Double Your Pleasure. Did you check out Turner's link? It's a BIG mod, almost a completely different game!

They should be already included. You can check by looking at the main Civ3 page when it loads. It will say in the lower left hand corner what version you're playing.

Can anyone tell me if there is a resource that lists the number of turns required for a worker to perform any given type of job? (It would have to account for various terrain types, govts., industrious vs. non-industrious, foreign worker vs. home-grown worker, etc.)

Thanks

I don't know if anyone has actually sat down and wrote it out, but this information can be pulled from the editor.

Trying to find something now, but so far no luck.... maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

standard times given by the editor (Conquests):

mine 12
irrigate 8
fortress 16
road 6
RR 12
clear forest 18
plant forest 4
clear wetlands 16
clear damage 24
barricade 16

I think using a slave doubles time, replacement parts halves it, Democracy causes workers to work at 150%, Fascism (which is bad in real life!) 200%, and Anarchy 50%. If someone could post on the effect of terrain I would appreciate it.

Edit: Apparently those are slave rates, and using a worker of your own halves them.

I think you should divide those numbers by 2- this gives times for those tile improvements on plains/grassland; it takes twice as long for hills, and triple time for mountains. half-time for industrious civs. I think you're right about the rest though.

1. I look at the number of turns in the Civilopedia (Same as Editor, I guess) as "Slave Rates"
2. For "Normal Worker", divide by 2
3. For "Industrious Worker" divide by 3.

AND.....Always round up. :)

That makes sense (that the times given by editor are slave rates), those did look awfully slow.

What will the AI research next (Greece and Azteks)? Flight or Mass production?

With Mass production you are able to build Battleship, Carrier, and submarine.
With Flight you are able to build Airport, Bomber and Fighter.

I checked the link What will the AI research next?

according to alexman's thread, I would think it would be mass production b/c it gives 3 units and only has a base cost of 100. flight on the other hand costs 140 but only gives 2 units (which are worth sig. more than a city improvement).

Re: worker times
Thanks all. One thing, I thought it takes longer to mine hills and mountains than it does to mine grasslands or plains. Was this a mistaken belief on my part? Also, I thought that workers cleared jungle faster if you build a road first in the tile first -- or is this also incorrect?

 Re-read the posts, already answered my question about hills and mountains. Still wondering about roads in jungles though... Thanks

Different tasks take different amount of times depending on what kind of a tile you are doing them on.
Tasks on Mountains take the longest
THen hills
Then All the other normal stuff (Grassland, plains, desert etc)

I think building a road on a mountain would take the same amount of time as building one on jungle btw, and building a road on forest takes as long as building a road on a hill.
Also, I thought that workers cleared jungle faster if you build a road first in the tile first -- or is this also incorrect?

There is no truth in that :)

No, but it's often wise to send a worker to each mountain or jungle to build a road long before you expect to actually clear or mine it (or clear pollution). That way you're only wasting one worker turn, because every other worker moving onto that square will be able to use the road.

I guess you are right. I chose to research Mass production but neither civ researched flight for 12-16 turns so I had to research it myself in the end. I researched a new tech every 4 turn.

YES it is incorrect, BUT the converse IS true! :)
If you clear the Jungle First, then it's quicker to build the Road! ;)

However, a4phantom's post, 2 back, is spot-on for most situations! :)
(Unless, for example, the SAME worker is going to clear the Jungle AND build the road.)

DEPENDS on the type of water tile!:

Coast = YES
Sea = NO (BUT, Happy/Content/Specialist people on Sea tiles within your city's 21-tile "Perimeter" [AND Boundary] DO count towards score!)
Ocean = NO (It's IMPOSSIBLE, for practical purposes, to get ANY Ocean tiles within your Boundaries!) :)
