Random Rants Two

I hate daylight savings time. Why the hell does everything need to be an hour earlier in summer, it messes me up almost as much as all-nighters.

Hmm... I have a similar rant:

After you travel 17 hours (by plane 11, waiting in the airport 2, by plane another 2, and by train taxi and foot another 2) and you find yourself in a place where the timezone is 10 hours different, and you get only 4.5 hours of sleep you find out you need to play in a concert only 9 hours after you arrive.

That's horrible. Add having a cold and being extremely tired.

Just happened to me ~5 days ago.

On the bright side of that, you can sleep on the planes.

You always seem to see the bands that get booed. First Styx, now Loverboy? Remind me never to take you to a VH concert.
And Prince before the Stones at LA Colloseum. Loverboy played in front of the Go Go's and The Police. They deserved it.

Now for a rant, my lower back has been spasming for the last five hours. It's pretty hard to stand up straight. Haven't had it like this since August 2005, when I was walking around hunched over because my muscles locked up so badly. Damn lumbar area....

And it's still here! If there are ever times to take the Lord's name in vain, this would be one!

Which was already going so well for you and all other Colorado sports fans.

Oh yeah. Rockies - lost world series
Broncos - would be dead if Elam were injured, missing top RB and top WR, all offense, 3-3, 3rd in AFC West beating ONLY THE RAIDERS...
Colorado Mammoth - NLL season cancelled
Colorado State Rams (1-7), North Colorado Bears (0-8), Colorado Buffaloes (5-4), all other Colorado Universities - no chance. Buffaloes beat North Colorado in overtime, ending all hope of them doing well when it takes OT to beat a winless team.

THAT LEAVES THE COLORADO AVALANCHE AND THE DENVER NUGGETS.

GO AVS!

Cheer up Yank, I just read 10 minutes ago that if you get both a CFA and an MBA you will haul in on average $255,000 a year. Surely you could afford a decent chiropractor with that?

Cha-Ching! :D

I remember feeling some relief when using the chiropractic services on the high school's dime. Then I went out and kept making my pinched nerves worse each week in football...only to return. :)

May just be some leftover from that lovely injury in my lower back from 2002, but I get through everything. If I managed to stand and wait for a bus home for 40 minutes yesterday, I can manage going 20 feet to the kitchen to get mac & cheese.

But, I got to start somewhere. May be something as little as that Ameriprise sales type job that may be on the table next year for nowhere near $255,000, but it'll get there. Eventually.

Bah, I'm still waiting to hear back for the entry job at my local newspaper's finance department.

You must really like Minneapolis huh? I'll trade you, Midwest for Northeast.

Minneapolis is much cheaper. It'll give me a little bit of time to save up, get work, throw money into that 401(k) (especially if there's any type of matching program), get a house for less money than I pay in rent here, even with 100% financing, and build up. I'll likely be heading back to New York after that, but considering that I doubt any offers here would offset the advantages that I can have there, I'm going to go for it.

That and I have my ball and chain there.

And finally, New York's competition is fierce. Enough so that many companies would only consider people with experience in that field for three or five years. If I can do the same thing on my thinner resume (since, hey, I'm only 22 and I took up odd jobs off and on), then that's where I go.

And I really want out of this apartment building.

I'm going to want to kill myself when the first winter comes...but I'll live with it.

Well damn, see if you can snag me a job too!

Get the CFA and I'm pretty sure there will be no job issues.

Go apply at Ameriprise 11 months before you say you can start.

I believe I'd have to get a Series 7 and a Series 63 license, but they have the paid classes for it.

Of course, there hasn't been any formal interviews or the like, but the call back was quite promising. I'll still be applying to other positions if I think I can take them, but it is definitely a confidence builder.

HID headlights. Blasted things should be outlawed. What's so wrong with the good old fashioned yellowish lights rather than this hideous blue-white blinders?

I cannot stand the headlights that are so damn bright that it nearly blinds everyone that is coming head on.

I've missed buses because I've been blinded by such lights and thought the approaching bus was different than the one I needed.

I don't know why people in NYC, of all places, need to put on their brights.
