Quick Questions and Answers

It depends on the map size as well. The exact rule I don't know, but if the map is smaller there is more leniency about how many tiles must be inbetween towns when they're on seperate land masses.

Quick question about downloading a mod from the steam workshop. I am trying to download the Krakatoa Fix, and am not sure how. I don't even download mods, so I'm not sure where to start. I don't see a download button, but just a subscribe one. I've subscribed to the Krakatoa fix, but that doesn't enable it in-game. Am I missing a painfully obvious step here?

Hello Folks,

I play Earth with maxed out City States (42) and I think it is 14 Civs. The game tells me in the fine print that the level of City States are not supported.

The only area where I see the "not supported" is the Diplolomatic screen where I only see a fraction of the City States shown; is that the only area that is "not supported"?

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Marc

Somewhere along the way I came across a Polynesian Janissary and got really confused; a little later I killed a Dutch Samurai. Was there some traits/bonus that I am not aware of? Neither the Ottomans nor Japan were in this particular game. thanks.

Edit: to clarify, I have NO mods installed.

hey, quick question.

how can I use airplane units? they do nothing except flying one city to another.

C'mon, those animations are fun to watch.

You mean you actually want to be able to do useful stuff with airplanes, like bomb cities, strafe ground units and have dogfights? <Sigh> There's no satisfying some people....

Well, you can do all of that, if you really want to. When you select an airplane in city X, you get options that are analogous to those for ranged units (bombers and fighters are really just long distance ranged units). One option is the familiar ranged attack button. When you enable that button you can see the airplane's attack range (red outline on the map--shorter distance than their one-way flight range, since they have to get back to home base after attacking) and any eligible targets (cities and units) will be circled in red. Attack away.

Your aircraft will absorb damage (lots of damage if there are enemy fighters, SAMs or destroyers about) and earn XP with each attack, and can heal in its home city. With promotions you can eventually get to logistics (2 attacks per turn), air heal (the airplane equivalent of March for land units) and extra range.

Because the enemy may have fighters and SAMs, you will want to do air sweeps (another button option) to soak up whatever attacks those units can make before sending in your bombers. Similarly, on defense, you can set your fighters to intercept incoming aircraft.

Play around with the options. Pretty easy to get used to.

is there any way to turn off this christmas theme? these colors actually hurt my eyes and i spend a couple hours here most days.

Hello, I'm new to Civ so I hope I'm not asking something stupid...

At the beginning of the game the system always auto selects my units needing order so it's easy to command all of them. Later on, when I have many units, I often see the "next turn" button flashing before I can order all my units (sometimes it flashes before I even command a single unity). That leads to me having to scroll the map searching for all my units before I can finally press "next turn" and that's really annoying. I end up spending the majority of my turn searching for units instead of commanding them.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks in advance.
Had this happen to me, or seem to happen to me today. Will watch it a bit more and see if I have missed something, maybe some units part way through moving or some such.

Next question - all of my basic early game units seem to have gone from having 2 movement points to having 3 - what might have triggered the increase?

Are you in the midst of a Golden Age with Persia?

Are you in the midst of a Golden Age with Persia?

Umm - yes. It's funny - when I finally managed to drag myself off to bed the last thought I had was Golden Age and maybe Persia had this movement bonus - was going to check it up first thing this morning ;)

Thanks for that - so many factors for new players to mull over - loving it.

I am currently unable to garrison in my capital city - it gives me the tooltip about being unable to garrison something where it already has one - trouble is the place is not garrisoned which is confirmed when I look at the unit list.

Any ideas?
