Probably why I never heard of them if they're grunge.
they're more metal i think than grunge. i mean, if you like Rammstein then i would think that some Alice in Chains stuff would be right up your alley :)

ADDIT: the lead singer (Layne Staley) was one of a kind imo

I rock out to some Rammstein every once in while. My favorite songs are Engel and Heirate Mich.

i forget which song i was playing but this one time i had a Rammstein song cranked up while fiddling on my PC in my basement. my wife came to the top of the stairs and she had this look on her face like she just saw Satan! it was priceless!

I like Rammstein.

I thought they took their name from the literal german meaning, which is "battering ram"

Also, their song, "Rammstein, Rammstein", tends to me to sound much more like a song about a battering ram than an air show disaster.

I have seen footage of one of their concerts. They had an old Cher concert set, (she had two lifesize battleship turrets onher set, I think they bought it when she was done with her tour, and used them liek they should be... and not as gay sailor magnets) and he was uber-buff... looked like a wrestler. In another footage clip I saw, the singer was dressed like a Borg, and he had a red light over his eye that shot out into the crowd like a laser... pretty showy stuff. :)

I think alot of peopel associated them with "nazis" simply because they sang dark German music. Of course, any understanding of any lyrics lets you knwo they aren't really Nazis, but they are pretty sick in the head. :P

EDIT: BTW, Rammstein is best classified as industrial rock.

In fact the lyrics are about the air show disaster

Not only - there was a video clip of them ( IIRC it was striped, a cover version of the depech mode song ) where they used material from a nazi propaganda film ( the Leni Riefenstahl film about the olympic games 1936 ) - maybe that was a reason for some to believe they are close to neo nazis, but IMO that was just provocation.

I like their music too :)

I don't think Rammstein means battering ram, not in any german I've heard of. that would more be Rammbock, or something like that. literally it would mean ram stone/rock, but that makes absolutely no sense.
