One other thing - what do the different barbarians do? (sedentart, roaming, etc..)
As the level of barbarian activity is raised, the number of barb camps (and goody huts) goes up. Goody huts are the reason you don't want to play an expansionist civ with barbarians disabled.

Catapults, and other wheeled units can not move onto Mountains, Jungle etc; that is, unless there is a road in place on that square.
My question is: Can Catapults go onto mountains in enemy territory, which are roaded? (take into account they'd be sitting on a road before moving, so the squares would be connected)
This is kinda important for an MP game I have at the moment, so only give me sure answer(s) ;)
Thanks in advance :)

Yes, they can. BUT you can't move them from a ship onto a square they won't go on to, even if it is roaded/railed (had this in a game recently myself... annoying!)

What is the file where you can turn off the introdcutory movie and change the video resolution, among other useful things? I remember that it is a text file, but I do not remember the name, and after starting my computer over from scratch, I just do not seem to be able to place it. Thanks for the help in advance.

I have a problem. I am at warlord and right now so I can build the Pyramids, Sun Tzu's, the Internet, and Smiths TC. But when I go into harder dificulties, I wont be able to get some (or any) of these wonders. So graneries, barracks, science labs, wont be free and in every city and harbors, airports, marketplaces, and banks wont be free either. I know you great players out there will just look at this and laugh, but:

1. Do I build graneries in every city, even those who wont grow beyond 6?

2. Should I build barracks in every city, or should I build it in every other city, etc.

3. Marketplaces and banks: which cities should I put them it (like size 7 and up cities, etc.)?

4. Should every costal city have harbor and/or commercial docks and what cities do I build airports in?

5. Should every city have all three science improments: libraries, universities, and sci labs, or should certain cities not have unis and sci labs (i allways have libraries in all of my cities)?

Also: in every city sized 6 that has excess food but is not near a river or lake, should i build an aqueduct?

Finally: City Spacing: Each of my cities radius' are touching at least the square next to another city, is that too close?

It is alot to ask, but I'm soon going to go to higher levels (also, if this has aleady been asked, im sorry).

1) No. On a standard sized map, I usually only build them in 1 - 3 cities.

2) Again, no. But I build more Barracks than I do granaries, probably around double the amount.

3) Marketplaces:- In any city that has happiness issues.
Banks:- In any city that is producing a fair amount of Gold, i'd say 10 or above.

4) I never really build any of those improvements, so I can't really answer that question (I don't get that far in the game)

5) I rarely build any science improvements, but that's just me. I'm a warmongerer :king:

Hope that helps, and it doesn't matter if it has been asked already. That's the whole idea behind this thread :)

@Dreadnought: My first piece of advice for you is to read Ision's article on Wonder Addiction.

Granaries are not quite useless in cities that won't grow past size 6. Granaries are most useful in the cities that will be losing population from making settlers. Granaries are essential in "Settler Factories". In the early game, build a Granary in settler factory towns...
2. Should I build barracks in every city, or should I build it in every other city, etc.
Nope. Your settler factory doesn't need a barracks. Any towns you set up as "worker pumps" don't need a barracks. Try this: when you are settling your first few cities, pick a site with nice shield potential... bonus grassland and such. Build a barracks there, and no other improvements. Build nothing but units there.

On a related note, bombard units do not have "veteran" status. so a town that produces 3 or 6 shields per turn can make catapults and still contribute to your mililtary....
3. Marketplaces and banks: which cities should I put them it (like size 7 and up cities, etc.)?
Marketplaces are the most under-rated improvement in the game. Build markets in any city capable of growing past size 6. Scrap temple/cathedral builds, and build marketplaces. With 3-4 luxuries hooked up, markets are more powerful happiness producers thant Temple/Cathedral, and the commerce is powerful. Build Banks in cities that are ~70% productive.
4. Should every costal city have harbor and/or commercial docks and what cities do I build airports in?
Buld airports in cities that will build air combat units. Build commercial docks like banks; in productive cities. Build harbors in cities that buld naval units, or need food from the sea. "Fishing villages" on the edge of tundra can (eventually) make some decent gold...
5. Should every city have all three science improments: libraries, universities, and sci labs, or should certain cities not have unis and sci labs (i allways have libraries in all of my cities)?
After scrapping all your temple and Cathedral builds, build libraries for culture. Build Universities only in your more productive cities (and I mean CITIES, not size 6 towns).
Also: in every city sized 6 that has excess food but is not near a river or lake, should i build an aqueduct?
YES.
Finally: City Spacing: Each of my cities radius' are touching at least the square next to another city, is that too close?
Probably not close enough. You'd be surprised how powerful tight builds can be. The key is to use as many tiles as you can. If your cities are all spread out, many tile can't be used by citizens until Sanitation and Hospitals.
if this has aleady been asked, im sorry).
Now there you broke a rule. This is a thread for asking questions, so you're not allowed to apologize for asking questions in a question-asking thread. You now owe us all an apology for apologizing. (I'm kidding :p )

Welcome to CivFanatics!

Edit: I noticed your postcout was up there a bit...so it's a bit late to 'welcome' you... but the thumbsup still counts.

2 cents worth from another Warmonger(er):

If you're moving up level(s) try Tiny Maps and go for a Conquest Victory in the shortest timeframe possible.........See Hall Of Fame (HOF) section for good examples.
You need a few producing cities.......and to get them you need Settlers.....and to get them build a "Settler Factory" city as described above.

Build a few Barracks in shield-producing cities so that all your military units are veterans. Don't bother with Marketplaces/Banks/Libraries/Harbors/Aqueducts/Docks/Airports. If you're playing Vanilla Civ or PTW, you can get Great Leaders from combat to build Pyramids/Sun Tsu etc. Go for the easy win first, then either move up a level or play a longer/deeper game. (i.e. Bigger Map/Milk Run/Domination Win etc.)

Up to say Level 5/6 on a Tiny Map, you can win by Conquest without needing a unit any more powerful than a Horseman......so you don't need to leave the Ancient Age.

This plan keeps it simple........now if you want to Maximize your score (viz. Milk the Game) it gets more complex (incorporating those City Improvements you mentioned).........See HOF scores on Huge Maps........All those games are Milked! :)

^ Yeah and build them in big industrialized cities connected to the frontline with railroads.

BTW, this was the ONLY part of your Post that made me smile! :)

(The rest of your Post was a bunch of Very Good Questions..........Questions that players ask themselves frequently!)

So, I've advanced into German territory, taking many of their cities :) However, their civ is on an island fairly distant from mine. My corruption in this new land is RIDICULOS !!! I'd like to build a forbidden palace there but it's gonna take 160+ turns?? I'm playing Civ3 on cheiftan level and I'm the Perisans (man I loved the immortals !!!!)

Anyway, question is, how do I reduce corruption in these far off lands? I'm about 10turns away from democracy, will that help at all? Right now I'm a republic.

Cheers,
Mech

hmm, no leaders, I have a whack of elite knights, but none of them seem willing to take great leader status :( woe is me

Democracy does have lower corruption than republic, but it is not significant enough to go into anarchy and have higher war weariness. In particular, the new lands will still be very corrupt.

It may be worth considering building your forbidden palace in your main core and jumping your palace to the new island if you get a leader.

Pick a big city a try to get a "We love the king" going by turning as many people to entertainers as you can without starving anyone, sometimes you can turn a 1-shield-per-turn city into a 2-shield-per-turn city this way. Also use engineer specialist units if you have the Tech for it.

I got a GL, built the forbidden palace, squashed the german infection of my continent, and then switched to Democracy  Thanks for all the tips on here to get that too happen !!!

I now just met the other civs all crammed on a little island. I'm way ahead so I'm going to be nice until I get big mo-fo tanks and such

hi I was wondering if air bombard units like bombers work the same as artillery? I know they can destroy improvements and population, but can they also injure units? this is important in my game because i am debating whether or not to have carriers and bombers in my navy.
