can only be built in city size 7+ and acts like a hospital, as well as making 8 unhappy citizens content. It's become a wonder really worth the build.

Hi all,
I'm new to Civ3 having bought this game (game of the yr edition) just a few months ago. I've never played the earlier Civ games. I am still learning the game (world standard map) at chieftain level.

I've noticed that if i attack no one or if no one attacks me, my world seems to be a rather peaceful one throughout the game. And a bit boring too. No one seems to be attacking each other. My foreign advisor does not appear to inform me of any wars occurring elsewhere.

My younger brother plays an earlier editon of Civ3 and he tells me that in his games, wars between civilizations breakout very often. His foreign advisor appears onscreen to inform him so.

Why is that, does anyone know? Has this been removed in my edition?

thanks and apologies for being a bit long winded..

Welcome jaitop!

I think nothing has been removed from your edition.:)

war/peace issue:
This differs pretty much from game to game. Some civs are more aggressive than others. Dependent on the participating rivals, you could *expect* a more peaceful game with harmless civs etc. A certain resource distribution can play a role or a civ runs out of expansion room and goes to war.
Sometimes, when you sign just one alliance vs another civ, it could happen that one of those civs bribe the remaining neutrals and there's your world war.

Note that the chieftain AI is really lame. They don't expand fast, research rate is no way near half-decent, they have very few units, cannot build fast etc - so they better make no war.
I recommend to give it a go on warlord; should be ok at least after reading some stuff here on CFC.:) Chieftain is evil and can severly damage the understanding of the game - I think it's just there to get used to the interface, unit movement etc w/o being wiped out by the AI in the middle of 'testing'.

The War Academy has some fine tips (note that *some* articles there could refer to older patch versions of the game, so you may watch for the date stated and eventually visit the related forum threads which may contain 'updates' or comments regarding this issue). You could also read other stuff in the Strategy Articles subforum.

For a start, look at this one:

You learn about fast and effective early expansion which is very vital.

Once you play on a higher level, either you or your rivals very likely will start a war with some point. Usually you'd buy some allies in and the whole thing takes off.

war information pop-up:
You would need embassies to get such information.
