Can anyone think of any reason at all? File structure? folder structure? any reason why unit sounds in a mod might not want to work, references in other parts of the Civinfo.xml file?

Where do I need to look to find a way to increase the number of turns in a game? I am sure I found it once upon a time...but now it is hiding somewhere and I cannot remember where!!
I guess you changed the CivilizationSelectionSound and CivilizationActionSound entries in there?
mmhh...do you not get any sound, or just the normal sound?
In case of the former, you should try to make it louder.
Oh...then it might be that someting in the sound defines is totally borked. Had that myself too, but never figured out what caused it.
Since that time I just rename my sound files accordingly and place them in the right folders, so that these are loaded instead of the default files.

mmhh...could be the sound files themselves. Some types don't work.
Try to replace some changed sounds with normal BtS sounds. If you then hear something, then it's a problem with the mp3s.
