R&L01 - Monarch Space Race

Thank you, DR! It sounds like the fight on Egypt is going well and almost over. Then we'll see about stabilizing the world to head for space. Even if it means taking aout a few other countries first....

can someone attach the save for me please? With my most recent Norton Antivirus update, it did something where I can't even download linked saves when I disable the program. I should be able to download an attached save.
Many thanks.

it works, thanks!

I have a question.

Is ToE in Seoul a prebuild for Hoovers? I would prefer to switch it over to Hoovers in 11 rather than ToE in 6 as If we build ToE now, we will have to take 2 cheap techs as our free ones. We're still up at least electricity, if not steam power, on all other civs. I would prefer to start ToE in Seoul after Hoovers is built. As a safety precaution, I can start an army in P'yongyang that could be switched to ToE if it looks like we would lose it by building it in Seoul.

Thoughts please.

Sounds good. We're trying to save for TOE for Modern Age techs.

Fully agree - Hoover's first & ToE as late as possible without losing it.

Thanks, Misfit, for posting the roster! :D

preflight (1400ad)

turn research down to 30%. Still get Electronics in 1.
MM for civil engineers in captured egyptian towns

ibt: learn Electronics, start corporation.

turn 1 (1405ad)

switch Seoul from ToE in 6 to Hoovers in 11 and MM to get it in 10
Switch P'yongyang from infantry to army (possible ToE prebuild if necessary)

ibt:

Greece and Vikings signed peace treaty
Egypt and Maya signed MA against Greece

turn 2 (1410ad)

rushed some improvements and some military with a couple turns left

ibt:
Maya requested MMP and wanted us to pay 79gpt for it, I decline their offer
Fustat flipped to us

turn 3 (1415ad)

Start moving to take Memphis and El-Amarna

ibt:
Sumerians want MMP and ROP, I decline

turn 4 (1420ad)

Capture El-Amarna

ibt:

turn 5 (1425ad)

Capture Memphis
WW getting worse. Should have gems hooked up in one or two turns

ibt:

Greece wants peace. They give us Ephesus, 45g, WM, 4gpt
Celts and Arabia signed Peace treaty

turn 6 (1430ad)

moving troops

ibt: Celts and Vikings signed Peace treaty

turn 7 (1435ad)

pillaged Egyptian saltpeter outside Thebes
Celts move galleon next to sparsely defended city

turn 8 (1440ad)

Gems hooked up :)
Still have 5 turns left on Alliance vs Celts. I think we're going to lose Huich'on for a turn or two. Four turns left on library. Can't afford to rush a rifle. Switched to harbor and rushed it, hoping it will survive occupation.
Captured Thebes with Leonardo's

ibt:

turn 9 (1445ad)

Laying down rail lines in former Egyptian lands

ibt:

Egypt requested an audience. We denied their ambassador access to Ding-A-Ling, guardian of the sacred Dong. Who knows, Cleo might have ordered the ambassador to steal it for her. *struggles to keep straight face while typing this - fails*
Built our 3rd army, start Pentagon.

turn 10 (1450ad)

Set jb up to capture another Egyptian town next turn.

NOTES:

1. I bumped research up a notch and hired some taxmen to get refining in 1
2. We didn't lose Huich'on, but there's a wounded Celt rifle outside the borders.
3. Ephesus needs a defender.
4. We're still up Electricity on everyone, Hoover's due in 1. I think we might risk delaying ToE a little longer. The Pentagon that's building in P'yongyang could be used a prebuild anytime in the next 10 turns if we need it to be.

Got it...

It's been centuries since I have seen The Dong.

This is my last active SG.

If any of you are looking for another player in another SG I would be happy to join.

Two turns done and Cleo's left with three small cities strung out on different continents. We make peace w/ the Celts. Hoover's is in and we're working on Steel. With our own supply of saltpeter we're now selling some of our luxes that had been trade fodder.

Very nice job, rrau! :D Glad to see that you're keeping the spirit of the game! ;)

Turn 0 – 1450 AD
Everything looks good and I know rrau would never do me wrong.
Huich'on looks well defended despite warnings.
We disband some warriors and a regular archer. Some of our cities are going to finish infrastructure and will be able to pop out infantry.
The only city that’s unhappy is Memphis and that’s for good reason. Rrau just rolled ‘em.
ToE is not being built by any of the AI’s

IBT:
Refining comes in and we set our sights on Steel in 4 turns running a deficit.
Hoover’s is complete
People love us and we get two palace expo’s. The façade is gorgeous!

Turn 1 – 1455 AD
Rrau has set me up w/ some galleons filled w/ fine units.
The three muskets in Alexandria are toast. We attack w/ infantry after bombing them to 1hp apiece so to save movement of the armies and cavalry to the next target.
Rail to the forces and sign a RoP w/ Alexander to put units in Cleo’s face ASAP.
First army arrives to find Alexander has a pack of rifles going against Cleo’s muskets.
We attack w/ an army, dispatch the musket to find the second layer of defense is a pike.
An elite cavalry kills off the pike and we get a GL!

jcharger.JPG

More regular muskets are behind the vet pike. Vet cav kills a regular musket.
Vet cav retreats from regular musket but next cavalry takes him out leaving a lone LB.
Vet cavalry takes Byblos

The wounded Celt unit (rifle) outside Huich'on is now dead.

IBT:
We lose our supply of saltpeter but that’s fine because we now have our own supply.
Sell two luxuries to Smoke and get 27gpt in return. I didn't even haggle on this for some reason and left money on the table.

Turn 2 – 1460 AD
Bomb and then kill off all defenders of Byblos. Egypt has three more cities strung out.

IBT:
The Celts land 4 more rifles outside of Huich'on.

Turn 3 – 1465 AD
We make peace with the Celts and get a WM and 24g as well.
Moving troops towards Cleo’s outposts. Won’t be able to reach all of them this set of turns. WW might get to be a real problem.
We’ll go on a selling spree of luxuries and excess resources for cash to bump up entertainment to 20%. However, the only buyer for anything is Smoke so we sell him spices for 22gpt. Now I know I left money on the table.

IBT: Nothing

Turn 4 – 1470 AD
Nothing

IBT:
Steel comes in and we go for Combustion at 60% in 6 turns while building some cash.

Turn 5 – 1475 AD
We trade Industrialization to Smoke Jag for incense and gold.
Industrialization to Gilgamesh for Communism to build police stations if needed.

IBT:
Renew a deal w/ Abu for furs at an outrageous price (2 techs, 1 lux and 9g).
Sumeria and the Celts make peace.

Turn 6 – 1480 AD
We found John Wonson.
Our army lands outside of Avaris.
We’re following the sea born armies w/ infantry to occupy whatever we conquer.
Bump research to 80% at +4gpt to bring in Combustion in a total of 5 turns.

IBT:
Nothing

Turn 7 – 1485 AD
Starting the great irrigation project. Many of our cities in the northern territories are utterly corrupt so I’m reworking the land for food to support growth and specialists. We’re transporting the bulk of our workers in the homeland to the north.
Our army takes Avaris and immediately boards her transport for the next target. The reinforcing units are coming up.
We have two more gems hooked up but no buyers.
We have 17 cities on the edge of happiness (content).

IBT:
We get the Pentagon. I should have switched it over last turn to Wall Street but I missed it.

Turn 8 – 1490 AD
We found Bob.
We found Hyundai City
Army drops off next to Pithom. Too bad the city is only size 1 because it would make a great passage to Buto.
Combustion in 2 turns. We keep hiring CE’s in the north and making sure the tech pace remains the same.
All the high turn production cities are worked over.
We’re down to 11 content cities. This is a good thing.

IBT:
Sumeria and Arabia sign a peace treaty.

Turn 9 – 1495 AD
Auto-raze Pithom. The Maya have a monster stack of units just to the north of what was Pithom.
Still at 11 content cities.
Ephasis has two workers blocking all but ampibious landings but there's a galleon w/ units 3 moves out to drop off defense.

Image of Ephasis and approaching forces

IBT:
Combustion is compete and we start on Mass Production in 4 at –36gpt.

Turn 10 – 1500 AD
We found Hillsville in the, well... hills of former Egypt.

Image of new cities..

Cities are content but WW has been creeping up.
Image of MapState Happiness tab...

We have two armies hanging out on this thin strip of land. There's a galleon going around to the North to transport either of these guys to the last Egyptian city. Also, there's a galleon coming up w/ a settler to place on one of those red dots, probably the southern one, and then sail right on through w/ either army. Have fun killing Cleo.

Misfit is UP
Gator is On Deck

Thanks Misfit!

I looks as if you'll be able to pick up an army at the end of the galleon movement on turn 2 and then drop temp off on turn three. On turn four the wicked witch is dead.

There's no way the settler/canal passage will be done more quickly.

Also, nothing in the build queue was a ToE pre-build.

Nicely done JB.

Haven't looked at the save yet but the pics look good.

How do we look for modern age research rate? Are we planning more warring or trying to scale back our unit costs and push our learning?

Grabbing more land through warring seems a bit piggish.

If you want to take some more land just use the Egyptian campaign troops and roll back Alex after our RoP is over.

BTW, all of our flip risk were pretty small. It seems our culture is enough to even overcome those far away cities from jumping back to Cleo or anyone else.

Are you using the newest MapStat? I have not downloaded the newest version of it but I believe that there was some problems with the precentages on the older versions. I'll look into it today. I could not play last night, the in-laws showed up and my computer is in the guest room :( I will try to get to this tonight.
