I saw Rammstein live for the first time yesterday. I can only say it was the coolest concert I've ever been to. They had all kinds cool stuff. During the song Mein Teil they had like this huge pot, and the leadsinger was boiling it with a flamethrower, while the keyboard player was sitting in it, playing. And that was just the scene act for one of the songs!

So anybody else have seen Rammstein live?

Yeh I saw them in Febuary at Brixton acdemy in london and I am seeing them again in Cardiff on the 18th (so a week today :D ).

Indeed they are the masters of the live show! FLAMETHROWERS!!!! SOOOOOO GOOD! One of the best shows I have ever seen. I am looking forward to next week :D

Here's a pic of rammstein live, i think it is from the gig I went to, as the gig got reviewed in magazines and I think they used this pic....

What are their names? I might know 'em (if they from bath)

By the way do you ever go out in Bath (as in hobgoblin, discord, seven)?

If yiu have the chance to see them life, do so. Even if you do not really love their music, the show is anyway worth it. Seen them once in Germany Hurricane festival- they kick a...!

I like their songs, but some German I know told me the lyrics is a complete rubbish. Is that true?

Look for yourself....

I think they have very good lyrics :)

Ich komm wieder
in zehn Tagen
als dein Schatten
und werd dich jagen

(I will return
in ten days
as your shadow
and I will hunt you down)

From Asche zu Asche

Depends really. Some lyrics are really not as well IMO. Same as any band else. Others are very good though.
But some meaning are also very hard to get for not native Germans.

Well I know 30 words in German to start with :p. So I guess I will continue to listen to them in public anyways... Danke...

EDIT: Just read some of the translations.... beginning to reconsider. The music is good however.

Yeh, like 'Du hast' has a double meaning of 'you hate' and 'you have'. Being non-German some of them are confusing till I go read German explanations of them!

Most of the German i know comes from listening to Rammstein

BUCK DICH! :mischief:

Good example, they often play with double-meanings.

Besides: Ich buecke mich nicht :p

Their show is great, but the text is terrible. Almost childish rhyme schemes at times, but you need to get used to it. It is part of delivering simple messages.

Denn, du bist,
was du isst.

Because you are
what you eat.

It does rhyme in German, unfortunately not in the translation. Often they pair cynical text passages with little children rhymes, giving a stark contrast to a harsh and very clear, direct message.

It seems to me that Rammstein is more popular abroad than in Germany.

I get the feeling is because few people speak German outside Germany :p
Seriously I came to liking a lot of songs less once I understood their lyrics.

I think they are pretty popular in Germany as well. The last album was on #1 for quite some time. What is remarkable about them is their success abroad which is far greater than that of any other German speaking band. Very probably because their use of the language (and the music) strongly alludes to the stereotype.

And I'd really like to see them live. Never did so far. And didn't go to the Hurricane this year, would have been a nice opportunity to catch both them and System of a Down. :undecide:

I'd love for them to come down to Oz ... that special gas flame effect looks pretty farout ... a pyros wet dream ... I have the album with Mutter on it ... I like it very much ... and the clip with the bent snow white and seven dwarfs blew me away when I saw it ...
