Quick Questions / Quick Answers

Hi again forum. A new question regarding being spammed by notifications about border growth and extra income from killing and stuff.

I did a search about it and found out that VP likes where it is with its notifications, so my question is: Can you tell me where I'll find the file that controls the notifications that I might change them myself for my own games?

Thank you for your time

While some notifications are triggered by the UI files, sadly, some others are triggered by the DLL. So there's no way for you to disable them aside of modify the DLL yourself.
Yeah, they're a bit excessive at times. I mostly ended up not bothering with it and rather look at the Notification Log instead.

About nuclear attacks (nuclear missiles / atomic bombs), is there any special rules about using them that are not in civpedia (or that i missed?)? A search on the forums didn't help either...

In my current game, The dutch declare war to me during their turn, invade my territory. I reply with a fresh atomic bomb on their nearest city and a couple of other civs declare war on me for that. One is having a defensive pact so I get they can be triggered by someone using the atom againt an ally but also America (how ironic) is declaring war on me for that without any apparent diplomatic link to the Dutch. EDIT: Actually, reading the log, IT IS ME declaring war to them by using a nuclear weapon. america is not in a defensive pact with them... so how?

So what are the rules regarding using atomic bombs and nuclear attacks and where can I find them?

2) reckon units (special forces in this case) parachuting in hostile land losing health? Why? Because of air units in nearby city?

The most likely cause, there was an American unit in the blast area. This would auto trigger war.

Yeah I've learned my lesson. There was a mongol unit behind a mountain in the FoW and Mongols were allied to America...

I play Japan and got a CS quest "Give us a Samurai". If I do so, will I get the iron back? (ed. like after upgrade to tercio) Or will it be lost forever?

Units do not consume iron. They use it as maintenance. If you lose a unit -which used iron- by any mean (death, upgrade, gift), you stop consuming that iron as maintenance. Same if you receive a unit needing any strategic.

Thank you very much for the answers, even for the cryptic one... :hatsoff:

Btw, that reminds me of my youth...

In the 1960ies, after the Berlin and the Cuba Crises, the US Army purchases a brand new Strategic Mainframe Computer, to achieve better tactical and strategic decisions.
After years of development, the "SMC" is to be tested on his first strategic scenario. Hours of programming and computing, programming and computing, programming and computing...
Finally the General gets bored and commands:
Just ask him one simple question: "Should I attack or defend?"
Instantly the computer answers: "YES !"
The General, furiously: "Yes, WHAT????"

Computer: "YES, SIR!"

update Samurai/iron: Other rules for CS? Buenos Aires has no iron at all, but the unit seems to be quite happy...

Is there any benefit to settling on river tiles? It is only to build a water mill?
+25% gold from international trade routes.

There is sth else I do not understand about the units gifted to a CS: It seems those units lose promotions on upgrade.
The first picture (I have shown earlier); A higkly promoted Samurai with 4 CS pikesmen. Second picture: 2 pikesmen left, plus 3 tercios which all have equal promotions. None has specific promos like bushido etc. And there was no fighting meanwhile, the war has just been declared by their ally Greece. I'm puzzled...
