Quick Questions / Quick Answers

Sometimes, I purchase a tile not because I want its resources/yields, but because I see units of another civilization (almost always, settlers) trying to reach certain part of the map, and if I buy that tile, they won't be able to get there. Is the AI also able to do that?

A little while ago I was trying to reach a city state far from my territory with four emissaries going together. Everything was going fine, I knew the path to get there easily. And, in the last step, bam! The tile I needed free to get to the city state was now Siam's property. Damn, I was so close. Now they have to take a huge detour to reach that city state. The next turn, I was going to cross Genghis' lands with my scout, and then... bam! Another tile that is not free anymore, and another detour.

Am I just having bad luck? Or is the AI mocking me?

I think it's just bad luck. I've been in many, many positions where I knew that the AI could cut off my units with a tile purchase but they virtually never do it. To have the AI do it twice in a row like that was probably just a fluke.

If you didn't found, but conquered multiple holy cities what happens? Are you just stuck as founder of the first holy city you take like you are when you found one yourself? Does it switch to the one you have the majority of in your cities? Etc

Enhanced religions have the priority on non-enhanced ones.
(I think reformed religions have the priority on enhanced ones, but not sure)
If there is still a tie, it is the religion with the most cities converted in your empire.
If there is still a tie, you keep the current one.

Did you found a religion?
Yes -> This is your religion, you can't change.
No -> Did you conquered an holy city?
Yes -> Your "primary religion" is one of the religion you have the holy city (if you have multiple, there are some rules). You have the bonuses as if you were the founder.
No -> You have the bonuses of your majority religion, except for the founder bonuses.

Not sure of what happens if you found but loose your holy city, but I think you keep the religion.

1) Note that if there is still "free slots" (i.e you play with less than 63 Civ+CS), cities that revolt either go back to their original owner, either become a free city (a new City State appear). If that's not the case in your games, you are either in an old version of VP, either you encounter a bug. To my knowledge, this cannot be disabled since it is a vanilla feature (just debuged by VP), but I can be wrong.
I downloaded the latest Automatic Installer (May 20th). I just started a new game and a faraway city joined me again (not a free city state). I'm not sure if I was doing anything wrong during the installation process: clear civ5 cache folder, run VP Automatic installer, choose the full VP version for 43 civs (I play with YAEMP 43 civs map), then ingame tick all necessary mods, custom game, start. Can you give me some reccommendations?

Do you play with 20 CS from the start?

If no, this is a bug you can report on GitHub
If yes, it probably mean that I was wrong and that free city states only appear if there is a free slot for city states (so less than 20 CS in 43 Civ version)

Yeah that's correct, you can't have free city-states with 43-Civ DLL without restricting the max number of city-states.

Meaning that when a city revolt: it may either join a city-state(not possible), join someone else, or join back its owner if possible.

Yeah, I played with 20 CSs and 32 civs. I didn't know that the limit number of CSs is 20. Thank you

How does the AI always get ahead in culture in the early game? I can't keep up nevertheless I try everything. Is there a hidden bonus I should know about?

If you play at low difficulty, the answer is "no hidden bonus".
If you play at mid-high difficulty, the answer is:
+ Production discount on every building (including culture building)
+ Instant yields of everything (including culture) everytime the AI enter a new era, has a great people, found a city, ...
(Culture is the yield they receive the less of, but they still have some)
+ Those two bonuses increase with era, so the AI has more and more bonuses when the game advance.

Note that contrary to what it seems, the bonus to the AI are significantly lower than the vanilla bonuses to the AI (except in late game). But the AI is no longer stupid on its building order, so he make a very efficient use of the production discount.

Thank you very much.
I plaid Vanilla on higher difficulties a long time ago but hated it, to run behind the KI in the early game, so I apreciate the mechanics of VP very much.
As I have started to play VP I have choosen king, but now I try to master the game on prince. Are there any discounts/bonuses on prince already? Is there a Thread where I can read about this?

Some significant in Prince, but not that much. (Information era building cost is is ~55% for the AI, but almost no bonuses at the start)

Keeping up in culture:
1. Policies. Tradition gives you an early artist slot, and later a writer and a musician. Plus extra culture on baths (settle on fresh water). Progress has a hard time, focusing on science and getting your buildings built is the only way to earn a few extra culture. Authority gets culture on killings, sooo...
2. Luxuries. Read civilopedia description on your luxuries, some of them will give culture after being improve, so you should prioritize that. If not for luxuries, you'll have to wait for villages to get some culture from terrain.
3. Religion. Pantheons that give culture are common. Religious follower beliefs can be used for extra culture if you are short of.
4. Trade routes. Send your trade routes towards allied city states or cities from a civ that is more cultured than you.
5. City states. Watch up CS quests, some may reward with culture. Also, try to befriend cultural city states for some extra yields.
6. Great works. Even if it's tempting to expend GWAM people in their special abilities, a few great works give both culture and tourism and may be used for theming bonuses in some wonders and culture buildings.

This covers the early game.

I played a tradition game and won a tourism victory, but no win screen came? i was 7/7 influential with all civs. Im using the latest 5/20 version. Anyone know why? can provide the save if needed

Did you build the Citizen Earth Protocol wonder?

You need:
1) Be influential with all civ.
2) Have an ideology
3) Be content with that ideology
4) Build the Citizen Earth Protocol wonder

How about Archipelago? Or Tiny Islands?
I’ve tried both! The scattered nature’s of the archipelago means you need sailing immediately to do anything, and the tiny island don’t leave room to expand a second or third city on the same plot of land.
I remember there being a certain map script that generated continents based on a chosen number.. is that not a thing anymore? For instance 6 civs with 6 continents, scaled of course for 2-3 hexes of water inbetweeen at least. Seems like a no brainer for epic continental warfare

I am trying to do this CS quest: "Send an archaeologist to a site near this city state". To my notice, I have to excavate the artifact to complete the quest but another AI already excavated it and created a landmark. How do I complete the quest?

Thanks!

Are you sure that you are going to the right site (with EUI, clicking on the quest symbol should center the camera there)? The quest should disappear when the site is already excavated. If the AI just finished excavating, wait a turn, then it should be gone with a notification "Site excavated by somebody else".
