Random Rants Two

What an interesting statement... IMO this is why your country is going straight to hell.
Before anyone takes offense, this is a subtle reference to the great movie that is 'American Beauty'.
And also I'm under the impression that you are American. Sorry if I'm wrong.
Seriously now, don't you think there is a problem when violence, gore, blood and murders are 'OK' ? Whereas nudity and sex, our natural state and the mechanism by which humans are made, are not ?

Yep, I'm American. Props on the American Beauty reference, great movie. But I don't think it means our country is going straight to hell.

I personally don't think that sex is worse, or perhaps even as bad as violence. My parents were just really, really strict about what I saw and what I played, listened to, who I hung out with, everything. I think sex they just saw as crude or uncomfortable, I dunno. I love them dearly, but sometimes it got a little annoying when everyone is talking about this sweet new movie or game, and when they ask me how I felt, I have to explain to them I can't see or play it.

Nevertheless, I played mature games at friends houses sometimes and looked up porn since probably about 14. And I only turned out partially messed up.

Yeah OK, the 'straight to hell' part was a bit over the top, but I was thinking about American Beauty at the time, so there it went.
Eran made a good reply and yours is OK, too.
It's not meant as a criticism, but I'm just curious as to why sex is somehow worse than violence (or pretend-sex and pretend-violence). More to the point, it seems to me that in American (or western tbh) culture, violence is more 'natural' than sex. And I'm not talking about hardcore porn (which is a kind of violence), but just soft, casual, sexy, R rated sex.

Can someone please explain to me whose idea it was to give statistics tests at 8:00 in the morning? On a Friday? On the Friday before Thanksgiving break, no less?

I mean seriously, what kind of professor thinks to himself, "I want to teach undergraduates how to do statistics. Further, I want to do this at 8:00 in the morning." Yeah, that'll go over real well.

Or maybe I should have switched into a later section. :hmm:

Either way, I have to get up frickin early, and that will likely compromise my score.

8? they can do that? We can't have anthing earleir than 9

I wasn't allowed to listen to explicit lyrics either.

R rated movies it depended. If it was just violence or swearing I could watch once I had turned 16. Sex or nudity was a no go.

Well, with the music it's really more of a "Don't ask, don't tell" thing:lol:
So yep, it really gets on my nerves.

Anyway I just had a girl say this to me "question would you get mad if i was like not all over you but liked hugged all over you and held your hand?"
right after I asked her what movi she wanted to see and she said it didn't matter cause w probably wouldn't be watching it anyway... I said 'good point' and she says that... I basicaly said k, but I have no idea what she was trying to say lol... So I think that's a rant, but I have no idea lol...:crazyeye:

Yep, the earliest start time is 8:10. I've got that three days per week, and 9:10 the other two days. It's criminal.

Next semester doesn't look much better, but at least I'll be out by 11:00 every day.

I've had management exams at 7 AM.

I also had a six-hour long accounting final exam.

That sucks soo much ass i am glad i am English.. and as educated as i'll need to be :)

Everyone in my American Government class thought Ron Paul was a name I came up with for a presidential candidate!

(Personally, I didn't really care, but I was mad at their ignorance.)

How old are you?

bah, clicking on profiles? how does that add to my postcount?

The stupidity of his class, if the situation is not exxagerated astounds me.

OK, so Blazing Saddles was on TV last night, and I was watching part of it for about a half-hour. It is definitely one of my favorite movies, and one of my most-quoted ones. "Mongo only pawn in game of life."

But really, why even bother trying to put this on network TV? It was a complete hatchet job. They chopped so much out of the movie. They made "Lily von Shtupp" into "Lily von Sh..." Oh, come on.

I was pleasantly surprised that they left in the sequence:
"Rape, arson, murder, rape."
"You said 'rape' twice."
"I like rape."

The also left in "Hey, where da white women at?" I guess that's OK, but for God's sake, don't use the N-word. We have to have big gaps of, "Would it cheer you up some if me and the boys were to shoot that - - - - - - dead fer ya?" Or worse yet, when the town guy says, "OK, we'll take the niggers and the chinks, but no Irish!" we cut straight to "...no Irish." It's not as funny that way.

What's the big deal about the n-word? In case you haven't noticed, Blazing Saddles makes fun of racism and bigotry. This is the same as the idiots who want to have Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn banned as books because they have the n-word in them, when in reality, those books were instrumental in pointing out the evils of slavery and racism.

Wake up, people! We have come so far down the road that we are not allowing Santa to say, "Ho, ho, ho!" because it might offend some women. WHAT!?!? (Google "Sydney Santa Ho" if you haven't seen the news story.)

OK, enough complaining. I'm off to go put on the real DVD of Blazing Saddles and laugh my posterior off.

Hahaha!

What were you thinking when you picked that?!

I clearly wasn't...

lol @ IB.

Good luck to the class of 2008! Everything gets easier after you send in the applications. Work hard for just a bit longer, and you can relax after January 3rd or so (or whenever the apps are due this year).

Then, of course, prepare well for the AP/IB exams in May (are IB exams in May? ), and you get to fret all summer over the results.

But seriously, good luck to all those applying this year.

I just had my mid-term exams...actually I had half of my mid-term exams, the remainder are next week. The mid-terms will determine the predicted grades we send to university. So in the coming week I will be determining my future...joy.

Yeh IB exams are in May, my final exams end on May 22nd and then I can never work again. Never ever again.

It's allright, I asked a roomfull of Conneticut Yankees what they thought of Ron Paul two weeks ago at a party. Not a single one out of 12 had heard of him.
