Random Thoughts XV: Temere Cogito, Ergo . . .

Golly! What with those cutthroat manure prices, it’s amazing they were ever able to open their doors at all.
On August 21, 1991, Knob Hill Farms opened a terminal in Cambridge, Ontario, the first outside the Greater Toronto Area. The terminal measured 340,000 square feet (31,500 square metres), making it the largest food retail store in the world. It was estimated that the terminal saw over 20,000 customers on opening day, with hour long lines and traffic jams surrounding the store. The store featured 5,250 ft (1,600 m) of refrigeration units, a 500 ft (150 m) meat counter and 1,500 parking spaces

For scale, that is more than double the size of the average Walmart Supercenter and six times the size of a Kmart.

So half a Costco, then?

I was just joking. Costco sells products in the largest sizes, so I was pretending the store itself had to be big. My local Walmart is larger than the nearest Costco.

This old TV jingle from I think the early 2000’s just popped into my head for no reason. It lives deep in the recesses of my brain, wherever, unrecognized for ages, only to suddenly return triumphantly temporarily and without fanfare.

It’s not even really a pop cultural reference that carries any water. It’s just a jingle for a service I don’t need, lodged in some neuron or something, there to sit and occupy that little bit of space that, were I a more productive person, could have been useful knowledge.
