Ranking Non-kids animated series'

What about Tripping the Rift?
 
Simpsons is obviously number one, despite the last few abysmal seasons and homer's degrading character. Number two is futurama. I'm actually enjoying futurama reruns but unfortunately the good jokes per minute is pretty low (Blurnsball!!). Family Guy has some incredibly stupid jokes and skits, but some manage to hit a sweet spot. Unfortunately the bad jokes are repeated over and over again (:cry: at "because you touch yourself at night") and that ruins some appeal.

This thread is lucky that "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" isn't animated. Because we all know that show would trump everything.

Let's just calm down a bit. No one's doubting that The Simpsons are one of the greatest cartoon creations and are a heavy influence on anything since.

Problem is, it truly has degraded a bit in recent times. Less humour, parody and originality and instead 'let's make Homer do something stupid for an episode or, failing that, some slapstick and unrealistic rubbish.' This is what makes people think more fondly of more recent cartoon comedy (especially when you consider Futurama and Family Guy were among those cancelled before they had the chance to become stale).

That said, I would still put Simpsons as one of the best, the early series still make me laugh.
 
Tripping the Rift is so crass, and vulgar and just plan screwed up. Love that show. As soon as I saw the trailer on the net a couple of years ago I loved it. Though I think Terry Farrel(or what ever her name is) is a better choice for 6 then whats that bimbo's name.


Harvey Birdman, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Ventura Brothers are all great, often find myself quoting them. Theres a few others semi low key that have already been canned that I liked such Clone High, Mission Hill and Undergrads.

I'm not going to step into the Simpsons/Family Guy/Futurama debate, cause well I think Futurama is the better of the three

Not true at all for Venture Brothers. VB uses continuity as its specialty, something that the Simpsons has none of.
 
Futurama is underrated. And Aqua Teen Hunger Force should be mentioned more. But does anyone else notice that if you watch like 5 or 6 episodes of that in a row, you start to get really depressed? That show is a total downer in snippets longer than 11-minutes.

And as we all know from the great South Park episode "Simpsons Did It" no one can make a cartoon show without doing satleast 1 episode doing what the simpsons already did.
 
Family guy in my view is too ********.
The Steven Hawking episode on futurama was very good :)

I am actually old enough (26) to remember the "do the bartman" song on Mtv...
 
1. Futurama- If it didn't have Zapp Brannigan, it wouldn't be in my top ten. He is very literally the greatest fictional character ever to have existed.
2. Mahoraba- Hard to explain what I like about this... It does what every anime of it's kind does, just so much better. Not a boring character, never a dull moment.
3. Haibane Renmei- Trippy plot, great characters.

There aren't any shows I've seen that are close enough to these to warrant a top 5. Simpsons is nice, but overrated and in a steady, accelerating state of decay. Family Guy relied on Stewie, every scene without him was boring.

Although simpsons has probably the best writers, I've seen so many episodes I'm getting a little sick of it. As far as Family Guy - I remember I hated it at first, but am actually liking it much more than Simpsons now, same goes for The American Dad -but I'm sure that if it was on for over 10 years, I'd grow sick of it as well. Also - they deliver better when it comes to parodies of movies/shows/real life - and that type of humor really appeals to me.
