RB2b - Mali - Noble - Just Win Baby!

1725 AD (0) - Let's see how things stand:
We appear to be researching at a good rate, but we're running a fairly significant deficit. Some cities can still build courthouses: Timbuktu, Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Bangalore, Yakutsk, Yekaterinberg, and our Russian cities that are still rioting. Admittedly, there are a lot of things that are higher priority than courts, but I think that it's still worth mentioning. We still have Wall Street outstanding, so I'll probably start building it after Timbuktu finishes the Statue, and a factory.

We are at war with Japan, but Tokugawa doesn't have astronomy yet. I'm not going to worry too much about that. I think that I'm going to go for railroads after Biology completes so we won't have trouble if this happens again.

And now the moment you've all been waiting for!

Our deficit drops a fair bit, and we'll have factories up all over the place shortly. Good stuff.

1730 AD (1) - There are a whole bunch of caravals sailing around (mostly Peter's). We've got one up north too, and I think I'll sail it over to one of our resources for defense down the road.

1735 AD (2) - The Statue of Liberty complete, and our deficit drops further. Excellent.

Awdaghost finishes a Grocer, and starts an aquaduct in preparation for a coal plant.
Tadmekka finishes its factory, and starts an aquaduct too.
St. Petersburg finishes its theater, and starts a library.

1740 AD (3) - Mao wants us to declare war on the Spanish! That's certainly a tough decision. Isabella doesn't have a very high score, and I doubt that she has Astronomy, so we're probably not at much of a risk. I hope I don't wind up regretting this, but I agree to "help" him.

We learn biology, and research is set to steel.
Niani finishes the Globe Theatre, and starts on a factory.
Rostov comes out of resistance, and starts a lighthouse.
Yaroslavl comes out of resistance, and starts a library.
So much for our reduced deficit. Those two towns will provide lots of commerce, though.
Roosevelt converts to Buddhism. That's the same as Japan and Spain. Not good.

1745 AD (4) - Roosevelt annouces us as his worst enemy, and cancels our ongoing trade.
We finish our coal plant in Djenne, and start an observatory.
Delhi finishes its coal plant, and starts a grocer.
Bangalore finishes its library, and starts a courthouse.
Yekaterinburg finishes its courthouse, and starts a library.

1750 AD (5) - Japan attacks and defeats the caraval guarding our southernmost fishing boats.
Timbuktu finishes its factory, starts Wall Street.
Kumbi finishes its coal plant, starts an observatory.
Gao finishes its factory, starts a coal plant.
Bombay finishes its coal plant, starts an observatory.
Does anyone know how exactly the game decides which tiles you can and can't work during war? Takedda can't work any of its water tiles, so it's at a big food shortage.

1755 AD (6) - Awdaghost finishes its coal plant, starts an observatory.
Tadmekka finishes its coal plant, starts an observatory. Is anyone noticing a pattern here?
Delhi finishes its grocer, and starts an ironclad to help with those annoying Japanese boats.
Yakutsk finishes its lighthouse, starts a granary.
St. Petersburg finishes its library, starts a bank.

1760 AD (7) - Tokugawa shows up, willing to pay 30 gold for peace. He doesn't have anything more valuable, so I take the deal.
Djenne finishes its observatory, and starts a cavalry. It's time to get the war machine going again!
Kumbi does the same.
Tekedda builds a frigate, and moves on to an ironclad. While there, I also notice that half our water tiles are workable again, and our fishing net is magically back. That's odd.
Bombay finishes its observatory, and starts a university.
Delhi finishes an ironclad, starts a courthouse.
Yekatinberg finishes its library, and starts a market.

1765 AD (8) - We learn railroads, and start research on rifling. We're going to need something other than cavalry sooner or later, and this will get us infantry.
Walata finishes its factory, and starts an observatory.
Awdaghost finishes its observatory, and starts a cavalry.
Tadmekka finishes its observatory, and starts West Point.
Rostov finishes its lighthouse, and starts a courthouse.
Our golden age ends, but I think that the factories, coal plants and observatories were a good use of it.

1770 AD (9) - Djenne finishes a cavalry, and starts another.
Kumbi does the same.
Gao finishes its coal plant, and starts a cavalry.
Niani finishes its factory, and starts a grocer.
Delhi finishes its courthouse, and starts a harbor.

1775 AD (10) - Among the many ships moving around, I'm positive that I saw one sail straight through a glacier. Is the game taking shortcuts in drawing movement, or did that really happen?
Awdaghost finishes a cavalry, starts another.
Takedda finishes an ironclad, starts a university.
Bombay finishes its university, and starts a courthouse.

I'd say that the two big things to do right now are take over Russia, and get a military railnet up. I don't think that anybody else is even close to having factories up, so we have a significant production advantage. I think that it might be a good idea to use that to grab some of the new modern age wonders, like Broadway, Rock 'N Roll, and the Eifel Tower. The future is ours for the taking!

Jester’s Sixth Turn

(Wow, that went by quickly.)

I look around and I wonder… why are we at peace with Peter? Do we need allies? Is there something preventing us from just steamrolling him off our continent? I’m not sure about that decision at all. However, I’m not going to just up and declare on him. We’re close to infantry, so I’ll bide my time building up our already-massive lead. If the next person wants to take out Peter, feel free. It’s not going to be hard.

I’m going to be building so much, and it’s all pretty predictable. So I’m not going to list every building built, if it’s all the same at this stage. No strategic decisions to make.

(0) I notice several of our cities are building cavalry, with infantry due next turn. It’s time to get with the times! No outdated troops for us! I’ll let this round build, but it’s infantry from here on in!

(1) 1780: Rifling comes in. I start on electricity. I take a look at our civics, which I forgot to do last turn. Nationhood confuses me greatly, as does caste system. We’ve got enough infrastructure to go without caste system (I think) and free speech is just better than nationalism here. I swap us over. We now make a scandalous *NINE* trade from towns. Oh, and Mao made peace with Isabella.

(2) 1785: Awdaghost starts on the pentagon. Due in 19.

(3) 1790: Snore.

(4) 1795: Roosevelt offers corn for incense. Okay, done. Electricity comes in, start on Radio. Kumbi Salesh starts on Broadway. Let’s all hope he has a good long run! (Sorry, sorry.)

(5) 1800: Isabella is willing to talk, and Mao’s already bailed, so… I dial her up, and get trivial junk (10 gold, 1 gpt, world map) for peace. She hasn’t got anything else, and we’re not pursuing this phony war anyways. -12 relations after peace; Isa hates us as much as Asoka, and he’s dead!

(6) 1805: Roosevelt asks us to stop trading with Mao. I remind him that political power sprouts from the barrel of a gun, and that we have many, many more guns than he does. Wall Street pops in Timbuktu. West Point pops at Tadmekka. Valmiki, Who looks a rather frightening amount like Elvis, pops at Niani. I put him to sleep. Either we’ll use him as a culture bomb, or else we’ll make him into a GA.

(7) 1810: We have entered the modern era! Watches for everyone! Radio comes in. I set us to industrialism. I recommend computers next, for those sweet, sweet laboratories, but it’s up to the next person (Methos?). Djenne starts Eiffel.

(8) 1815: Roosevelt cancels our deal of silk and wine for fur and gold. I ask him what he wants instead. He asks for fur and gold in exchange for silk and wine. I wish this joke had a punchline. Niani starts building Rock and Roll.

(9) 1820: Snore.

(10) 1825: Nothing to report.

Our research is top-notch, we’re flying along building infrastructure all over, and we’re just a shade away from doubling our nearest rival’s score.

I think we’re doing okay.

For the following 10: We could easily just sit back, relax, and coast to a space race victory.

Or, just for fun, we could invade Peter. Or, for even more fun, we could crush the entire world under our boots. I recommend getting tanks, artillery and transports for that. Oh, and an air force.

I leave it for the team to choose, I’ve done very little but accelerate our power accumulation.

Good luck, Methos, although now you *really* don't need it.

Got it....

Edit: Are you saying we're 10 turns away from a space victory? I'm guessing I'm reading that wrong. Haven't had a chance to look at the save yet so am unsure about Peter. Figure that out later.

What do we want for a victory? Space?

Oh, no, I didn't mean to imply that at all. More like 8 turns away. :joke:

I just meant that we have an unsurmountable tech lead combined with a massive production advantage. If we chose to go for space, nobody could even get in the game before we walked away with it. Just research computers next, build labs everywhere, grab the Space Elevator, and we're set.

Any other strategy would require more intense effort. Personally, I'm not really interested in fighting a foregone conclusion war-of-annhilation against technologically backwards opponents.

Noble, while a fine difficulty to start this game at, just isn't challenging for me now. I presume that's basically the case for everyone here.

I say we space race, claim our victory, and move on to bigger and better things!

-Jester

I vote for taking out Peter. I don't really feel like a conquest / domination victory involving amphibious warfare mostly becuase it's such a slog usually, but I'll do it if everyone else wants to.

I think given our warring, diplomatic would be tough.

I'm not sure if our 3 top cities have any type of culture, but that might be an option. If not, I say just go for space

I'm definitely going to agree with going for space.

On another note, I actually meant all those cavalry as a means of going after Peter immediately, but I could've been clearer about that in my log.

Er... whoops.

That's a weird thing about my gameplay, actually. I avoid declaring war like the plague itself. I try to be more violent in my SGs, since most people don't share my strange pacifism. By inclination, though, I'm a builder's builder.

But, by all means, let's wipe out Peter. Declare on him, since he hates us anyway.

I'm the same way. If possible I have no problem going the entire game without fighting a single game. Because of this I try to be a little more violent in SG's to increase my warmongering experience.

Oh yeah, getting ready to play.

Well, on the pass off turn I began moving troops towards Russia getting prepared for an invasion. The following turn I declared war and moved in. Due to a high chance of loss with our cavalry I waited several turns until I could get our cannons adjacent to Moscow. Once that was done bombardment began. After a couple turns bombarding I moved in and took the city. Was rather amazed at how easily it fell.

Any units that were wounded sat in Moscow and healed while full health units heading to Russia’s only remaining cities. It was around this time we learned the technology that allows tanks and got our oil hooked up. The turn or so before my last turn we bombarded Peter’s last city to 0% defense bonus. On my last turn I sent the cannons in for a little damage. This was followed by a couple tank attacks and than a cav attack against a cat. On my last turn, the Russian civilization was destroyed.

Finished a battleship and sent him out to deal with some of Peter’s ships near Bangalore. Wow! It’s really interesting to see combat calculations of 40 versus 3. All three of Peter’s ships were sunk and the last one managed to scratch our battleship. I have since built several more battleships.

Many of our cities are either unhealthy or unhappy. We need to see if we can fix this. I have begun building several labs but didn’t pay attention to whether I built them in unhealthy cities. Didn’t realize that labs give a +1 unhealthy face.

I sent our Great Scientist to Djenne to build the Academy. Prior to him Djenne was at 99 bpt. After it was around 127 I believe. Could be remembering wrong.

Since Peter is gone we should probably start getting our infrastructure built up better. Make sure all our cities are healthy and happy. We should also upgrade all of our old units.

Since I pillaged all of Peter’s resources I suggest the next player reconnect them. I don’t believe we need them but the increased tile performance will help Peter’s old cities.

Here's my turnlog:

Here's the 1860 AD save.

Edit: Almost forgot. Due to the unhealthiness and unhappiness several cities are set at no growth. Can't remember which ones though.

Good turn! We're now masters of our continent, not to mention the world!

"Since I pillaged all of Peter’s resources I suggest the next player reconnect them."

Heh, that's the one time you don't want to be out pillaging resources: when they'll be *your* resources in a few turns. Thankfully, we could raze those cities to the ground and not suffer a scratch, so...

On with the show!

-Jester

Hey everyone, just letting you all know that from December 4th until December 11th my wife and I will be taking a Carnival cruise in the Caribbean. I will not be able to play my turns during that timeframe. There is internet on the ship so I might check up on the games once or twice but nothing more.

Note: Please skip me as of this post and all days up until December 12th. Our returning flight lands around 10:30 pm on the 11th and we are not expecting to get home until 2 or 3 am on the 12th. So anytime from the 12th on I will be able to resume play. Thanks!

:wavey:

1860 (0) - Wow are cities are a lot bigger than they used to be! Everything looks good. I turn the culture slider up to 10% and boom no more unhapiness. I keep science at 90%, we lose -75 gpt but we have a lot of gold.
1862 (1) - Awdhaghost Theater->Ironworks. Lotsa production here. I don't see anything about the Forbidden Palace, so I order it up in St. Pete - 7 turns. Send the Great Artist to Novgorod to end the resistance there.
1866 (3) - Rocketry->Plastics. Eiffel Tower completes. Tadmekka starts on the Apollo program (13 turns). The Great artist bombs Novgorod and we've got some culture baby!
1868 (4) - Lots of border expansions and we love the minister.
1872 (6) - Rock N Roll in Niani. I've been building some jewish missionaries in some towns to make sure all our cities can read the Torah.
1876 (8) - Forbidden Palace in St. Pete.
1878 (9) - John Roebling born in Beijing. I count that as a shoutout to me in Cincinnati (home of the Roebling Suspension bridge, when it was built the biggest bridge in the world, and inspiration for the Brooklyn Bridge, also built by Roebling). It would have been cooler if he was our great person. I just now realize that we don't control Beijing :)
1880 (10) - I had been waiting to build the 3 gorges dam in Awd after the Ironworks but just realized it's not on a river - sorry :smoke: It won't let me build the Space Elevator there either? Anyone know why? I'm building a laboratory there for now.

Workers are mostly railroading the tiles that get benefit from it (mines, windmills, lumbermills, etc). They're just about done. We're definitely in mopup mode here.

There doesn't appear to be any word from StarrySurprise. Should I play tonight, or give it some more time?

I vote veovim if you want, post a got it and if SS checks in we can slot him in after you.
Sounds good to me. Unless anyone objects before tomorrow evening, I've got it, and I'll play then.
