RBCiv Conquests SG Discussion Thread

The French have demonstrated the superiority of their culture, achieving the Civ-Wide culture victory in 1620AD. Our total was 20,172, compared to Spain's 6,789. Paris was the highest single city, at 2,971. :)

The Treacherous English decided to make the last few turns interesting by declaring war to get out of 300+gpt payments!

The Portugal game on Sid difficulty has also concluded in victory. :goodjob:

The Aztec game is now open, and could use some players - anyone who wants, please go grab it. :)

The Iroquois game had listed for the original roster CaesarAugustus, DeceasedHorse, and 6thGenTexan. Since Caesar seems to have disappeared, the game is up for captaincy. romeothemonk, it looks like you're willing to do that? This game would also seem to have at least a couple open roster spots.

I will play the Iro game but cannot captain due to mitigating circumstances. (going to a bunch of buddies weddings and then plotting my own). If someone is willing to lead up the team, send me a PM and I will get the mod to you shortly.

So how much interest is there to start this series up again with a RBC15 playing the next conquest - Napoleanic Wars?

Charis was the driving force behind the SGs exploring the Conquest scenarios. I'd like this series to continue and had PMed Charis to ask if he still had plans to organize RBC15, or if he would mind me doing it. He replied that he probably won't be able to play, but that he still would like to organize RBC15 by himself - and that he would do it "Thur or Fri, but if not - by Monday.". Well, that was about two weeks ago. :p So I guess I'll PM him again, and we should organize the next one ourselves in case RL has gotten hold of him. ;)

I had thought about the Japan scenario, but Napoleonic Wars would be fine, too.

Are there more people interested?

I'm very interested, (in either conquest, BTW, I've been waiting for the series to start back up and haven't played either one). Unfortunately, I'm leaving next Tuesday for nearly 3 weeks for military training, and won't have Civ access. :( So if RBC15 gets up and going before then, I'll have to miss this round, but I'll definitely be up for the next one.

I'm always interested. I'd say let's play the next one of the conquests (Japan).
I'm up for these too. It takes away some of the ,now just beginning to happen, monotony of the regular game. I haven't played many of these at all.

Funny, that's exactly what I dislike about the conquests. Takes so darn long to familiarize myself with the techs, units, etc.

That said, I would like to humbly voice some interest. Truth be told though, it's more an interest to partcipate in the RBC series than any particular conquest.

I am really interested in continueing the series. They have been a lot of fun. We have 2 games to hurry and finish first though. Iroquois with the team going now, and Aztecs open SG, which is stuck on page two. 3 turns have been played and many more are waiting to be played.

Charis wanted to wait on Sengoku (Japan) because of unit balance issues that he was hoping would be addressed in a patch. With no patch forthcoming, we may as well continue in order and play Sengoku next.

That was why I was thinking about the Napoleanic Conquest, but I'm up for either. Maybe we can keep folks like Arathorn and Speaker active a little longer :mischief:

Carrying on with the Sengoku has promise. I would be pleased to participate.

I think it's the pillaging power of one unit (some 2/5/2 kind of thing). We can just mod it ourselves if needed.

How should the unit be modified, though? Are there any other modding concerns out there?

I know I probably won't get to play this one, but here's some thoughts anyway. Does the AI use the unit (the Yamabushi, IIRC, 2 move but with ATAR, so can go up to 6) to pillage as well? If not, then a house rule to disallow pillaging (or even ban the unit) would solve it, as I agree it's better not to mod the conquests if possible.

However, if the AI does use it to pillage, that could make AI-AI wars devastating, as the AI has trouble developing land intelligently to begin with. Also, I seem to remember (from reading posts, I haven't played it) that it is also used to grab unescorted workers, as the AI doesn't recognize it's ability to strike so deep in one turn. If anyone who has played and has experience with this scenario can chime in, to confirm or deny the AI's behavior with this unit, that would help to decide how best to deal with it.

It never happened in my games, but there are a few examples posted in the conquests(?) forum about it. Banning the Yamibushi is out, since you need the unit to find ninja's. I haven't seen any examples of any players using the unit this way, well not en masse; we want the roads to ourselves.
