How many turns is it difference, from when I declare war until I can start negotiating with the civ again?

Usually it takes at least 5. 6-8 turns is a reasonable estimate. IIRC the way the war is going has some influence as well.

Ah. I declared war on greece on monarch, took 2 cities in the first turn, then it was a huge stalemate for about ten turns, while I beat back his counterattack, and I still can't call for diplomacy

This is due to the situation. You probably do not have a large force inside the Greek territory threatening a city. It may also be that you have fallen victim to the Greeks getting lots of alliances against you (or you may simply be at war with lots of other nations or one really big nation). The AI assesses your situation (including, it seems, your war weariness) and then decides if there is anything that could get them to quit.

A good example is: An AI civ is half way around the world on a Huge map. One of its people meets one of yours and for some reason you end up in war. Very often, even after 30 turns of no fighting (or even seeing each other) the AI will still refuse to talk to you. This is because it has no other threat and does not view you as an imminent threat.

Try sending 6 to 8 units into his territory and then talking the next turn.

==Jesus was an Arab.==

I thought the Arab emigration that far west was 600 years after Jesus, with the rise of the Muslim empire?

Moderator Action: That would be something for the history forum, not the Quick Answers thread. Don't threadjack.

Yup, sorry.

Thank you.. yeah, all the civs are dead, except for Iroquois, America, myself (carthage) and Greece. I'm allied with Iroquois against America and Greece. America and Iroquois are on another continent. America has sent units at me, but Iroquois hasn't sent units at Greece.

I can't get the replay function to work after I have finished an epic game!!!

When I press play - nothing happens!

What am I doing wrong??

Should it be turned on before I start a game?

Nope. Sometimes it takes a bit before starting. How much time are you giving it before giving up?

You're not doing anything wrong, the feature is just dead slow.
It happens to me all the time. When I press Play, it takes at least 30-40 seconds for the replay to start.
And my computer isn't even that slow, it's a 1.66 GHz with 1 GB of RAM.

So next time be patient and don't close the replay screen too soon. The replay will start, eventually.

Yes.

No.

Note that, unlike floodplains, you can do something about marshland. Your workers can clear it.

Units fortified in jungle can die of disease though.
Seriously? Is that something new with [c3c]? I've never seen this, though I'm still mainly playing [ptw] 'cos I only really get time for GOTM

We are talking minutes here before I loose my patience - on a 2.4 ghz with 512 MB RAM - has map size and # of civs something to do with it?

I have just installed a CD r/w on my computer at work. I have a cable modem so downloads are very quick as opposed to the dial up I have at home.

I currently have Civ3 Gold Edition and Civ 3 Conquests all Vin.

My questions are as follows:

1.) I would like to get involved in succession games. What patches should I download so I can have the capability to be involved in the most games possible?
2.) I would like to try out the GToM - what patches and downloads would I need to do that?
3.) in your oppinion is there any other "Must have" mods or downloads to further enhance my game play?
4.) Is there a thread to read that has all of these answers in it so I don't have to bother you further?

Thank you in advance for your answers

@Misfit -

1) Generally, it's patched to the latest version of whatever. That would be 1.29 Vanilla, 1.27 PTW, and 1.22 C3C. I'm guessing that if it's different, they would say so in the thread.

2) Like the SGs, it's generally the latest patch. Some of the GOTMs have changed rules and units. If that happens, I believe that there is a d/l to install the new rules.

I have not taken part in any SGs or GOTMs yet, so I can't be sure, but this is how I understand it.

3) I'm rather partial to DyP myself. This is for VC3 and PTW. A new version is Rise and Rule for C3C, and it's still underdevelopment. But, as I understand, close to release. Check out the official thread here. And check for other scenarios/modpacks in the Creation and Customization subforum.

4)Yes, this thread. Don't be afraid to ask, that's what this thread is for.
