Hi,

Just finished a very fun v129 game, and then tried playing with the latest v130, but I noticed the quick combat feature was activated by default.

Although other posters have said they like quick combat, I really prefer the normal combat animations, even though they slow down the game a little. It simply feels more fun seeing & hearing the combat animations, plus it also helps alert me to those instances where an enemy archer outside of my site range is firing on my units.

I was fortunately able to go into the options.sql file and disable quick combat, but others might not be as skillful. If possible, for the next version, could you make normal combat animations the default setting?

I disagree. Default should be quick combat. As Thal has previously stated, some people are going to be inconvenienced regardless of the choice, but it is not hard to figure out how to make the switch. And I have to think the vast majority of players use quick combat as the slow down in the game is beyond considerable in the mid to late game.

Anyone else not seeing full combat animations with certain units even after changing the ini file? Submarines don't have any combat animations.

As kc_bandit pointed out there's no ideal solution. Either way it's a quick toggle, and I added a comment in that file to help people in the future. In addition to avoiding the bugs with vanilla quick combat, it also lets us do something we cannot do in vanilla: change it mid-game! I typically play with combat animations in the early game, then disable them in late game. :)

Thal, thanks for the explanation.

I guess I'm just accustomed to having the combat animations turned on, as I've always played Civ-5 that way. Your idea of having the combat animations turned on for the early game, and then turning them off for the late game sounds pretty intriguing, though, so I may try that in my next game.

By the way, since I have no personal experience yet in playing a Civ-5 game with the combat animations turned off, I'd like to ask: How much would this speed up my end of turn processing during the late game period?

This is just a guess, but depending on how many allied city states you have (since their combat animations are shown), my experience has been almost 5:1 in terms of time it takes between turns.

It does speed up between-turn processing a lot. A huge amount of combat in a split second can sometimes be overwhelming, which is why I color-coded the damage ticker in the center screen, to make it easier to follow what's going on.

Hi

I want to try the mod but I really enjoy combat animations. It there any way to turn it on?

PS - I think I managed to turn it on...
