Ok obviously the game has some well known issues, but honestly im getting sick of seeing posts saying "Im never playing CIV again" and "I really cant stand the way things are with this game." Honestly, if people are on these forums they like the game, I for one really dont want to hear about how other people wont play it ever again. I come to the forums to discuss this great series not hear complancent people [Deleted] about things they found wrong with the game. Please keep the comments to yourself :mischief:

Ahh...but the only way things get changed is if there are complaints. The only way bugs get fixed are if they are brought up. So if people were to do what you asked, a number of people will never be able to play this game, period, or people who never want to play this game. What kind of business model is that?

Besides, I find some of these posts amusing, and if they aren't, I just go to the next thread. Unlike many forums, this forum gets far too many posts at once to be able to read every one of them.

There is nothing wrong with complaining, Some of them are mature about it, and use bring up good points that could be helpfull. They are the helpfull ones who shouldn't shut up.

The ones that should is the ones lile "OMG 1 C4N'7 RUN TH12 G4M3, 0N MY 186, HAX" Or something like that.

I can't believe you stole my next rant! :) :) :)

[Deleted] thread. As much of a waste of space as whiner threads.
[Deleted] thread or [Deleted] remark, my bet is on the last. If you read the first posts you would know that nobody opposes complaining. What is opposed, by me too, is the annoying, unstructured and by far constructive way of putting the complaints. If you really want to help fixing issues you should
  • - include exact description of the issue
    - include system specifications
    - include software platform (Windows 98/2000/XP)
Now look at the majority of the complaint threads and convince yourself how few complainers stick to this 'common sense rule'.

EDIT: MattJek, unless you're a moderator I advice you to wisely stay silent about the future of a topic. If this topic is thát worse we'll find out anyhow, with a short explanation from the active moderator.

Right insofar that many of us might be in love with "the game", with "the game" being CIVILIZATION in general and NOT necessarily the current 3D-watchamabooza-aren't-we-state-of-the-art-wohooo-all-your-hardware-are-belong-to-us spin-off CIV4. I certainly love the CIV family and have played more or less all editions, variants and alternatives from CIV1 onward. Personally, I'm quite disappointed with the direction the game takes with it's newest edition, and as far as I can see, I'm not alone.

Now,Firaxis is not the only company able to produce CIV-like games, but of course, they have an advantage, and I still honour them for some really excellent games they have done in the past. Nevertheless, without people voicing their opinion, Firaxis will never know WHAT it is that people like or dislike with their games.

I just have no idea why all those compatibility issues aren't moved to Technical/Help forum.

That's were they belong, not in General.

Otherwise they just become rants.
And rants are not feedback, and thus are usless for developer when improving/patching the game.

My idea:
-New rant forum, for complains to clear up general forum
-all compatibility issues move to Technical/Help forum

i 100% agrere with you. If people say "the game sucks" or "im never play this game again" it is total pointless. the guys making the game dont read a post like, "the game suck"s and say ok lets make the game unsuck. there is a difference in complaning and saying somthing that dosent work or you dont like about the game. There is never a reason to say im never playing civ again, becaus i dont care, and i dont think any one on this thread cares.
unless u say somthing specific, dont say it.

To the starter of this thread: Why are you here complaining and reading threads from whiney people? Why aren't you out there playing Civilization IV? Because that's where we whiners would be if the game only worked well in our computers. And, at least in my case, computers with the quite up-to-date everything (both hardware and drivers).

Why are comatibility problems and complains in general forum, instead of Help/technical were they belong?

They prevent players that enjoy the game and have no such problems from browsing general forum.

Useful threads drop at 2nd and 3rd page.
They also get less replies since they are less visible.

While compatibility problems are only interesting to those that do have such problems.

So why are they not in Technical Support forum?!?
That how it works for other games.

Also it's question of redundancy.

Why have dozen of disapointment threads, when one should be enough.

It just clutters the forum.

Especially now, when traffic in Civ4 forums is huge and thread from previous day drop to 3rd and 4th page.

it is very easy,

post problems in help technical

if you are disappointed in the game it is fine if you say things you dont like about the game like "i dont like the size of the trees they are too big". or "i dont like multi units, single was better." But dont post random things like "i hate the game"

I personally like reading the "whiney" threads. And no, I'm not some sadistic weirdo who enjoys getting mad at other peoples whines, the threads let me know that my problems are not isolated to just my setup.

So while the original poster may find whiney posts to be annoying, they actually are really helpful if you can weed through their BS and get to the heart of their problem. There is many a whiney thread that irritated me in these forums, but in the end, they ended up helping and/or confirming a problem of mine.

Just avoid the threads that have titles that look like there may be some "I'm never playing Civ 4 blah blah blah..." lines in them, and you'll avoid a lot of frustration. :goodjob:

As to how this all applies to Civ 4's current state, from what I've been reading, I'll just have to wait till version 2.0 till they get it right lol.

I've already had my say on another thread, so I won't kick Kid_icoris' arse around the forum.

But I will address those who believe that there are too many "rant" or "whiney" threads here. My answer is this: if you don't like it, then don't bother to read OR comment. Simply bypass it, and quit wasting your 'valuable' time then. Does that appear to be reasonable?

If the Firaxus people are reading through this, they will not be getting anything from your irritation and wasted 'hot aire', so simply "shut up and soldier" somewhere else.

And I honestly believe that the more the merrier for the Firaxis people. If they are diluded with complaints, they will be spurred on to fix their problems faster.

And in case your "belevolent", holier than thou folks haven't heard this, I will repeat it for you. "The squeeky wheel always gets the grease first".

Is my point taken?
