Rave: I accidentally misread the above as ‘google ketchup’. Gave me a nice smile.

The council is going to change the local lampposts to white LED lamps, rather the red/orange sodium ones we have now. Apparently, these should be more efficient and should produce a cleaner light with less light pollution, which sounds like a win-win situation.

This is great news! I wish more places did this, especially rural areas.

Is it good to change from yellowish light to stark white?

I live in a semi-rural area as it is, so the difference could be quite large. The letter they sent round says that the white light improves visibility and makes people feel safer, so I look forward to reporting back in a month or so on what it's like in practice. :)

Oh, my condolences. Before I last moved I lived in a place where the mayor decided to do such a thing with exactly the same arguments. I ended up having to close the windows and roll down the blinds in order not to be blinded by the bloody things.

Yeah for he first year I kept thinking it was dawn every time I saw the front windows at night. It'd be like midnight. Nighttime lights should be reddish and dim.

Sounds like the people responsible for the lighting switch-over for both of you didn't get the improved fixtures. The light shouldn't be shining in your windows at all.

Well, politicians were involved.

Edit: at least in my case, and very probably in Hygro's as well.

Shouldn't.

I have the same problem, except I still have sodium lights blasting through the windows.

We have those plutonium lights, which gives off a nice green haze. Even when turned off.

I got up super early for a launch and was not disappointed. Our first flight out of the old Apollo/Shuttle pad was a success - as was the landing. :)

There's a really annoying street light from the next block that shines right into my bedroom window. Thankfully I live toward the far end of the main parking lot here where the management company vehicles are parked, so nobody ever bothered fixing the light stand in the parking lot below my window. It's been burned out for the last two years, and hopefully they never will fix it.

If we ever have a neighborhood power outage on a clear night, I am going to do so much stargazing...

Reading Xenofōn Zolōtas' speeches is a lot of fun. ^_^

Woke up at 11 and ate some leftover Chinese food. Was gonna go to the DMV for the final task to get my old volvo on the road, then buy shoes and headphones. Instead I slept until 6pm and I feel soooooo good.

My new headphones sound soooo good.
