Hot green tea with ginger and honey is my drink of choice for a sore throat. Doesn't help cure it obviously. Nothing does. But it's a nice relief while the immune system does it's work.
Also I woke up at 9.30, but only made it to 12 pm before needing to go back to bed.
But bed feels extra good for now. Fortunately I'm only working Tues and weekends at the moment, so it should clear up by Saturday if I spend 3 days in bed.

I swear by that too, although I use ordinary black tea or Earl Grey. It does a lot for the symptoms - the hot, ginger steam is good to open your nose up, the heat on the back of your throat helps to clear off the rubbish, and the sugar gives your system a little bit of a boost. I also put lemon in mine; the acid/vitamin C seems to be beneficial. That gives it practically the same ingredients (minus the paracetamol) of a commercial Lemsip-type thing, and I usually have tea, lemons, honey and ginger around the house anyway
Lots of chocolate and sugar aren't the best for you when you're ill: the energy release comes at once, and you'll start feeling worse shortly afterwards. It also sucks water out of your system, and one of the most important things when you have a cold is to keep hydrated: this aside, it gives you a headache and generally makes you feel feeble.
Rant: sitting at work sick as a dog because I can't call in sick the day before a holiday without sacrificing my holiday pay too, so calling in sick today would have meant 3 days worth of wages. Meanwhile, all the managers and higher ups are ducking out early while sending out emails reminding us that we're here until the end of the day. At times like this I feel like I can understand why some people come to the conclusion that communism is a good idea.
