RB30 - Open SG - Irrational Isabella

Great, I have an exam week coming in school and now I will spend every bit of my free time monitoring this thread with bloodshot eyes.

Damn you, Kylearan, damn you to hell.

@Kylearan and players in general. Who would be interested in another instance of this SG: RB30b - Open SG - Irrational Isabella. Rules the same. Simply more of a great SG. I'm willing to startup the second instance per Kylearan approval. The SG is his idea. Post discussions in this forum. Here

Gusto, I would suggest waiting with starting another open SG until this one is over. In my view, playing several SGs in parallel only makes sense if different teams want to compare gameplay for a given scenario. This SG is different though: Because you only get to play one or two turnsets during the whole game due to its open nature, combined with the story-telling, humorous style of reporting, makes following what is actually happening in-game very hard already as it is. Having an almost identical SG with the same rules, but different story would confuse people a lot. Well, me at least. ;)

Also, part of the fun is the furious speed this SG runs at, and camping the thread trying to claim the game. :scan: Having a parallel second SG would take away some of that fun as well.

I had planned to run another open SG after this one anyway if there's enough interest, probably with different world settings and a different leader. Ori is about to lead us and Irrational Izzy into the 16th century, so I expect this game to be finished in a couple of days anyway. I will gauge interest about another SG like this one then.

Of course you're free to start another instance of this SG if you want to, but please take this into consideration before doing so. :)

I can wait if you’re planning to start another open SG after this one. I’m obviously highly interested in another one. :D

It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen. Isabella Smith, her chin nuzzled into her breast in an effort to escape the vile wind, slipped quickly through the glass doors of Victory Mansions, though not quickly enough to prevent a swirl of gritty dust from entering along with her...

Isabella awoke with a start, “War is Peace” she mumbled sleepily and rose from her bed. She called for her servant and instructed her to summon the royal advisors for she needed to finally give the affairs of the state the right direction.
The scientific advisor was the first to enter the throne room and immediately started to report on the discoveries the newly hired scientists had made when he was cut short by his Queen “Shut up – we don't need any more nonsense about science and discoveries...” “Bbbbuttt oouur scientists...” “Round them all up and send them to the mines – there they'll at least do something useful” “BBButtt...” “Oh and we don't need you anymore either you are dismissed – guards! We'll find some new Advisor of Truth – Ignorance is Strength!”.
Just as the former scientific advisor was led away the military advisor entered, looking worried as to the fate of the former scientific advisor but still started his report on the state of disarmament when he, too was cut short “DISarmament?!? are you insane? What we need is more army to combat our evil enemies Emmanuel and Goldstein” “To combat whom?” “Why, our evil enemies Emmanuel – this small red evil looking man - and Goldstein – the one with the pointy hat - of course! Now out! And get it done already or shall I install a new love advisor!”

Thus it was decreed to round up all scientists and most were send to the mines apart from some that escaped into the so called “great” library and another so called “great” scientist who chained himself to the stairs of Victory Palace. And a new era of power and strength ensued for

Ignorance is Strength

At the same time the structure of government was changed to make sure that all people in the kingdom were truly free, since

Slavery is Freedom :

Also of course the crusade for peace was renewed with the declaration of war against Emmanuel

and Goldstein

for War is Peace

The true friend of the people Huayna even offered to give information of the whereabouts of the enemy to us in exchange for some obscure myths and Isabella accepted this provided that Huayna cease contacts with the enemy.

Thus just shortly afterwards the glorious soldiers of the Spanish empire gathered at Tokio and ousted the enemy from there burning the city in the process – Tokio's liberated citizens were so joyous that they volunteered to join the growing Spanish workforce!

To celebrate this victory the city of 1984 was founded in 1520

Meanwhile the main force of the glorious spanish empire advanced on the city of Frankfurt to liberate this stronghold of the Enemy of the People – but just as spanish forces prepared for attack Frankfurt was liberated by allied forces!

At that time the Queen again was plagued by her headache and fell asleep – content for she new that

They loved Big Isa

Spoiler those dice ;) and situation :

weird rolls – first a 36 for overload then a 1 to declare war and a 20 for peace so I rerolled the second and in truly orvellian fashion it turned out an anti-science 8 which sealed the theme :p
The round was short so nothing much happened – Tokio was a size one city in the southern cold and autorazed, but we gained a worker – all (few) forces that went south are on their return to spanish territory, since the last japanese city cannot be attacked without declaring war on a third party :suicide:
The majority of offensive forces are outside Frankfurt which has been snapped from in front of them by Monty (I did not even realize he was at war with Bismarck :smoke: on the domestic front I vetoed the university in the capital – that would not have been strong and build some more cottages...

Is this thing on?

Stuge was that your "got it" post?

Her majesty Isabella awoke with a feeling that suggested that somebody had hit a nail on her head. However, even greater than the throbbing pain behind her eyes was the fury burning her heart. She commanded the servants to summon her generals and to shut the drapes on their way out.

When the generals had filed into the room, the Queen issued her command:

"The heathen Americans must be punished for their insolence. I understand that Germany and Japan are in their last throes. Rally our troops and burn Washington to the ground!"

After a certain period of embarassed silence, one of the assembled generals spoke:

"My Queen, we really aren't in a position to attack America. Most of our troops are in the north with general Álvar..."

"Recall most of the battalions! I'm sure that Fernandez can end the German threat even with the lighter-armed units."

"The people won't like..."

"Who cares? What do you think I have my secret police for? The people have no say in this matter."

"I'm not sure we can afford..."

"Oh yes we can. Just don't waste any funds on scientists. They'll serve me better in the army anyway."

"We can't even reach the mainland. We have no ROP agreements with Arabia and India."

The Queen fell silent for a moment. Then she summoned the Arabian and Indian embassadors. Even though it was against her principals, she signed with them the agreements necessary to reach America. A similiar deal was signed with the Aztec envoy who'd tagged along to see what the fuss was all about.

Later, Isabella was very pleased to find out that the Incans shared some of her zeal.

Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

She only laughed with scorn, however, when the German came to plead mercy.

Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

The fool was sent away, and his days were soon numbered. First general Álvarez captured his last major city and later the Aztecs hunted him down in the frozen north for good.

The crusade against America, not counting some border skirmishes, was slow to start. Isabella fretted in her palace and nagged at the generals to get the troops to the south. Then the bad news came.

Civ4ScreenShot0012.jpg

The Incans were getting to see all the action. They captured that American city in the south, but also lost a city to an American army. Then came the word, that Asoka had declared war on America and captured Chicago, a major American city. This was too much for Isabella. She feared that her crusade would never even reach America and became depressed. Then came the headache...

Spoiler :
The dice bade me to play the zealot for nine turns. As a result, a most ridiculously dispropotionate SOD has been gathered in the area circled in red.

Civ4ScreenShot0014.jpg

It is ready for action and has probably enough troops to take out half the world. God forbid that the next player should be a hippie...

Also, the next player should notice that the science slider is currently set at 100%. Adjust it as you will.

Who's the lucky guy?

Isabella awoke with a smile the next morning, for she knew what the empire needed. The Hindu gods had come to speak to her while she was sleeping and whispered the one rule that must be obeyed for her to maintain the mandate of Heaven. Production.

And so it began. One by one, the merchants, scientists, and artists were all rounded up. Hoods were placed over their heads to hide their faces as the "specialists" were all put into wagons that vanished the next morning. The wagons would then mysteriously reappear in the newly conquered German lands to the north. Whispers were abound that these specialists were being forced into labor camps. The rumors said that the specialists were worked to death, all in the name of pleasing Isabella's insatiable thirst for more production. And so the heart of the empire prospered, with the discovery of engineering, philosophy, liberalism, and astronomy. The empire was so prosperous that Isabella proclaimed the start of the Great Irrigation Project.

But all was not well on the eastern borders...

General Alvarez had not received word from Isabella on how to proceed with the war against the evil Americans and Japanese for some years now. He was growing impatient as the local militia was continuing to be trained to form an elite squadron of macemen, but he had received no orders to march. Finally, Alvarez decided to take action. Alvarez approached the city gates the next day.

"Governor of Kufah, I demand that you cede this city to the mighty Spanish empire, or feel the wrath of the numberless army gathered at your gates!"

But there was no reply - only the chirping of birds as the sun was just beginning to rise over the mountains to the east.

"This is your last warning! Open your gates and you will be spared!"

Again, there was no response as the denizens of Kufah were not yet awake. Alvarez then ordered the troops to march, and the war engines were awake again. Large stones were launched in such vast numbers that the walls dissolved like a sand castle being battered by waves.

The city had fallen by nightfall, but Alvarez ordered the troops to march through the night. He wanted to sustain this campaign at lightning speed, so that he could reach the borders of America by winter. Damascus was the next city in his path, and it too fell under the fury of the Spanish stone rain. News of the sneak attack had spread through the Arabian lands by now and a token Arabian force engaged the Spanish army in the field. But it was all for naught as the Spanish war engine continued its relentless march.

The Spanish army was soon at the borders of Philadelphia. Alvarez personally led the charge in the ensuing battle, and sustained grievous wounds and was forced to camp there for the remainder of the winter. However, Alvarez ordered the uninjured troops to continue their march, for he knew he had trained them well and trusted their loyalty. News returned over the next few weeks of the fall of Atlanta and Osaka. As the first flowers were beginning the bloom in the winter camp, Alvarez received news that Washington was now under siege. Alvarez prepared to march as he wanted to personally lead his army to victory.

Historians have also found records of the south guard being formed around this time. They surmised that the south guard was created to ensure that no Arabs were able to attack Alvarez's winter camp. However, the truth was far more startling.

Spoiler :
The south guard had been formed by deserters of the Spanish army who did not want to fight. They camped outside the outskirts of Damascus to admire the white tailed deer that were found in the woods there - engaging in bizarre rituals that created a blue glow...

Claimed, then un-claimed because of lack of time. Disregard this post.

Aand so it come.
1604 year of our Lord
Queen is dead, long live the Queen!

Start of the reign on illustrious Queen Isabella XXVI.

As historican I have to notice that life spamm of our leaders become shorter and shorter. It is told that rule of Isabella I spamm many handred of years, befor we even know our Lord, the Crist.

Rule of Isabella XXVI was short, but bloody and Isabella again show hints of maddness so often characterise her famaly. Madness of Isabella XXVI come from her absession with War.

Our illustrious Queen start of her rule with tour of other leaders, lots of trades and diplomacy. Touch of madness show to, as she call each ambassador one of her question was: " How do you like as?" and when Alexandr hesitated in positive answer she immidiatly declare war on him.

Alex empire is to far away, so this way did not had any impact on her rule.
Her second act was to addopt Representation, Free press and Mercantenilism.

As she sad:" They want Representation, so I will send my representative in each city, so they wach all lasy specialists to research harder and 5 special representative in 5 biggest cities, so they feel my hand is allway near. That will make them happy! They can write what ever they want! No one get anything from trading with our cities. Our illustrious empire does not need foreign trade."

War with America went stale, as Indians occupy Washington.

Shotly after treacherous Mounty declare war on our kingdom.

War with Amerika and Saladin were stop and forces redirected in order to punish this horrible backstabber.

He did mean buisness, sending a few big statct into our land.
Mounty_mean_buisness0000.JPG

Hoge sum of money were spend into upgrading existing trops to respond on this covardy act.

As additional diplomatic action Our Queen inlished help of a friend.
War_war_war0000.JPG

Huge amount of money went on quick research of Nationalism and it was adopted in order to draft additional units.
With help of citisens that give there lives to build Globe theater in Berlin local army on Muskets ware drafted.

Our queen wanted Cavalry and that was achieved at the end of her reign.
Great Engeneer help to enchance Heroic epic with expirience giving wander.

As her last act was to make peace with Alex, in order to attone for her initial madness.

Isabella awakes once more. Unusually she only summons her Financial Advisor, to demand one thing.

“The Spanish Empire must waste none of its resources in our pursuit of the Grail. I will not tolerate you or any of our people growing rich while our brave soldiers fight abroad. Empty the treasury I say! And go forth!”

At her command, every last gold piece was spent on the bettering of the Empire. More funds were devoted to the Scientists, the military was modernized and Isabella went on a brief shopping spree with the remaining cash.

Pleased with the economic turmoil, Isabella then declared

“Spain is the most Civilized nation on this Earth, and it is our moral duty to lead by example.”

Unsure of how to interpret this, an Emissary to Inca thought ‘moral duty’ was simply her way of saying ‘kill the infidel’ and asked Spain’s good friend Huayna to assist in the cleansing of Aztec lands, naturally as the Inca’s are nearly as Civilized as humble Spain, they agreed.

Huaynahelp.jpg

The army does not disappoint. Texcoco is captured in 1646. Tlaxcala falls in 1658. Tlatalolco is taken in 1664 with the Hanging Gardens intact.. Tlacopan is burned to the ground in 1667. Teotihuacan meets the same fate in 1673.

Aztec_rout.jpg

However our brave allies the English are fairing less well, Coventry falls to the Barbaric Aztecs.

However instead of finishing off the pesky Aztec, her Financial advisor humbly suggests that it would be in Spain’s best interests to strengthen their domestic situation before making further conquests. Isabella remembering his earlier work for Spain’s welfare, agrees to it.

In 1676, the Spanish constitution is drawn up. It states the freedom of every individual in Spain as long as their actions do nothing to harm Spain or Isabella herself. It also mentions that the lands of the Aztecs, Arabs and Greeks are rightfully Spain’s and will one day reflect this.

The dirty Arab clearly has other ideas, just a few weeks later, he cowardly declares war on Spain’s closest ally, the Inca’s. Always ready to help, Isabella offers to help stomp on the Arab’s forces. However Huayna happily tells her that Inca can handle its own affairs thank you very much.

Isabella then hears rumours of something called 'Economics', Asoka refuses to tell her what all the fuss is about, but Lizzy shares the secret.

asokanotimpressed.jpg

The financial advisor is once again summoned, Isabella is happy to hear of Spain’s growing prosperity. After seeing him off, she abruptly trips on the Palace steps and hits her head hard enough to knock her out.

Save in next post!
