Rat25 - AWE Training Game #2

I'm interested in playing, but new to SG's. If you have a spot still open could you consider me joining? I have won on Emperor single player, but haven't played AW before. ?

Wandering Noob, I think we're full, but I don't know what the rest of the team thinks.

Heya wandering. I am in the process of planning my next SG, and I need some players. It won't be an AW, but America on a pangaea with conquest as the desired victory condition will be very much a war-mongering friendly game. I am going to put together the beginning post very soon, and will start adding as I go along while I finish my previous SG. If you are interested, post in the thread from the link in my signature.

Welcome to the Boards, Wandering Noob :goodjob:

I think our roster is full, but keep a lookout for other games as TheOverseer stated. By the way, AWE is an entierly different beast from a normal emperor game. Difficulty is far higher.

This is my "got it" post. I think I will not go offensive during this turn-set, because a stack of Dutch may soon appear. Then again, an early knock-out of the dark red tribe might be nice. I will play it by ear.

I think getting rid of Romans would be better than defending against the Dutch, you know, because of Legionaries and all, but that's just my opinion. ;)

We don't know whether these guys are Romans, though it is highly likely. We get IW next turn and better make sure they never hook up iron. Thus, I would at least explore their area to be safe.

Oh yeah.

It could always be one of those civs with their colors messed up. :crazyeye:

im going to check in as this & one other SG will be all I can handle as my schedule is full...
ill wait untill tomorrow or the next day to play my turns

very nice turnset :goodjob: Netting us 2 slaves as well and getting us 4 natives is always good.

Unescorted Red settler appears on hill to SW
This is a bizarre move by Rome, but good for us.

We got no iron though, I would try and gather a small archer force and go after the Roman city. We MUST prevent them from getting iron hooked up. Legions will be deadly for us.

By the way, we need to decide what to research. If we think the GL will be feasible, then we should head for writing and literature. If we decide not to build the GL, then mathematics seem to be the logical choice. Also, we would need horses, so the wheel would be good after maths.

I think we should be able to plant more towns and dedictae one for the GL...but want to hear what the rest have to say.

Yes, I would not want to face legions in this case. I think some limited exploration might be in order to find iron and an archer rush on Roman towns to weaken Rome. More towns are needed for unit support. Balancing all those imperatives is where we win or lose.

I agree... down w/ rome gahh I cant play untill saturday so if someone wants to grap it first..

Tad, are you playing your turnset???

I think he won't be able to play til saturday, so a swap with Own might be in order. That is if Own wants to. He might have a hot date tonight;)

A hot date with civ, right? ;)

Pre-turn- I search far and wide for an MM error, can't find anything. Game is in great shape.

1. Alpha > Math. Rat said that if we want GL, we got writing then lit, and if we don't, maths. But I have built the GL before on AWD even after taking a detour to math. The prebuild just has to be timed well. Our next city will start a prebuild after walls. Math is due in 19t at -1gpt with 12g in the kitty (2.7.1). I just leave wounded archers in the field fortified to heal. Hmm... no I mm for an extra gold and we get maths in 18t.

2. Change Shanghai from an archer to a spear, we'll need one for our next town.

3. Beijing grows. Weird, a roman warrior comes from the north but they have towns in the south. Kill a roman warrior in spices with elite archer that just healed [1-0]. Lux is raised to keep Beijing happy. Current status is 10g -2gpt 1.7.2 Math in 15.

4. Beijing setter > spear. Shanghai spear > settler. Spear in Beijing heads with settler to settling spot (SW) and new spear in Shanghai heads to Beijing. Reg Roman warrior is on a forest. I send a vet archer to kill him, and the archer does one damage before succumbing to his almighty axe. [1-1]. Disappointing. I let Shanghai have the week since it's building a settler. Lux to 0%, SCI to a hundred. 8g, -5gpt, Math in 11.

5. Nanking built, starts on walls, after which it should start a palace. Canton archer > settler. We're feeling no pressure from the AI whatsoever. AWE is hard with many enemies at once, but each individual AI doesn't send too many baddies at once, so 2 should be managable with light military. Worker starts roading the spices.

6. A Roman archer appears near Nanking. SCI down to 80% (2.8.0) and we have 0g, +1gpt, math in 10.

7. The Roman archer is dead now. And the archer that killed him has 5 green things [2-1].

8. SCI up to 90%, now it's 3g, -2gpt, math due in 7.

9. SCI to 80%, now it's 1g, +2gpt, math in 7.

10. Beijing spear > settler. @next player, feel free to change some settler builds, it's just that we've got plenty military and lots of good settling spots. SCI > 90%.

I wouldn't edit an old post to announce a swap opportunity. The next player may see no new posts and not check. Always post again even if you were the last to post.

As Greebley said, play post again for any announcement. I wouldn't go back and check old posts for editing.

That said, do you play or need a skip?

I would strongly advise to rush the Romans now, get up a 5-6 archers and take the town to the south. And then we need to scout the area for iron so they won't get it. This is of utmost importance IMHO.
