R.E.D. WWII: Concepts & Suggestions

This mod is really really good. I have been playing for about three hours now as the United States, on the North America Europe scenario from 1936.

Some questions...

1. I was able to build the B-17 project, but I cannot build smaller aircraft, such as fighters, even though I have the small and medium air factories built. Why is this?

2. I am getting plenty of gold from convoys, but my gold per turn is running low. What are some ways to build up my gold per turn in this mod? I have turned several cities into producing wealth.

3. Do projects come up automatically? I would love to have some fighters and attack aircraft.

4. If you go to war can you capture enemy convoys to get gold that way? Obviously sinking them makes it so the home country does not benefit.

Another note the battles seem very interesting and drawn out, which I love. You have paid excellent attention to detail here.

I was messing around and gifted 5 infantry, an M3 Stuart, and a Fletcher class destroyer to Republican Spain. Because of this they have held out six months so far. One thing I noticed is that in Cartagena there is this squadron of what looks to be Russian fighter planes. To be more specific Polikarpov I-16s. Now those pilots are very tired intercepting all kinds of stukas and He-111s, bf 109s. It is really intense.

:hatsoff: to you Gedemon, for creating an excellent mod. You would make a great WWI mod. WWI mods are hard to come by. If I have any more questions I'll let you know. This certainly will keep me busy until GnK comes out. :D

1/ Seems that early fighter is not defined for USA in this scenario, I'll fix it in next version, you can open DefinesAmericaEuro1936.lua in the "My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\R.E.D. WWII Edition (v 25)\Lua\AmericaEuro1936" folder and replace this line:

2/ Banks and wealth (wealth process give more gold than vanilla civ). And don't build all buildings in all cities, some have a very high gpt cost.

3/ Yes, based on the real timeline with a few randomness from game to game for base models (say T-34), then based on XP gained by that model during combat for variants (say T34/76)

4/ You can't capture enemy convoy, there just meat for your subs (who, in turns, are meat for destroyers)

I select the mod, install it, deselect any other mod. I go to start the mod and click the 'START' button and nothing happens? I also followed the trouble shooting steps. Please help. Thanks in advance!
If your have Civ updated to latest version, post your lua.log please.
 
if i download the patch 1.0.1.511? will it update for all the other patches as well that came before? if not, is there a patch or file that can get me up to date?
 
I don't know, patching is automatic through steam

How did you install the mod exactly, and how do you try to launch it ?

1st of all, thank you for the awesome scenario. I love the concept of convoys and of reinforcements.
There is 3 things that bother me tough:

1- You probably balanced the game with CPU players in mind, as the allies(France/UK) Is way too strong in the begining to do a proper Hotseat game. I tried this scenario with a few friends and a couple of beers, and Germany get killed very easily if UK and France pool their armies and assault Germany from the west. With all the free unites both allies get trough their convoy, Germany cant produce nearly enough troops/tank/planes to keep up and is quickly eliminated(in the 2 games we played with the *true* war declaration, we finished Germany before the summer of 1940. With the game where we allowed Italy to help Germany ASAP, we still got Germany before winter 1940)

-One solution might be to not send free units trough convoy before the war really start(June 1940, once Italy enter the war).
-Another solution would be to include the Siegfried line. Yes, it was not completed by the time the war started but the whole point of this line was to prevent an attack from the west while Germany Finish Poland.

2-Planes are really weak now. Bomber can be decent against cities, but an attack planes(say, a Stuka) should not take a full year to kill a lowly unprotected tank division. If an attack plane get a free pass toward a ground unit, it should HURT them, thus forcing players to have good defensive air coverage.

3-This mod crashes. A lot. Tough it crash less in hotseat mode then in single player.(We can easily play a full game trough hotseat, saving every turn, while it crash every turn in single player) I am not really savvy in computers, so the crashes might not be your fault at all, you are the 1st mod I actually tried and I have never seen CiV crash in the regular game.(Granted, I never play larger maps, and always play with all the graphic settings at MAX, so it might simply be my computer not being able to handle all the sweetness of the mods)

P.S. It is not truly related to this mod, but I can open your other mod(the full earth, 1942) in single or hotseat mode, it crash during the initial loading.

P.P.S.(still here, dang you are awesome) Kudo to the unit's creator, love having an Italian Battleship shooting at a French Cruiser while an injured UK destroyer is retreating for repairs!)
 
1st of all, thank you for the awesome scenario. I love the concept of convoys and of reinforcements.

1- You probably balanced the game with CPU players in mind, as the allies(France/UK) Is way too strong in the begining to do a proper Hotseat game. I tried this scenario with a few friends and a couple of beers, and Germany get killed very easily if UK and France pool their armies and assault Germany from the west. With all the free unites both allies get trough their convoy, Germany cant produce nearly enough troops/tank/planes to keep up and is quickly eliminated(in the 2 games we played with the *true* war declaration, we finished Germany before the summer of 1940. With the game where we allowed Italy to help Germany ASAP, we still got Germany before winter 1940)

-One solution might be to not send free units trough convoy before the war really start(June 1940, once Italy enter the war).
-Another solution would be to include the Siegfried line. Yes, it was not completed by the time the war started but the whole point of this line was to prevent an attack from the west while Germany Finish Poland.

Yes, the balance was made with the AI in mind, now that hotseat is available, I plan to change the rules for bonus:
- AI will get units/buildings/reinforcement bonus only if there's no human player in the same side. Bonus will be applied to all players (including human) if there are humans player on both side.

As AI Germany got a bigger industrialization bonus than UK/France AI, this should help a bit.

I was planning to add the 2 fortification lines the same way (for AI if no human on same side, or for both side), but I've not defined the fortification units yet. (and it won't balance what you're describing here anyway)

Also in next version (that I'm testing right now ;) ), the US convoys won't start before the war (ok, that's just 5 turns later) and tanks/planes won't be send unless there is 25% more on the German side.

With 2 or 3 promotions, Stuka does hurt armored units, I'm afraid to make them too powerful if I raise the base strength. And the main point of hurting tanks is the cost on enemy materiel.

I may buff them a bit if there is multiple demands.

Try the Stalingrad scenario, if it doesn't crash then it's related to the map size, which seems to be confirmed by the giant map of the 1942 scenario not loading at all.

Hello LostKnight, I agree with you that Germany is not strong enough when is played by AI. But I found a solution to make the game more interesting waiting the new version, I just slightly modified the map in the 1939 scenario, and it works (I just added units to germans at start, added manufactories next to their cities, and I increased population in some cities...). I tried it playing French and I was pushed back to Paris in may 1940... And until 1943, I simply couldn't move my army to attack germans, and in addition they pushed back the Russian army. So it was a very interesting game. I have not try it in hotseat yet, but if you want I can give you my modified version of the map.

I've attached the map file here, you just have to copy the original file where you want (in case you don't like the mine) and to extract my file to : "my documents/my games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/MODS/R.E.D. WWII Edition (v 25)".
It's just for the european 1939 scenario...

I did try the stalingrad scenario, work perfectly. So it seem my computer does not like large map :(

I might try to reduce the graphical settings, might work...
 
New version uploaded on CFC file database ! :D

And another major feature added, military operation: projects that can be completed in cities with military base to allow the creation of a task force of multiple units that will be deployed once the project is completed. That should help the AI to deploy on fronts where it wasn't going before...

Only two operation are available in this version (Weserübung and Seelöwe), and only for the 1939/45 Europe map, but more will be added once the feature is stable enough.

- Balance : more units at start for German AI on the 1939-45 Europe map.
- Balance : simplification of projects requirements. Academy are needed for brand new units (ex: Panzer IV), Academy OR required building for upgrades (ex: Academy OR Land Factory for Panzer IV G)
- Balance : AI get units/buildings bonus only if there's no human player in the same side. Bonus are applied to all player if there are humans player on both side.
- Balance : added manufactories in Germany.
- Balance : added Cherbourg city in France (with harbor)

I think the military operation has the potential to make the AI a whole lot more competive assuming we can make AI only operations.

and I apoligize the p-36 and p-40 were not buildable and I meant for them to be.

The AI in the Earth 1942 Map seems to be a lot sharper. Embarkation woes are a thing of the past and I'm in the naval fight-of-my-life in the pacific. The Yanks actually showed up! And it's only turn 6 in my new game. This is a massive improvement thus far!

Couple of notes:

AI controlled subs seem to sit there after making an attack. This is a bad thing when they're fighting destroyers!

And Destroyers vs embarked units are pretty weak. This is maybe OK, but I'm still disappointed when I deal only 4-6 damage per shot. (they're still level 0-1) It's good incentive to leave the heavy fighting to the surface ships and to use subs solely to hunt transports and carriers (and BB's)

More feedback to come, but it'll amount to splitting hairs now.
 
I'm not entirely sure how to work the whole reinforcement/health system and whatnot, but the way units can take tiles is brilliant. This should be in vanilla civ V, as it is far and away better than the current culture border system.

Also, I like how units are much tougher, 1 damage is insignificant almost, which is a good thing.
