R&L01 - Monarch Space Race

That's fine Misfit.

For myself, I'll be in skip mode until 11/21 due to RL pressures (B-day, jury duty, big scanning project, Canadian relatives visiting for weekend). So, if I come up, please pass by.

Mistfit made a Thankgiving one for me also.

Cute, Misfit. Very nice.

Not much excitement in this turn set, mostly irrigating.
I have no turn report just a pic and a pass down report...sorry

The Save
Most people post the picture of the wording after the civ has been destroyed. I thought this was a more telling picture. Ding...Dong... :D
Last_Days.jpg

Ok I think I played 12 turns...oops
I ended on 1560AD
We are an IBT away from entering the Modern Age.

The Toe will be built next turn (you can prolong this if you want)
I just thought it would be cool to get 3 tech's at the turn of the age :D
Remember once there to pull the Scientific Civs into the age to see if they get a different free one.

I have a palace prebuild somewhere.

The RoP is up with the greek as of last turn. If you feel froggy...jump.

BTW I moved a stack of workers onto the mainland for cleaning pollution. They are fortified on a mountain.

Looking good.

I should be able to play today.

Nice timing on the ToE.

Now that the witch is dead and the world is a happy place are we going to be working on claiming more territory? Or do we settle into a maximise science mode with what we have?

IMHO we are very near end game and settling 6-10 more towns will not make a big enough difference in the outcome of the game. I personally would look at the unit costs that we have and diband any units that are costing us gpt and go the peaceful route for the remainder of the game. I would also look into setting many of our corrupt towns to wealth and try to maximize specialists to help the economy after they have lib/markets and possibly uni's. I'm not great at this part of the game so take this suggestion with a grain of salt.

Mistfit has a good point. In another SG we played together we realized that shear number of cities doesn't help as much as having real effective ones. We replayed an earlier GOTM trying to beat the best space date. We had 30 more cities than in the game we were trying to beat and we got slightly outresearched by the smaller empire.

I'll take a look before playing, but at this point I think we can turn off military mode and just concentrate on science.

I think to limit the size of our units and unit cost you could add some of our workers into towns that could use 'em. They are right now doing redundant activities. I found myself putting them on things like mining mountains that will never get used just to get them out of my hair.

I concurr on science mode. If the pops are still foreign, we might give away a few cities to create better relations. Now is time to beat the clock, and don't be trapped by a diplo win.

I only played 8 turns after ceding 2 of my turns to the Gentleman from Northern Michigan ;)

Preturn - 1560AD
Switch Seoul & Ulsan from Wealth to Commercial Dock
We have 2 lux deals that will expire in 3 turns, but not with the other 2 sci civs so I will gift them to Modern Age & see what they get

I'll what to conduct audit of our empire until next turn (Modern Age)

IBT - GRK demand we remove forces - I agree and we are auto moved

Turn1 - 1565AD
get "Change of Age" popup - use Big Picture to gift Greece (Rocketry) and Sumeria (Ecology) to Modern Age - then select Fission for use to research

TOE completes - we learn Fission from TOE (we got Rocketry as our turn of Age tech) - use Big Picture again and trade Fission to Sumeria for Ecology - then select Space Flight as our 2nd TOE tech

add last section to our Palace (I think)
luckily we own one of the four sources of aluminum (on the Tundra island) / can't start Apollo until we hook it up

State of our Economy before Audit
max bpt is 1302
Allowed units 140 we have 133 - no need to disband units
We have 352 Happy, 3 content, 48 sad, 2 Entertainers, 7 Tax Collectors, 1 Policeman, 58 Civil Engineers
Quick run through cities - did not change much - a slight increase in bpt with a little less cash

Is Diplo victory condition not selected, because I cannot build the UN?

IBT - MAYA offers 22gpt for spices - sure / renew peace with CELT

Turn 2 - 1570AD
join a few native workers to cities on our main landmass - a volcano has been active so I have saved some to repair the damage

IBT - CELT offer 11gpt for silks - sure

Turn 3 - 1575AD
one of our lux deals expire - renew by trading Electricity and gems to MAYA for incense
volcano by Kaesong stopped
sci down to 80% still in 4 at +gpt - after joining a few more workers - initial core cities all at size 12

IBT - our fur deal expires with ARB - renew for 792gold, 1 gpt, wines, silks, gems & Physics

Turn 4 - 1580AD
worker moves

Turn 5 - 1585AD
aluminum finally hooked up

IBT - MAYA & GRK make nice with each other

Turn 6 - 1590AD
worker moves

Turn 7 - 1595AD
learn Computers set to Miniaturization in 8 turns

did not start any research labs on our main continent because we can build the Internet there and get them for free

Turn 8 - 1600AD
worker moves

Notes to next player
1) SETI completes next turn in Pyongyang start it on Palace prebuild for Internet
2) Wonsan is building Manhattan Project but it can be changed to the Internet also - see which city can build it faster (I think it will be Wonsan)
3) Seoul is building Apollo it will complete in 5 turns then we can start building some parts
4) Just a reminder that civil engineers only increase city improvements not units (I almost made that mistake)
5) We can support 20 more units so I have not disbanded any, except for the few workers I joined to cities
6) At this point I don't see any reason not to automate the workers, using Shift-A, it will help speed up the turns - no major terrain improvements are needed

The 1600AD save

We probably would benefit more from turning the civil engineers in our nether regions into scientists & revenuers rather than have them continue to work on infrastructure. I just don't think there's enough time left in this game to be able to extract the value from those builds.

If those corrupt cities have a library then it's almost certain that it's beneficial to have them doing research and set the build queue to anything you would like.

I was changing some to scientist but it was not enough to shave off a turn so I put them back. Agree on the corrupt cities. I think I was trying to make sure they had a harbor, library and aqueduct if close to size 6. I was also finding that our beakers and taxes generated were higher with the citizens working than by creating specialist, probably due to our commercial and scientific traits.

Good turns Gator!
The only improvements that could be made now on our homeland is to chack through our core cities and see if we are wasting and food now that we are at size 12 in those cities. I know I mined a few plains to get Seoul optimized but I'm not sure I checked through the rest of the cities. I'm Ok with turning the workers on auto.

Do we want to wait until tomorrow for R&L or does someone have time to pick it up today?

I think it would be OK if Detlef or rrau could play today, then Row could grab it tomorrow.

Well I can't play tonight as I just got back from a 13hr road trip to see my alma mater win a NCAA div II game and am beat.

I'm back now, and will grab it tonight.
