Raliuven SG3.5 Regent

Looks like I'm too late to join. I'll sign in as a lurker though. I'm a Regent player, although I've been testing the waters of Monarch.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd say you're still welcome to join, Verarde. After all, the whole point of this SG is to attract some newer players to SGs!

Well, if ya'll would have me, I would like to join.

Not a problem at all.

With you and Toxicman007, that puts two Regent players on the team. But don't worry, you'll both do fine.

Not too late at all verarde! I completely agree with Elephantium and CommandoBob. I am very happy you decided to join! :D

Toxicman007 - sorry, my bad. :smoke: Since you joined the AWE I thought you were an Emperor level player. I am certainly glad you joined both, though! Maybe you announced this in RSG3 and my selective vision didn't pick up on it. ;)

So here is the Roster:

Raliuven (Playing)
Toxicman007 (on deck)
CommandoBob (warming up)
Elephantium
Verarde

Does that look good or should we swap Elephantium and Verarde? I wil also admit that the opening save is not 100% legit because I made sure we were on a river and there are nearby food sources for a SF. I do not know the entire map. But I do have a little bit of forbidden knowledge.

For that reason I will make the opening move to settle as the group sees fit. I believe we have one tenative vote for the hills to the SW, crossing the river. I can't start play until tomorrow night, so feel free to post advice.

I will play the first 20 turns and then we will move through the list at 10 turns apiece. Any opinions on starting techs or builds? Warrior/Warrior/???

I think I'd settle in place.

Starting techs: Aim for the Republic slingshot :)

Builds: Two or three Warriors and then a Settler. The ideal timing is to pop the Settler on the turn we grow the capital to size 3.

Feel free to swap me around in the roster. I'll revert to Lurker status if necessary to clear a place for another newer player :)

Thanks for having me guys. Without looking at the save, I think we have either two options. Settle in place, or the SW hill. The hill would give us a good amount of production for the early game, which would be helpful if we're interested in going for Conquest. SiP would allow us to have eventual more production coming out of that hill, and you never know if there is an Iron or other resource on that hill that we could use for even more production.

I think our decision rests upon what type of victory we are looking for. If Conquest, then my vote is for the hill. If other, SiP.

edit: x-post with Elephantium. Yeah, Republic slingshot is my bet as well. Alphabet->Writing->Code of Laws->Philosophy and take the Republic as the free tech, right?

And agreed on the settler. Use first warrior to explore, maybe next to defend, and the third to escort the settler?

Do we need a quick discussion on victory condition?

From the OP I prefer (but I am not limiting us to) in order of preference:
Conquest, Domination, Space, Diplomacy

I enjoy Space, and Diplo is not a favorite of mine. Conquest is fine with me.

I prefer a nice, peaceful world; full of Babylonian citizens, Babylonian cities and Babylonian culture.

So...kill all the rest. :trouble:

Yeah, I'm Regent, but I don't play too much anymore anyway. I could probably move on to Emperor by now, but I just don't feel like playing.

Okay, so it sounds like we are going to war! At least up to 65% of the map if we want to be kind and let the other AIs witness a space launch. So I have a vote to move, a vote not a move and Verarde is contingent on the VC. If we are going head hunting his vote seems to swing towards moving to the hill.

I'll check back before I play tonight to make sure but my goal in the first 20 turns will be to move to the hill to settle. I will have the worker start a mine as there is nothing better within range. Then road. I will turn out a few warriors and start on alpha. As this is regent with roaming barbs I'll be sending beginning warriors out to scout our location and I will not immediately garrison the capital. IIRC we get 2 happy content citizens at regent so we won't need any MPs until size 3 and all the river tiles should make for some nice commerce anyway.

Sounds good to me. Will you be mining the starting tile, or the gold hill?

I'll be mining the grass first, it will be a while before we work the gold. Right now what we need most is growth so we can put out our second city.

Update:

4000 BC – per discussion, move settler to hill and see another river and some BG. Also see a GH. They are too far away for the moment so I start a mine.

RSG35FirstMove.jpg

3950 BC – Found Babylon. Set to BG and start a warrior. Start Alpha at max. Still 50t but that will change.

3900 BC – zzzz
3850 BC – zzzz
3800 BC – zzzz

3750 BC – Mine will be made next turn, MM back to grass on river. Research drops to 37t. Warrior due in 1t.

3700 BC – Babylon: Warrior=>Warrior. Warrior #1 moves towards GH. Worker roads mine.

3650 BC – As this is regent, I take a chance and grab the GH. Warrior #1 to GH1 – Pottery! That was nice.

3600 BC – Warrior to mountain. And the picture changes again.

This is as far as I got in my pregame search and I followed essentially the same pattern except I did not move my city.

3550 BC – Road is done and I decide to road towards the cow to the NE. Warrior #2 is almost done and he will go north to the hill+gold first and then continue scouting. Therefore I send Warrior #1 to the south.

3500 BC – Worker roads grass.

3450 BC – Babylon: Warrior=>Settler (growth in 10, settler in 10). Cultural borders expand. Warrior #1 towards southern mountain. Warrior #2 goes east instead and will head northeast. Culture expansion shows coast to the N. It seems unlikely we have a civ to our northwest. Never know.

3400 BC – Warrior #2 goes to east to hill and now we see 2 cows. Looks like a SF and a WF?

3350 BC – Worker finishes road. Need to get water to those cows to the NE. I also want to make a way for water to get to the other game & cows so I am going to move back toward the grass framed by the hill, forest mountain.

3300 BC – Worker starts road.

3250 BC – zzzz
3200 BC – zzzz

3150 BC – Worker finishes road, start irrigation.

3100 BC – zzzz
3050 BC – Warrior #1 on mountain to the west finds GH2. Warrior #2 is scouting the cow & game area.

Workers: 1
Warriors: 2
Settler due in 2t

So long as nobody has any complaints, I'd like to take it first. I can be done today, as I already have to take my turn of RSG3, and I may as well kill two birds with one stone.

Wow, this is looking really good so far. Those bonus grasslands will be a help, and the cows+game are very nice. If we're lucky, perhaps there's some fish near those double cows! Plus Pottery from the GH, that's always welcome.

Well other than having no luxuries. :) But there are plains to the south so maybe they have some nice ivory for us.

Just an FYI - I am out of town until Saturday and will probably have zero connection to the internet. Please continue on without me and I will check in on Saturday night (hopefully).

The Roster (if no objections):

Raliuven (just played)
Toxicman007 (Playing)
CommandoBob (on deck)
Verarde (warming up)
