R.E.D. WWII: Concepts & Suggestions

Thank you, Gedemon and Tkcommander, you really know how to put *one more turn* back into CiV(until the expension that is). 2 things tough;

Since the new update, the *Hotseat* map in the 1939 europe map is...kinda wrong. There is no unit on the maps and every city can build EVERYTHING! Please correct it before next weekend so that my buddies and I can dish it out :)

Also, gold seem to be a problem, and it get worse for Germany/Italy, since every city you capture cost more gold then they produce. I just finished a deity game as Italy, and I needed convoys just to stay even in gold. I think the problem might be twofold:
-Road and railroads should be free. A lot of gold is lost that way, but this *feature* is in the game to prevent players buying roads everywhere. Since nobody can build road anyway, paying for roads just seems weird. It will also help North Africa and USSR to be worth conquering, as cities will bring gold instead of costing gold.

-Secondly, essentials buildings should be free. Barracks/factory/shipyard/harbor cost a lot of gold, but they are pretty much required for a city to even be useful for the war economy.

Barracks seem to be the main problem tough. Since the building is SO powerful(xp on land unit + defensive strenght + infantry build + Personal generator) on a quick to build building means its a must have on most cities. The problem is that EVERY city is building it, including AI civ and city-states, making evey city costing more gold then it will ever produce.

IMO, Barracks should be free at the very least, and factories as well, to make the gold production easier. I suggest creating new building, that will cost a lot of gold but give a significant boost to one type of unit production. Hence, the production will look like this.
-Tier 1: nothing can be built in the city, but the city cost nothing in gold. The basic state of most city.
-Tier 2: City now has at least one type of factories and is able to build units. Yay!
-Tier 3: City has a factory and an assembly line. This city can build tanks faster, but it incur a significant cost in gold to afford the boost in production.

This scenario is getting better and better! keep it up!

Hi guys, Im kinda new here but i downloaded your mod and it was amazing. But whenever I'm playing as someone and I make peace with another civ or nation state, ALL of my conquest is gone and given back to the original owner. Is this a bug or an intentional design and how can you bypass that?
 
I have a problem... i installed the files, browsed, enabled and loaded them, but when i click on Start game, nothing happened...

hi again.finally i upgrated my pc and i managed to play the mod.although its a great mod with a lot of accuracy i want to make some comments.i have tried two campaigns till now.the 1939-1945 scenario as britain and the hotseat game as usa.for the first one:can you explain me with a few words how the convoys work?where they come from when i recieve one and where they go when u send one?what kind of cargo they carry?it looks that this is happened automatically but sometimes when something happend during the voyage(i.e an enemy attack)game is asking from u to move the convoy to a specific destination so i dont know what to do.do the convoys carry reinforcments to other fronts?or new units?i'm asking this because i noticed a second unit of spitfires in suez.(in the beginning i had one).can u form a convoy by yourself or the computer desides?
another issue in british campaign is that germans and italians look unstoppable.germans produse hundrends of tanks and planes.they have conquered the whole Europe very easy.when they conquer France they launch raids over and over again with 6-7 bomber formations(heinkels,jungers 88,stukas)and 5-6 squadrons of messerschmitts.i had only 4 or 5 squadrons of spitfires who seem to achieve nothing even with upgrates.except that, it take ages to discover new planes not to mention the dicrease of money in everyturn.only navy holds against enemy shipping ,but....when operation sealion happened instead of destroying the invasion vessels easy,especially the battleships, Germans managed to pass the fleet and land units of infantry and tanks in the island.i think this is redicoulous and in a future patch this has to be fixed.the vessels who carry troops must be very weak.
same thing happened in africa.British fleet is a winner and controls the sea but italians have a lot more units in the theater and u cannot hold.i could not produse new units from suez and Egypt doesnt help at all.convoys keep coming but with what?although i managed to destroy most of the italian fleet more and more units and planes appeared in north africa and at the end they destroyed me very easy and captured Alexandria,Cairo and Suez.
as a coclusion i think fighters are very weak against bombers who seem to dont bother from fighter's interseptions.germans keep produsing tanks and planes. in the other hand british spend 10 turns to produse a single squadron.not to mention the rest of the cities who produse nothing because they have to generate wealth.do u have any tip?will the Americans somehow appear to help?why u cant build different factories in cities?i have only 3 cities capable of producing for the army and its unfair to limit the choises.in the same time Axis have more than 30 cities in the map.

Hello giovanni, heres a few answer for your questions:

As Great Britain, convoy will spawn from two locations: Suez and North-America.
Convoys can be one of four things: Personels, Materials, Golds or an equipped Unit. All those convoys are heading to the city of Plymouth. They should be automated, but you sometimes have to control them manually if their path is blocked by something. Just move them toward Plymouth.

Regarding the war itself, I never played on the allied side, but when I played as Italy, north Africa was REALLY easy to capture, as UK does not have a lot of troops to protect Egypt. I suggest to let Egypt fall but to send some additional troops from the west. Land troops in Morroco/Algeria and attack the Italians from there.
Make sure your fleet is protecting your army, wich should be fairly easy to do as UK do rules the sea!
Dont forget that AI get bonus unit depending on the difficulty. You can produce more factories in a city but only one type per city.(You cant produce a tank and a plane in the same city.)
You will get lots of gold from your convoys, use it to insta-buy te units you need most at the current time, depending on the situation. In the beginning, make sure that every single peice of land in England is filled with a unit. AI has a tendency to suicide his troops in amphibious assaults
, a flaw from CiV, not the scenario itself, but one you can use to your advantage. As england, do not try to fight Germany by yourself, let the Mighty USSR do it for you while you make sure to bomb German cities to the points where they wont produce anything.

P.S. To destroy carried troops, use submarine and/or planes. They are more more effective then surface ships!
 
thanks about the advises LostKnight.they will be very helpfull.nevertheless are u sure that convoys go to Plymouth only?i mean that i have seen convoys pass Givraltar going towards Egypt.where they come from?except that i cant bomb german cities simply because there is a fog of war.only coastal french cities who mean nothing to the German war effort.it looks like that russia must fight alone as England seems isolated(at least until 1942)u cant attack europe because of the lack of troops,u cant properly bomb their cities because of the f.o.w and of course the distance.ok u can sink everything but is this enough?

Hello Gedemon, I tried the new version of the mod in the 39-45 scenario with France, and now it's really harder (all what I wanted, thank you very much!!!). But I detected some issues :
- you added 2 Richelieu class to the french navy, but in 1939, there was only one, because the "Jean-Bart" was still under construction, so you could maybe replace it by a Dunkerque class.
- Now I don't receive Curtiss Hawk 75 from the USA, but I still receive others convoys (and not twice now ;) ). I don't know if it was voluntary so I prefer to prevent you...
And I have a question : Is it possible for the next version to not allow major civs to move their units on the C-S territory when they are neutral, because it's not very realistic, and very annoying too...
Apart from that, I love the new operations!! The AI seems to use it effectively, and it's good to see them where they never were before and where they should be. I'm anxious to see more.
 
Hello Gedemon, this is my first post in this page and I just wanted to say how much I love your mod,it completely revived my interest for Civ V after many months, i just have some doubts regarding the mod:

1.What does the calling reserves message from germany mean?
2.how does the french UA work, i've played twor times with the french and I haven't seen any partisan units yet.

Hi again. I love your mod and I've been playing the Red WWII edition of the game as Soviet Union and it is really fun even though i cant make peace without losing all my conquests. However, today I tried to start a new game as Germany in the 1939 map with the eastern seaboard and at turn 2, I crash. It says runtime error and is occurring at the end of turn two, right after all the other countries complain to me about my expansion. I have tried all the other maps, and it also crashes on turn two. I can still load my old game as Soviet Russia though. Please help!

Since the new update, the *Hotseat* map in the 1939 europe map is...kinda wrong. There is no unit on the maps and every city can build EVERYTHING! Please correct it before next weekend so that my buddies and I can dish it out :)
I can't reproduce it, have you tried to clear your cache, and have you removed the previous version of the mod ?

If so, please post your lua log.

Also, gold seem to be a problem, and it get worse for Germany/Italy, since every city you capture cost more gold then they produce. I just finished a deity game as Italy, and I needed convoys just to stay even in gold. I think the problem might be twofold:
-Road and railroads should be free. A lot of gold is lost that way, but this *feature* is in the game to prevent players buying roads everywhere. Since nobody can build road anyway, paying for roads just seems weird. It will also help North Africa and USSR to be worth conquering, as cities will bring gold instead of costing gold.

-Secondly, essentials buildings should be free. Barracks/factory/shipyard/harbor cost a lot of gold, but they are pretty much required for a city to even be useful for the war economy.
Roads and railroads cost less than vanilla (1 gpt for each), but I don't wan't to completely remove that cost, else USSR would be the n°1 in economy :D

And I want buildings to have those costs, you shouldn't build barracks in each cities, use the wealth process on some, build banks, build factories only in cities where you plan to use the "Buy war bonds" process, etc...

And usually, capturing France when I play Germany double my gpt, I don't know why it cost you instead, that' strange.

some question

- where is AA guns ?

- Can not speed up aircraft animation? AI with a lot of bombers is so boring, takes so much time every turn.

- What is operations?
1/ No AA guns, they were planned as a part of artillery units, but it wasn't fun to play as they intercepted aircraft on sweep mission... And all units defend themselves against planes anyway.

2/ yes, raise <fMoveRate> values in Civ5ArtDefines_UnitMembers.xml in the RED WWII mod folder

3/ military projects that give some bonus units to the player (human and AI) on some operational theaters (ex : paratroopers in Norway for Germany)

Hi guys, Im kinda new here but i downloaded your mod and it was amazing. But whenever I'm playing as someone and I make peace with another civ or nation state, ALL of my conquest is gone and given back to the original owner. Is this a bug or an intentional design and how can you bypass that?
When at peace, frontier returns to start of game state. So, don't make peace in free mode unless you've lost territory.... ;)

I have a problem... i installed the files, browsed, enabled and loaded them, but when i click on Start game, nothing happened...

Same thing for the rhettrongun version...

can you explain me with a few words how the convoys work?where they come from when i recieve one and where they go when u send one?what kind of cargo they carry?it looks that this is happened automatically but sometimes when something happend during the voyage(i.e an enemy attack)game is asking from u to move the convoy to a specific destination so i dont know what to do.do the convoys carry reinforcments to other fronts?or new units?
When passing the mouse over a convoy unit's flag, it will show you it's cargo and destination.

About the rest of your post, you can choose the difficulty level, but I found the mod already to easy even in deity (making it help, yes) so I don't plan to lower general difficulty balance (but again default level is deity, you can use another level, it will help)

The embarked unit is a problem, I don't find it balanced yet, after a lot of tweak.

That's a vanilla problem, making the game considering embarked unit as land unit and applying land unit bonuses (for example attacking an embarked tank with a stuka will do a one shot kill, I had not found a way around yet)

u cant attack europe because of the lack of troops,u cant properly bomb their cities because of the f.o.w and of course the distance.ok u can sink everything but is this enough?
There is an option to make all cities visible in the setting menu.

- you added 2 Richelieu class to the french navy, but in 1939, there was only one, because the "Jean-Bart" was still under construction, so you could maybe replace it by a Dunkerque class.

Yes, you'll receive Hawk 75 only if Germany as a clear superiority in fighters, and is still a bit random, so you may not receive any at all in some game.

If you never receive any in multiple games, could be a bug, report again ;)

edit : there was a problem with that in dev version of v.26, I don't remember if I've corrected it in v.26 final or in dev version of v.27 (next version)

just correct it if in your version it says GERMANY where I've put FRANCE in red, it really should be FRANCE there... (that is corrected in v.27)


And I have a question : Is it possible for the next version to not allow major civs to move their units on the C-S territory when they are neutral, because it's not very realistic, and very annoying too...
Sadly not, need DLL access for this one.

Apart from that, I love the new operations!! The AI seems to use it effectively, and it's good to see them where they never were before and where they should be. I'm anxious to see more.

Hello Gedemon, this is my first post in this page and I just wanted to say how much I love your mod,it completely revived my interest for Civ V after many months, i just have some doubts regarding the mod:

1.What does the calling reserves message from germany mean?
2.how does the french UA work, i've played twor times with the french and I haven't seen any partisan units yet.

Hi again. I love your mod and I've been playing the Red WWII edition of the game as Soviet Union and it is really fun even though i cant make peace without losing all my conquests. However, today I tried to start a new game as Germany in the 1939 map with the eastern seaboard and at turn 2, I crash. It says runtime error and is occurring at the end of turn two, right after all the other countries complain to me about my expansion. I have tried all the other maps, and it also crashes on turn two. I can still load my old game as Soviet Russia though. Please help!

Both part installed, but it does absolutely nothing after i press start (just keeping pressing start, and nothing) and yes i have the latest patch for civ 5 installed too.
 
I did a clean install of the mods(deleted them both from my system, then erased the cache, then downloaded both mods again, then installing them in the right folder)
I unfortunatly still has the same problem, and only on the 1939 map, all other maps work fine in hotseat, and there is no problem in single player.

I have included the LUA file, so you can try to find the problem. Hopefully, I wont have to reinstall civ again lol

I've updated the mod to next patch, and for those that are beta-testing it, it's available on steam workshop.

But now the mod is no more compatible with actual version of Civ5, that means next update here will be released after the official patch.

So I'm posting here a quickfix for LostKnight problem (failed initialization when there are human player on both side) :

Extract the RedFunctions.lua contained in the attached zip file to the "\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\R.E.D. WWII Edition (v 26)\Lua\" directory, replacing the old file.

Just thought I'd ask (Since it's hard to read through 42 pages - I think this mod needs its own subforum!) whether the 'other' maps (The ones that aren't the 39-45 Europe) are as balanced and as detailed as the main one. It seems that I mostly play the Europe map but was thinking of branching out, but since I noticed that the Europe map is the only one with projects, I hesitated.
