RBD 24 Grab-the-game SG: Cold and Lonely

Inherited turn - changed science to 90%. Alphabet is in 3 turns now.

1100 BC - Persia has completed the Collossus. I've never seen a wonder complete this early before. What's more, it was in Susa, which isn't their capital. I'll put it down to leader rushed or just a city that REALLY is cranking the sheilds. We disperse a barb encampment for 25 gold.

1075 BC - zzzz

1050 BC - Alphabet finished, writing started

1025 BC - zzzz

1000 BC - barb spotted trying to take our canal city spear/settler combo

975 BC - he failed :D Pi Ramesses founded at canal location.

950 BC - zzzz

925 BC - zzzz

900 BC - Pi Ramesses comes under attack from heinous barbarian horsemen. A fierce battle is fought. Blood was shed on both sides and the fight lasted into the night, but in the end, our glorious spearmen ambushed the horsemen while they were sleeping and slew their mounts. The next morning, when their guards were found dead, the horsemen fled in all directions only to be slaughtered by our spearmen.

875 BC - zzzz

850 BC - Our mighty Elite warrior finds the home village of the vile barbarian horsemen that attacked fifty years ago. Some warriors are all the defense they have. Enraged by the attack years earlier, our warriors plan a sneak attack. A harsh fight ensued, and the defending warriors were more skilled than anyone could have predicted. They routed our legion of warriors and slay four out of every five men. In the end, we were victorious, and the accursed encampment was burned to the ground, and 25 crateloads of gold were returned home as spoils of war.

825 BC - Babylon builds the Oracle. A fresh spearman is sent to our city with no defenders - Alexandria.

800 AD - zzzz

I had a look at our wonder city and saw that it had two mined grassland. Hmmm. Irrigation should replace those mines ASAP, as all the mines do is give us one sheild at the cost of another mined hill, or half a mined mountain. I also got most cities on workers. Thebes is building a temple, which will be complete very soon (giving us some much needed culture), it should then change back to cranking the settlers. If they want, the next leader can change it to a granary, but it will take much longer.

I've been in my biweekly programming project mode this past week, I can't pick this one up till my project is turned in sometime on Monday night. So by all means, jump in and grab this game if you can make it.

775 BC Science research is dropped down to 90%, still losing money but not as much. Timeline for the discovery of Writing remains the same.

750 BC

730 BC See 750 BC

710 BC Science reseach is once again lowered, to 80%. Egypt is now seeing a profit. Discovery of Writing is still on schedule.

690 BC See 730 BC

670 BC [party] no more drawing pictures, we know know writing!!! Science is pumped back up to 100%, Map Making is due in 19 turns!

650 BC Alexandria begins building a temple, need to get that silk into our boarders to help with population.

630 BC Patzinal Warrior attacks our Elite Warrior, battle ensues, Egyptian Warrior yarns as barbarians die. Warriors move north searching for camp.

610 BC Patzinal Horsemen attack our Elite Warrior, battle ensues, Warrior a little beaten up but emerges victorious, Moves north and sites camp.

590 BC Elephantine begins building a temple.

Hmm...kind of a boring turn here. The Americans finished the Pyramids on my first turn, so Memphis ended up making an expensive granary. Our elite warrior in the north got beat by a barbarian horsie, so our regular unit gets moved to barb farming duty while Giza is founded in his general former vicinity. Most towns are now producing either granaries or temples and Map Making is five turns out.

170 BC - Initiating "Project: Deforestation"
150 BC - Building second Spearman in Pi-Ramesses, sending newly-built settler north. The settler to the south is slated to board the Galley.
130 BC - Aztecs completed the Hanging Gardens. Damn those handsome devils!
110 BC - *yawn*
90 BC - Changed production in Giza to Temple in order to expand culture and, thusly, production.
70 BC - "Project: Deforestation" going off without a hitch
50 BC - The Galley "ESS Sphinx" completed, loaded with Warrior and Settler in case an island is found nearby.
30 BC - Byblos Founded, much mead enjoyed by citizens.
10 BC - zzzZZZzzz
10 AD - Citizens confused by change of calendars, looking forward to being literate.

Here ya go:

Thank you, MightyMaus. This wasn't intended to be an "anyone plays" SG, but then again, nobody who was eligible was playing (and it's as much my fault, probably moreso, as anyone else).

Okay, this game is not in the best of shape and is not working out like it was planned. That much is beyond dispute.

The question now is what do we do about it?

I see some options:

1. Retire the game. Be the first RBD game thus far to not end in victory.

2. Suspend/Restart the game. If the problem is that everyone is too busy, we can put this in deep sleep mode and reassess the situation later, say in a month or after some of the other SGs have completed. Alternatively, We could quit this particular game and restart another game with the same rules but a different map at a later date and everyone here would be reserved a spot.

3. Turn this game into an "Anyone Plays" game. I'd really like to get some okays on this from the group before I open it up to any random person playing.

Please weigh in, folks.

There seems to be a general slow down in all of the SG lately....I don't know if all of us reached "burn-out" at the same time or not. As far as this game is concerned I would like to finish it. I would go with either opening it to all, or adding in a couple more intersted players. One suggestion may be to lengthen the tirns...on this map 10 turns at this stage is almost too much trouble for so little fun.

Ahh, I'm sorry about that; I haven't played succession games on this board before. I do hope I haven't screwed things up for you guys.

I'd have to say that my interest in this particular game has waned. I believe that there isn't enough players to make this a "grab-the-game" style. So I propose that we postpone, set the order or open it to all.

We seemed to loose some steam in this game. I am currently quite busy with work/school and a new home. So I vote for opening it up for all. Make it an open game and finish it :goodjob:

I think the problem was that rbd23 consumed everyone's mind and this one fell through the cracks...

I vote open it for all
