Random Thoughts XV: Temere Cogito, Ergo . . .

The Weather Channel has a program called "Weather Unfiltered."

When was weather ever filtered? What is there to filter in weather?

Yeah, I guess that's true. I doubt that could be the basis for a one-hour show, though.

Also, like, the more I think about it, if there had been some "filtering" of weather, that now needed to be undone, who would have been doing it but the Weather Channel? It's not like there's a ton of other coverage of weather.

I was today years old when I saw music video for Don't Come Around Here No More by Tom Petty, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

I saw an ad for SoFi on Syfy.

I was using a website where they had a "verify that you are human" and it wasn't even CAPTCHA. It was just a little check box.

And I thought, "man, that's a really low bar."

I've witnessed people being unable to get past the CAPTCHA challenge, failing it over and over and over and just not being able to get the website to proceed to the next step.

because those tests are like designed to fail . Especially those asking to identify a motorcycle in a box or three or more and it never resolves and you will have to go through 20 or 30 tries .

I have been this. Twice I have tried to buy civ3 from GOG, and been defeated by the challenges. I do not get why companies that are trying to take my money make it so hard..

IIRC, it actually works pretty well because it doesn't really care about checking the box, and rather analyze the time taken to click and the cursor movement or somesuch.

nice . Would have helped greatly if it wasn't letting through in not-a-bike queries with correct answers .

Our AI overlords will not be happy to be barred from acquiring human sampling of leisurely time!

Me too, Samson and r16. The thing that pisses me off is when a tiny little portion of the thing they're asking me to identify leans over into a nearby square. Do they want me to check that? Is that the test? That I'll notice that there's one edge of a motorcycle tire in the nearby square? Or is the test that I'm supposed to ignore that?

If they had a way of measuring my rage, they'd know I was human and not a robot.

With all the undercover surveillance we are subject in our daily lives I guess it wouldn't be hard to detect frustrated swearing on the other side of the screen.

I don't really know what you mean by this (except, well, laughing). I'm surprised because I've been buying game there for years, and I don't remember any captcha.
I suppose it might be because I've had an account for so long.

I thought you were joking that he was defeated by a captcha, which would have been great banter.

This old TV jingle from I think the early 2000’s just popped into my head for no reason. It lives deep in the recesses of my brain, wherever, unrecognized for ages, only to suddenly return triumphantly temporarily and without fanfare.

It’s not even really a pop cultural reference that carries any water. It’s just a jingle for a service I don’t need, lodged in some neuron or something, there to sit and occupy that little bit of space that, were I a more productive person, could have been useful knowledge.

Ah, now it's emerged from the recesses of my brain, too!
