Quick Questions and Answers

Hi all, I have a few newbie questions of my own!

1. Is there a combat log, as in Civ4? The combat info displayed on the screen is kind of sparse.

2. Is there a page that lists unit kill statistics (again, as in Civ4)? I always found that fun...

3. When I hover my mouse over an enemy unit (or my unit, for that matter), I don't get a tooltip-box saying something like "Chinese Warrior, 8/10 HP" as I did in Civ4. Am I missing something? It seems odd that I can't check how many turns are left on my worker actions just by mousing over my worker...

Thanks for any help. :)

No to questions 1&2 unfortunately. For 3, there are those sorts of tooltips but the default delay before tooltips appear is pretty long; it can be adjusted in the one of the options screens.

You don't have to connect to them, unless you get the "build road" quest. I never got that quest from a CS on another continent.

I got it once, in which case you connect the same way you do any of your cities. You need a city on that continent, with a harbor, a road to the CS, and a linking harbor on your capitol's continent.

In terms of resources from allies, there is no need for a link to the CS, you get them regardless of geography, or even enemy territory.

1. There is a general event log, which I believe records the outcomes of combats, though in little detail.

2. No (as mentioned)

3. You have to hover your cursor over the selected unit's HP bar, at which point it should show you 8/10, etc. You'll get similar feedback on wounded enemy units. As for turns to heal, you have to know the heal rate and calculate it yourself (fortify until healed doesn't display this). And yes, workers turns to completion are only visible when the worker is selected. What's more, both "complete next turn" and "complete this turn" show as 1 turn remaining, even when the worker hasn't done his build move for the turn yet.

Might have been asked already, but is there anyway I can raze a city after I conquered and then annexed?

How do you "work" a natural wonder.

I recently bought the tile with Cerro De Potosi there but I'm not seeing the +10 gold...

Click on the "manage citizens" tab in the city screen in the city next to the wonder. There you can select which tiles you want worked.

Can you see who has a defence pact with who somewhere. It doesn't show up in the global politics section.

(1) Any general rule to distance between cities?
(2) Do resources need to be linked by roadways?
(3) Rivers to not create trade routes between cities, it appears, but per Q2, will they access resources?

1) this is complex but ingeneral between 2 an 4 seems the best IMO

2) No resourses don't need road to link them

3)Don't creat trade routes or link rsesourses (see point 2)

Well, this ain't so quick, it seems. ;)

Supprisingly not, but I will try:

(1) Well, the prevaling wisdom is to pack in as many cities as possible, ignoring the terrain. After reading a SG with this strategy I cannot argue, but some people like having more space to give a better feeling to the game.

(2) No.

(3) As ther is no such think as linking resources this has no real meaning.

HTH.

@silversheep

Land based units can now be their own naval transprt units if you tech Compass (?) simply by moving them on to a body f water.

How do I load units on a ship? Which ships can transport units?

Thanks in advance.

Actually, it's Optics, but you had the right idea. Another important thing to note is that for units to actually gain the Embarkation promotion when you tech Optics, they have to be on a friendly tile (either within a Friendly/Allied CS or your own borders). Don't make the mistake of researching it and then sending your units off towards the coast thinking "Oh the timing is great, they'll be able to embark right as they reach the water!" I've done that; it's annoying.

Each Iron mine provides a cerain amount of Iron (2, 4 or 6 IIRC). You can only build this many Iron requiring units. I suspect you have reached that maximum.

Does the unit's existance use the iron? Or the building of it??

I'm building 2 longswords and a caravel...

The Iron mine has a 6 when I hover over it... I have several longswords and pikemen, etc...

This does not make a lot of sense.
