Allright, I'm a noob.
And, thats why I'm posting this.
I'd like to learn how to play (proper), so I thought, maybe I'd rip off those challenges that I like and get you to comment on what I should do next, all while learning valuable game skills.

So here I am.
My first question is: What should my game settings be?

Allright, heres my start.
Civ002.jpg

I'm Ghandi, but the pink should alert you to that.
It is OK, corn.. I'm thinking move the warrior 1 northeast

If you want advice, then there'll usually be someone here who'll help you out, but you need to give people something to focus on: a specific question, a screenshot or save, etc. As it was, your post didn't really offer the reader anything to go on.

What difficulty level are you playing at?

Which civs/leaders/traits do you prefer, and why?

What are your first builds and techs?

Which wonders (if any) and buildings do you tend to go for?

How often do you like to go to war?

What kind of victory do you usually pursue?

Throw in the answers to some of these questions (or similar ones), and you should get a better response, not least from people pointing out what they see as the flaws in your game. :)

playing on noble or prince? If your gonna play from advice on this board anything lower than noble would be too easy imo. I would sugest Continents and most other setings standard if this is one of your first games. If your not sure what leader to pick just pick random. you can also have random settings if you want. they dont differ that much acnyways.

Ramarawr: do you know how to post saves and screenshots? Its going to be difficult for anyone to follow your game without them.

Screenshots
a free account at a place like http://www.photobucket.com. There you can easily upload your images.
2. In the game press the Print scrn button to take a screenshot.
3. In photobucket select the screenshot and upload.
4. Below the uploaded image in photobucket there is a tag, copy this tag.
5. Paste the [img] tag into your post.

[U]Savegame[/U]
The save game can be attached to your post with the normal forum features.
1. Press attachments icon.
2. Browse for the savegame and upload.
3. In the post press the attachments icon again and select the savegame.
4. It will be attached to your post.

I do, I use imageshack and my private host for my art, but yes.

Another note, when taking screenshots, turning on the resource bubbles really really helps.

As far as advice, for the first time ever, I'm going to advocate moving the settler. I think that City has far too many ocean tiles. Moving 1E will still make a coastal City, and still works the fish.

Allright, will do for next.
All there is in that screenie is fish clams and corn.

What techs does ghandi start with? mysticism and mining? turn on resource bubles as he allready said. No hills nearby thats bad since you'll be low on production and you can't use the worker for anything usefull with your starting techs. That said i would still tech bronze working first while working the corn and building a warrior. I assume it is normal speed? Last turn before growing a pop you can swich to working a plains forest so you get exactly right amount of food to grow to size 2 production. Then work 2 forested plains until the warrior is done(i think it is 1 turn). Then start on a worker. Once you get BW swich to slaver asap and whip the worker as soon as possible. Starting on agriculture right afterwards will let you farm the corn. Meanwhile your worker can chop forests for your setler(so it get done quicker. After AG research fishing so you can build a workboat while growing. Hopefully you can use the worker to help the second city by mining/farming and choping up a monument if needed.

Another option is to go for relgion early while building a warrior to grow then snag worker techs while building a worker the normal way or get fishing and just build boats before getting out your first setler.

Other ppl might have ideas too but its your game.

Might be worth moving warrior south before moving settler; if you got more resources down there then settler one south will still give you seafood and corn; otherwise as Softnum said move one east.
Fishing sounds a good starting tech (build warrior while waiting for fishing then a couple of workboats while city grows). Maybe research BW after fishing.

I would recommend that you invest a bit more of yourself before pitching questions to the gallery.

Specifically, I think you should be writing everything you can that is relevant to the position when you post: everything you know, everything you think you know, everything you think ought to be true, what conclusions you reach from those, what questions you know are hanging open, and your best guess at the answers to those questions.

From there, players can identify what you don't know, or what you know that's wrong, and show you how to improve your game from there.

Putting the same statement another way, these sorts of games usually fall into one of three types:
1) here's a position, tell me what to do
2) here's a position, tell me what mistakes I made
3) here's a position, help me identify the errors in my thinking that are leading to my mistakes.

Your game will get a lot better a lot faster if you keep the third type in mind. Also, you're more likely to get superior feedback as (1) people will be more inclined to invest of themselves when you've done the same first (2) people will be more inclined to contribute because it doesn't feel like the same "do all the work for me" threads that pop up every week, and (3) because your investment has made the thread personal, the responses you get will be particularly appropriate for correcting your own weaknesses, rather than those of a generic author.

Beyond that, recognize that if you are a Noob, then your weaknesses are almost certainly going to be in grasping the big strategic ideas, rather than in micro-optimization. In other words, fretting over the specifics of improving your start by moving inland, or micro-optimizing the sequencing of settling and precisely which square is the warrior's first destination is the wrong focus to have. You should instead be thinking about "how does Ghandi best start with three food resources and seven forrests".

I've got to agree with VoU. The most succesful audience participation games (ALC, EMC) have a lot of input from the player in terms of their ideas of how to proceed, both in terms of long term strategy and immediate tactics.

Still not clear what level you're playing, what map script, game speed etc. Posting the settings screen would help.

What I've always thought would be an interesting learning tool is if several people played the same game for X turns, then compared outcomes, and noobs could ask why certain choices were made, such as city placement, or such. Then the 'best' save could be picked, and continue on for X more turns.

I think that has the best of both worlds. The director of the game could say 'OK, in the next 25 Turn we need to Found X more cities, or whatever. Or whatever. And the noobs could each play the games, and the instructor(s) would post what each didn't, and maybe what would be good / bad / indifferent. ANd discussions could be held, etc.

Softnum: check out P666 Trash series in succession games forum.

Yeah, that's kinda what I had in mind. XD

No, go ahead and play and follow VoU plan. Tell us what you want to do, what you know. Start with the question what are you going to do with Ghandi, 3 food resources and some forests. Is this warlords btw or vanilla?

Aslo post the setings screen.

Warlords patched, here is the settings screen..
Civ002-1.jpg

I'm not sure what I would do with Ghandi and 3 food/forests, I want to win the game really..

I feel its a little hard to figure out what I want to do on the first turn..

I'm just sayin'
Sorry :x
