Quick Questions and Answers

What is the best modern/future era unit for amphibous attacks?

I am doing a lot of island hopping in the current map.
There are no bonuses that any units recieve for Amphibious assaults anymore. So, GDR would be best because of the strength that it offers. :) I'd like to see this changed in an expansion by the addition of a marine unit.

What is a GDR?

At the moment I'm attacking with air raids, then naval bombardments and finally tanks attacks.

edit: Giant Death Robot I presume.

Mech infantry is good for whatever ails you. Promote with amphibious if you keep having troubles.
For cost efficiency, this is definitely true. No resources needed and several times cheaper than a GDR. But imagine a GDR with the seige and amphibious promotions.

Hello people! I'm looking for an exactly formula of combat result. I mean, how both of combat strength parameters (attacker and defender) affect on decreasing of Hit Points quantity.
I've searched it on the forum, but unsuccessfully.

1) In a city you have annexed, do newborn citizens (born after annexation) have unhappiness of 1.34 or 1? does the city ever become part of your civ or always considered occupied?

2) If you have 8 units of coal and are consuming 8 units of coal by your factories, what happens if you lose 2 units of coal and now have 6?

3) if you are already using your maximum available coal, can you build new buildings that use coal?

You should ask in the modding section. They would know.

1. Any new citizens born have the higher unhappiness level. Once you build a courthouse in an annexed city it functions in all ways (other than paying the gold maintenance on the courthouse and having the option to raze the city) as any of the cities you founded.

2. There is no negative to losing coal, with respect to your factories. If you have 8 coal, and are using 6 for factories and 2 for ironclads, your ironclads would suffer combat penalties if you lost one of your coal resources.

3. No.

Note that 2 and 3 apply to aluminum and uranium as well. Useful to know if you can manage to hit a foe's uranium mine(s) while facing off against his GDR's.

Great. Thanks. :)

Unfortunately my questions aren't gonna stop there. :undecide:

1. Is the game limited to any maximum number of turns? I know there is different speeds. But if there is a limit then it exists for all.

2. Does Civ 5 also always end at the year 2050? or is it open ended?

Yes and no. If you have all the victory conditions enabled, then the game "ends" in 2050, regardless of game speed. Game speed determines how many turns it takes to get from 4000 BC to 2050 AD. If you disable the "time" victory condition there is no longer a fixed end date. Plus, you can always keep playing "just one more turn..." after you've won (or lost) in 2050, though score is no longer tracked and I'm pretty sure you can no longer "win" any other way.

Nope, you can't win in any other way after 2050 unless you turn off the time victory setting.

Is there any way to find strategic resources on the map?

Is there a way to see what items are using your strategic resource?

Hi,

I'm a bit new to Civ5 and I have a problem. I have downloaded a map called ''Europe Landmass'' (I think) on which there is a map of Europe I want to use for a mod. The problem is that I don't understand how to launch it as a mod. ie : I want Civ5 to start the game with only the civs and with their starting location defined on the map.

Thank you for your time

Does it involve this problem? or did you get that far and the mod din't work? In that case, you should check the Civ5 C&C Forum.

Is there any way to find strategic resources on the map?

In the current map that you are wanting to find where the resources are, go to save, and save the "map" not the your game, just the "map" and give it a distinct name you will remember. Then start a new game, and when selecting what type of map you want you will see that map listed. Select it, then make the start era the "Future" era. Now start the new game. Now you will see the entire map and it will be entirely revealed, showing all the resources and everything. You can then save this "game" as a template in case you want to come back to it and view it again if you forget where things are. What I do is I also take screenshots of all the regions I want to remember so I wont have to bother with loading the map again (it takes a good while every time). Screenshots are extremely easy to just view when needed.

If a city with a National Wonder falls into the hands of the enemy, does it get destroyed? Also, as soon as you lose the city and the National Wonder, does it become available to be rebuilt again?

Never had it come up in a game, but from what I understand of the XML tags on national wonders, yes on both counts.

Is there a list of who's built what wonders, and where, anywhere in any of the advisor screens of the game? In my current game, I *KNOW* that Ramses II built the Forbidden Palace, and I wants, but I've got him down to 2 cities, and don't know which of the two that are left it's in. Would rather not have to take both and get the diplo hit for exterminating, so any advice that could save his life before I get back to killing on him tonight would be much appreciated (by him!).

Don't think there's anywhere that tells you what city has what wonder, but the third tab in the diplomacy overview tells which leader has which wonder, at least.
