Quick Questions / Quick Answers

They miss out on so much. Strategic view gang for the win. Once you get used to it, you do not come back to normal.
I understand people with slower machines use it in late game because they have to, but it looks like one big mess to me. I never got used to it. Are you saying that you actually use it voluntarily?

Drowned in hexagonic deluge? But I have children, so I'm used to quoting myself...
There was a mod which could send combat infos to notifications log, but I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know if its still available, and if it is compatible with latest VP version? I'd really like to use it again... :)
Update: I found the one from 2015 ("War log" by Andruh, for BNW). But it says "DLL replacing Mod", so I think it will not work with VP/EUI. But I still hope there's sth new...

I began using it when my computer was slow, as you can imagine. But in the end I decided to stay that way even after buying a better one. It makes informations much clearer, and so decision making (without having to check if a tile has a hill or not below that forest) become much quicker for me. I was simply joking (because I'm fond of the way people act surprised when I talk about it), but I'm aware that I'm isolated on that front, in the same way I'm isolated on the front of designing UCs (a tendency to add UNWs, as you can see for 4UC).

So you literally can't take use of your new computer, then?

I like and use both normal and strategic views.
While normally using normal view, I toggle F10 to see strategic view when I need more/quick information on road status, improvements needed, clarity of terrain, etc.
I have always appreciated hexagons – honeycombs, snowflakes, game grids

I use strategic view for peace time and normal view during war. I find it easier to see what tiles I've improved/not improved in strategic view but I find troop movement easier in normal view. Strategic view also keeps my laptop cooler. Which is nice when it's in my lap during the summer.

Interesting. My biggest problem with the strategic view is probably how unit icons are no centered in the middle of the tiles. I always get lost about what is where. And the bright colors probably contribute to my confusion. But I believe you that if you get used to it, it works well.

The only time I find the normal view lacking is when there's a half-finished tile improvement, these are hard to spot sometimes.

asking here to start... I can't load a saved game after uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and reinstalling exactly the same VP version. No other mod involved. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Yes, sometimes, but I think that was because files were damaged. Can you play, save a new one and reload that?

Where exactly in the mod files can I find details about unique buildings? For example, where can I find the yields for Japan's Dojo from promotions?

yes, this I can. And if I uninstall and reinstall the game through steam, without reinstalling VP, I can also reload the saves. But I can't reload the saves from before I reinstalled the game AND the mod. Maybe it's an obvious thing that I should be mindful of, but otherwise it should either be a more advertised risk of file damage (avoid reinstalling VP when reinstalling the game through steam if you are not changing mod version), or (less likely) maybe it is a specific issue with current VP version.

I am quite sure it is not basically an issue with the latest version of VP because I have no problems loading savegames. Sorry to say I have no better idea than a complete reinstall of VP (if you haven't already done this) or ask again in the istall thread and hope for wiser men's answers there :undecide:

yeah I already gave up on that game :) I'll ask on the install thread, at least to advertise against what I did

Strange... it seemed to be infectious. Just now I could not reload a savegame, because "Not all required mods are installed".
Indeed, meanwhile I had removed two mods from the mods folder, which had not been activated in my last game. But, now it works alright, after I copied them back into mod folder (again not activated ofc).
I have no idea why those mods should be "required" when not actived... Maybe you did anything alike?

Community Balance Patch/Balance Changes/Leaders/Vanilla/VanillaLeaderChanges.sql
Code:
INSERT INTO Building_YieldFromUnitLevelUp
	(BuildingType, YieldType, Yield)
VALUES
	('BUILDING_DOJO', 'YIELD_CULTURE', 4),
	('BUILDING_DOJO', 'YIELD_SCIENCE', 4);

Can an AI declare war on you during your turn?
Sorry if this is something common but it's the first time I've seen it. Playing on the last patch, declared war on Portugal who was friends with Aztecs (but no DP since this was still Classical) and they inmediately declare war on me after closing the diplo screen with Portugal. Just wondering if this is a common occurence or what causes it.

Portugal and the Aztecs had a coop war planned against you. One of them selected the "give us 10 turns" option.

If the target declares war first, the agreement still triggers.

@Recursive, can an AI be bribed to war while they are in peace after war?

I managed to secure peace with Inca after a bloody war, thought I had 14 turns of grace during which we were not allowed to DOW each other. So I moved all my army to the opposite side of my empire to aid in war with other 2 civs. To my surprise, the Inca were bribed to DOW me again in 2 turns.

If this is intentional, I am not sure I like it. IMO, it defeats the purpose of the forced grace period. The same about the auto-DOW if the attacked civ was planning a coop war against you mentioned above - I like a bit of unpredictability and randomness in my games, but this seems a bit untransparent.

(I am think I am 2 versions behind).
