Quick Questions / Quick Answers

1. Is there a cap on the number of great works that can be created? I can't make a great work of music and I have available slots. I'm playing a Huge game with 22 civ. (I'm thinking, Yes. There is only a set number each era right?)

2. When does the military cap block you from creating more units? I've only noticed that it starts to lower your growth and production across the empire, I didn't realize there's actually a point when you can't build more units. I'd just like to understand when it actually blocks you. Right now I'm 50/68 and blocked from creating more.

In 'Community Patch -how to install' there is the July 17th (4.7.17) version; since 2019/07 some beta updates have been issued; why none of that beta's have replaced the July 17th (4.7.17)? Does that mean that the betas are not yet reliable? Do you advise to play the 4.7.17 yet?

My game keeps crashing. How do I know if that is due to a bug, or to too limited specs on my computer?

Any consistency with the crashes? If you reload the autosave 1 turn before the crash, does it crash again? Using any other mods?

Yes, reloading the autosave keeps giving the same crash. I use the full mod pack + 3rd/4th component.

How does passive scaling on Instant Yields from Great People work?

What I mean by passive scaling is increase in the yields that is not for example because of the number of founded academies, themed great works etc. You will get it even if use every single great person for instant yields. I am especially interested in Writers, Scientists, and Artists.

I know that back in Brave New World it used to be that for example, a Great Scientist gives you the last 8 turns of science.
Is it the same in VP - based on your last 8 turns of appropriate yields?
Do your population and the current era come into play?

Pretty sure you're on the right track with this. Its "based" on the last X number of turns. Then a formula happens. THAT I dont know lol. For Writers it would be how much culture you've produced. And for Artists it should be how much Golden Age points you've been producing. Musicians should be based on tourism. I do not believe population or era make a difference

I think a mod conflict or a bad install seem more likely then. 3/4 UC consumes extra memory, but I think it would let you play a couple of more turns after reloading.

I'd try playing with just bare VP (by mod pack you mean the multiplayer modpack you manually put into the DLC folder? If yes, delete it and then install the latest beta using the official autoinstaller).

What are your PC specs, btw?

You can also post your logs and crash minidump (WHoward has a post somewhere with instructions how to enable logging) on GitHub.

I am confused about the above as well, could someone please comment?

I think scientist bulbs are based on your last X turns of science output plus an increase of X% (I think 10%?) for every academy you have.

I believe artist golden age points are also boosted by number of themes you have. I'm pretty sure you can mouse over the bulb icon for each great person to see a description of the formula.

Yes- you can run out of great works to make at which point your only option is to bulb. It had never happened to me until a recent game as Japan followed by a recent game as Brazil. The fact that it's been happening more frequently makes me wonder if something got changed or there's a bug (I've made a report).

City with walls + comp bow in it can one shot (city strike + comp bow) anything? See below, I've got comp bows + spearmen + Songhai UU and losing one unit per turn seems unavoidable? Any/all advice welcome.

This is right before I declare and what I've save scummed back to. I took the below left city from Ethiopia recently so I guess I'll wait for my happiness to rebound and go bother Germany...

Yeah City attacks are waaay too strong at the moment (imo and others opinion as well), hopefully will be tuned be down for next version.

Also you're in unhappiness which means your units suffer -10% combat strength, so keep that in mind as well.

PS: what is this resolution? 10 million X 5 million? :D

Just recently got a 1440p IPS panel! I love the real estate but my GTX 1060 is struggling. Also I can't figure out how to do spoiler tags...very sorry.

I play domination exclusively, is it not normal to constantly be teetering around 50%?

Update: I'm ~halfway through the renaissance now. Early game settle spam ultimately worked out. I choked Portugal and Ethiopia into that corner very cheesily. Immediately after my post, I turned back around and wiped Ethiopia, then turtled until Portugal declared by which time I had cannons. Biggest AI issue has honestly been them over-prioritizing navy and then using it badly. I'm almost at frigates and am still encountering flotillas of triremes.

Oh this is just the beginning. Wait until you are seeing City strength of over a hundred. The things that are easily 1-Shot are things that have low strength against ranged attacks. Even now my tanks and light tanks are easy cannon fodder for cities. Eventually most gunpowder units will gain automatic ranged modifiers to boost them defensively. But these Lancer type units are doomed. Keep them safe, hit and run. Eventually things change as units become more plentiful for everyone. These units become more valuable because you can cycle them to pound a single spot. I know we're all pretty anal with our units in the beginning. But eventually you have to start sacrificing some of them in war LOL

This is definitely the case. There is only a set number of great works in the game. If you play with more civs they will be used up faster. It isn't necessarily A Bad Thing. It forces you to use the great persons other skills. The AI sn't getting an advantage. They can't create any more great works either. I'd have to say it's the first time I ever used the musician on tour. But it does have its use. And if you want more great works... Steal them or invade LOL

While this is true, something has happened to that limit in recent games. I have played many tradition games for as long as I can remember, yet the first time I can remember hitting the cap was a few months ago.

I'm still playing the stable version myself. I'll probably try a beta next game. As to your comment, are you sure you haven't been progressively stepping up your difficulty and therefore the competition is getting better at creating great works??
