R&L01 - Monarch Space Race

@Detlef Richter - do you have it?

If neither of you grab this soon I will since I have a free day today.

Nevermind, my free time to pick this up is past. I'll sit on the sidelines until the others finish.

JB, My turns were posted late on the 4th, past his got it but still within his time to play. Why don't you drop Detlef a quick PM, he was online this morning. Then check with rrau about switching, if you ask nicely she probably will :). If Detlef hasn't responded by this evening and rrau agrees I say grab it and have fun.

Well, since I haven't heard from Detlef Richter, I went ahead and played

preturn (470ad)

ibt fortified 2hp reg spear defeats 3 hp archer :)

turn 1 (480ad)

had bad rng luck against Kish, almost all horses were redlined and lost one - retreat for healing

turn 2 (490ad)

continue retreat

ibt :WW starts and get another story to our palace at the same time :crazyeye:

turn 3 (500ad)

position for attack on Kish next turn

ibt: Arabs settled on the island to the north

turn 4 (510ad)

Capture Kish (with 2 settlers) without loss of troops. Met Greece. They are down construction, CoL, Lit and only have 5 g

ibt: Greece demanded Removal of DragoonSlayer from their waters, but unfortunately they sank in trecherous waters before they could move :(

turn 5 (520ad)

Rushed settler in Erect

turn 6 (530ad)

Abandoned Erect
Almost lost our fully healed army against a vet Enkindu warrior

turn 7 (540ad)

settled Ch'ongfu

turn 8 (550ad)

not much

ibt: learned Gunpowder and start Theology

turn 9 (560ad)

killed an Enkindu that wandered into our territory

ibt: picked up Chivalry from TGL

turn 10 (570ad)

Stupid mistake: I thought I was upgrading a vet horse, but instead loaded him into our army :(

There's a galley in Ulsan, waiting for the settler that's heading there. Ulsan's currently building a musket to accompany the settler

Sounds good, I haven't looked at the save yet.

Don't worry about the horse in army. We just won't be able to transport that army until we get galleons. We should more armies before that time.

The more cities we have the more commerce and sci beakers we generate, even in largely corrupt cities by using scientist. So I think we will continue to war. I'd start putting a fleet of galleys together so we can claim some cities on the next landmass with knights. Eventually we will want control of all 8 luxes if we can manage that and we need to make sure we own enough land to have the required resources show up.

Unless I see signs of life from Detlef I'll grab this evening.

That's up to JB, but I don't have a problem with switching. Unless Detlef has actually grabbed it (although that seems unlikely).

Hi all! I'm back, although unable to grab it quite yet. I'll just grab when I come around next. From reading through it all, you've all been doing a very nice job!

A few points from my perspective:
- As you agreed, definitely keep the research going, as we're going for space.
- Keeping the army back for defense would've been my suggestion, so a 3rd unit isn't a problem. In any case, accidents happen.
- Defintely still REX, but coming to the end. Probably should take Sumer completely out soon.
- Very wise all around to keep avoiding Egypt. Glad the theme is being held up.

Roster -

Turn research up to 70% and pull entertainment to 20%. MM cities for happiness.
Education in two turns at this level.
About 10% of our population are specialists but pushing up entertainment and putting them to work does nothing for us due to offsets with corruption and taxmen.

Attack of Bad-Tibira
  • Knight kills e-warrior
  • Knight kills e-warrior and takes the city.

Despite saying we needed more units/defenders on the northern island I transported a total of.... zero!

Excellent turns. It looks like the RNG was fickle in places, but you overcame it :goodjob:

The RNG was selectively fickle "medieval" on our elite units.

:rotfl: I needed a good laugh, thanks. (at least I assum you are referring to a saying about getting medieval on your ___)

Hi Knee

Sounds like a good turnset.
