Embrace chaos.
Given that you say your life is chaos, I am tempted to interpret this as you finally coming out and asking for a hug.
Nope. It's not extreme at all. The only problem is finding enough shelf space.

So if you're ever annoyed with me, blame my mother. :p
Son of a–
I need to buy a new laptop. My old Dell m1530 has served me very well but is now showing it's age. It's still quite snappy to work with but Vista is no longer a viable OS to linger in. And upgrading to Win10 will more than likely come with plenty of driver woes for this set of hardware. Pluss I'd have to pay for the OS upgrade. Saving money is hard when you keep buying stuff though.
Linux!

:nono:

First off, I'm nobody's "son."

Secondly, in many ways my mother was not a nice person and we were estranged for many years. But she did have her good points and taught me some useful life skills - reading and printing among them.

It was a pune, or play on wordes.

What software is it?
I'd deffo need the TI-Nspire CX CAS math software. Don't think it's on Linux. Like it or not, pour moi, windows is the name of the game. What? Oh, don't mention it, Bill, you're welcome.

I think this is a good metric for people to use when counting books. I approve.

I can't be bothered to actually count, but I took a shelf that looked typical, counted it, and multiplied by the shelves, and it looks like I'm in Kyr's neighborhood: ballpark 694 more than Vincour.

I might have anywhere from 25 to 75 Vin.

Takhisis, please. I recognize that intellectually, but given some of the family history I've mentioned on the forum and in the now-destroyed social groups, this "pun" really wasn't funny.

After taking a long count, it transpires that I have a lot more books than I thought I did. Counting all my gamebooks, role-playing books (both chunky and skinny), trade paperbacks, heavy-duty reference works and the like, I have around 1,040 books (and that's not counting the various books I donate back to my local charity shop).

So Kafka doesn't count then..?

The comic version doesn't (there are a number of those) ;)

Gamebooks and comic books are not books.
Only real books should be counted :yup:
They are real books.

Some people don't think anthologies should count as "real books" because the short stories have usually already been published elsewhere first. That's not my opinion, but I think you get the point...?

A book is a book that has pages and words written on, no matter if it be by pen, by printer, or on a screen. Nothing more, and nothing less.

That would mean that catalogues are books, though, which isn't consistent with ordinary usage.

I think a "book" might just be whatever people describe as a "book"

Of course books weren't always in the shape we think of now when we talk about books. Every time I'm reading historical fiction and a character mentions buying, reading, or writing a book, I have to remind myself that it's really a scroll.

And if you're a dog, the neighborhood fire hydrant is the equivalent of the daily newspaper.
