[R&F] R&F Cultural Styles Preview in Asset Editor?

I sincerely appreciate the diversity in art for civ 6. It adds a lot to the game even if you don't explicitly notice it - the whole is greater than the parts.

Whether you explicitly realize it or not, the extraordinary cultural diversity visible on the map, from building styles to unit ethnicity, makes for an immensely more aesthetic experience than civ 5. I only wish they'd bring back region specific terrain art!

Either way bravo to the artists. It makes the game very enjoyable and I love taking the time to look through my cities.

Bravo to the artists!

In the abstract I agree with that, but what are they NOT doing in order to make time to build more palaces? Time gets budgeted. I think terrains and the like would enhance the experience more.

This is... surprising. And people thought yesterday's announcement would lead to a disappointing week. Fools!

Well, to be honest, for those of us who wanted the Inca to be in, it is, in fact, a bit to very much disappointing if we accept the Mapuche resemblance (if that is Huayna Capac, they took that shot right after he woke up and before his hairdo was done right and he had gotten all his bling, bling on), despite how certain revelations are truly interesting and generating a lot of discussion and analysis.

I love that @bite went to sleep thinking he had seen the big reveal of the day.

You're very bad, aren't you, @Eagle Pursuit? But you're right. He is probably peacefully sleeping without a clue as to the investigative machinations happening here. I just can't believe there is a real chance the Inca won't be around this time. Sad.

This x100. Love the little details this game has!

Truly! I hope this thread inspires more people to stop and smell the roses on their maps and enjoy the treats the artists left for us, especially with the even more unique styles coming in Rise and Fall! :)

I wish really want to move the City Banner to below the city (like in Civ 3) so I can notice the City Art more.

Completamente de acuerdo, @pokiehl. (How's practicing Spanish coming along!?) I have started to also look around and zoom in a lot more. There is a great mod that lets you Zoom in a lot more. Like I have said before, the enjoyment for the game comes from the details. Bravo, Firaxis artists.

This makes me worried that Norway isn't getting its own unique palace style and'll have to continue using the disassociating pan-European one until eventually another patch or DLC. But, the Cree nor the Dutch palaces are in this preview, so I can still hope...
Even if that is the case, I hope the Norwegians will at least be assigned to the ANC monument, as that would be more accurate - cairns, or "varder" as we know them, are by no means uncommon here.

I think it's a decent bet that everyone will end up with their own palace by the time of launch.

As a side note, all this wonderful art reminds me how much I want an option to disable to the generic modern skyscrapers when you leave the Industrial Age. It's all so boring compared to the cultural art.

AB = Ancient Basic? Basin? (as per river basin civs?) Barbaric? (does not fit the art)... Which civs use this palace? I'm sure of egypt, but not others...
AE = Ancient Eastern (russia and beyond)
AW = Ancient Western (europe, americas?)

Agree with the rest.
RSUM = Sumerian
RSS = Sub-Saharan
RC = Chinese
RMUG = Mughal
RSA = South American (which seems to include Mexico ;P)
RE = European
RBAL = Baltic
RENG = English
RNA = North African
RSCT = Scottish
RJ = Japanese
RIND = Indonesian
RMED = Mediterranean
RAM = America
RSPN = Spanish

Monuments:
I'm think these are on point too
ANC = Ancient
A W = African + Western (?) Best guess up to now. W is western for palaces too.
ASIAN = Asian
RMUG = Mughal
ROME = Roman
RSA = South American

And yet accurate. Modern architecture just doesn't have the distinctiveness that architecture used to, especially at the macro level. :( But yeah, I always hate hitting the Industrial Era and seeing my beautiful, unique cities disappear. :cry:

If you take a look at and compare major cities all over the world, there does seem to be slight differences in the modern architecture style. But perhaps it's too subtle for many to notice.

So, Mapuche and Scots are on my list of long-shot, but probably won't happen. So was Nubia. Georgia was added to the list, but only after leader bingo, so I'm not sure that counts. I didn't have Cree. In the interest of full disclosure, here's my long-shot list:

* Nubia
* Mapuche
* Scots
* Shawnee
* Cherokee
* Bulgaria
* Serbs
* Romania/Wallachia
* Gokturks
* Phoenicia (who I used to be opposed to)

Vietnam has always been at a level above, but I'm starting to think they should be dropped to the long-shot list, just so they have a chance. That's how I had that list ordered, btw. No civ that's been featured before counts for the long-shot list (but boy do I want the Hittites)

That's what I meant by "at the macro level." Sure, there are little differences, but if you zoom out to Civ6's level, you're not going to notice them much. Still, ditching that bland European contemporary style for something more interesting like Googie or Art Deco would be nice. :p
