RBW3 - Mehmed the Unwise

Check out that last deal from Alex.

Alexander the (Not-so ) Great: Be wise Mehmed the Unwise and give in to our demands.

Mehmed the Unwise: Be Wise?! Didn't you see the name?! Mehmed the UNWISE!

Good catch Lol.

Alex is up to something. I move our maces down to the south to protect against him.

The dreaded diplo screen comes up first IBT. Its Monty cancelling open borders. You're not that far away across the channel buddy. We may be coming after you.

Yep, he's after us

Liberalism comes in and we grab Nationalism and start Gunpowder.

Alex has 5 axes, 2 archers and a phalanx in his stack. I have 7 maces, 1 pike, 1 sword, 5 catapults and 2 axes in my nearest city

I lose one mace at 89% and the stack is gone.

I call up Stalin to see if he'll join in but he has too much on his hands, hope he's not coming after us too. Izzy will join in for Nationalism (but will give Guilds in return) but I hold of for now.

GE gifted to Stalin.

Taj Mahal is started in Edirne.

Stalin declares on Isabella last turn. We have a sizeable stack down south. We should look to end the war with Alex asap and take a side in the Spain/Russia conflict (whoever asks first? or take on Stalin)

Stalin is the score leader?!

You are ahead in score from Huayna Capac without making a dent on his empire?!

Well turn 0- We have tons of deals with Izzy, but only open borders with Stalin, so I think taking Izzy's side a good choice, however look at the power graph, maybe we should just back stab Izzy. Actually I am not going to play we need to discuss this situation. Izzy or Stalin?

So lets discuss this.

I hate Stalin and Izzy is cute. At Monarch we can afford to do things less than optimally, let's protect peaches from the big bad commies, just like Franco did. Only without the secret police and assassinations. In fact, I would go so far as to declare now without worrying too much about Alex or waiting for the diplo bonus from a request...let's spice up ThERat's last game!

I agree with Ozbenno. Stalin wont trade with us until we are pleased, which we probably wont get even with mutual military. And its pointless to lose our only trading partner, stalin wont ever get troops anywhere near our cities anyways, unless he takes all of Izzy's cities, which I dont think will happen. And plus, if Stalin takes some of Izabellas cities, (which will then be lightly defended), we can take those and its basically the same as declaring on Isabella and taking her cities.

We should probably concentrate on units for a few turns before declaring, and start drafting jannisaries soon. If Atlas doesnt play in the next 5 or so hours, ill check the save and post some more detailed ideas.

I agree to take on Stalin

Look at that power graph!     Are you sure you know what you're doing?!

Then again, what I would do is weaken Stalin, then engage in a builderfest for centuries! And if I wanted to gain A LOT of money quickly, I would take over Spain (assuming that Isabella has founded BudHinJewism as in one of my games on Noble difficulty).:D :D :D :D :)

I've personally handled worse. And, he shars no borders with you. This is gold.

That said, how did STALIN gewt so big. Jeez, those Communist manifestos grew quickly!

My concern here is that we are very undefended, like not a single unit in many of the former Zulu lands. There will be no problem declaring on Stalin, defending Izzy, and then taking some of Stalin's cities. But my worry is Alex, I do not want to get boated and have him raze a city or 2 before a response can be made. So the way I see it, when gunpowder comes in I guess I could Draft crazy to prevent a boating, what do people think of that

What?

I checked the save

Isabella closed her borders with Alex when he declared war on us. She is annooyed with him, so there is no fear of a stack from Alex until he gets astronomy. The only problem with declaring on Stalin will be defending the cities we capture, but gunpowder is coming in 2 turns, which will give us the very powerful jannisaries.

We have more than enough happiness in our cities (With Ivory coming in soon). I would suggest drafting one unit from every city every 15 turns, we are in a very good position ATM to take on Stalin. Another thing, we are working 1f2c tiles in the capital again. I would either whip the university there, or build a lighthouse which takes 3 turns. Atlas can decide.

It will probably be beneficcial keep the war against alex going until he gives us some gold or something for peace, since he will have some WW but we wont.

[edit]Stalin has 540 gold, which we can get from him for Drama. Might be useful to make that trade right away because he will probably upgrade his troops next turn if we dont.

What technologies does Stalin have that The Sultan (that's my name for you guys now) doesn't? That will be quite instrumental to your evil plan.

He is apparently experiencing burn out and has said in another thread that after his current SGs finish he will be taking a long break. I'd like to take this one to Immortal with the same team, so let's try to make it interesting enough to keep him around a bit longer ;)

After the draft, I suggest you go into Vassalage to promote troops.:D

T0- So regardless of the power graph the team has decided to back Izzy in the coming fight. So lets go through the cities. Qwack says whip Istanbul and I agree, whip overflow will go to a lighthouse. Whip Bulawayo's library, this city needs some culture so that it can work its best tile.

Ndonakusuka is building military with no barracks?

So I put a barracks in the que before the longbow and then I will whip the barracks and put this city on permanent military duty. Konya is another city that will be on permanent miltary for the whole game, it only needs a granary, lighthouse, barracks and forge. Ondini is building longbow man with no barracks too and is working 3 coast tiles with no lighthouse.

T1-Overflows.

T2-Gunpowder in.

Only on this turn do I remember to get Stalin's gold. So he gets Drama for 630 gold.

Tech wise I just don't know where we want to go. KwaDukuza does not need a hamman, its population will never really be that high and we have so many happiness resources, this city should just be on military duty, but I don't know what to do with the hammers already invested in it? I guess I will let it finish, maybe at Biology it will need the happiness/healthiness?

Now for Civics, people said that drafting was the thing and I agree, however unless we want raw recruits (no promotions) we need Theology (and then to draft in cities with Judaism and barracks)- so I don't switch civics yet, wait til we can switch to theocracy at the same time as nationhood. Izzy won't provide it gratis

and we have nothing of comparable value to offer. So I set research Theology, hopefully a turn of research will knock the price down a bit.

Ulundi gets a theater whip to expand the borders to bring in a pig. This turn I also send a Maceman to go and examine the Spanish-Russian War. BTW Alexander does have compass, so while I doubt he is at Astro, we may want to go to the bottom of the tech tree to monitor just how far along he is.

T3- Isabella loses a hopeless city.

T4- Nothing. Spanish front looks pretty calm.

This turn Izzy will give Theology for 540 gold, about half of what we have. We can spend a turn at -104 gold and finish it, so I do that instead.

T5- Theology comes in, we have tons of cottages so I set research to Printing Press. And I switch civics.

3 turns of Anarchy- Ugh!

T7- Stalin comes asking for us to join the fight againist Izzy, uh no thanks comrade.

T8- Finally no Anarchy! Lets draft some units. We really don't have too many places to draft from, oh well, we will fix that!

T9- Draft 2 units and whip Janissary in Cap.

T10 Whip a university, draft a unit or two.

Basically what we need to do is to spread Judaism so that we draft some more.

The Ottoman city governors have been very mean to their populace in the last few decades, extensively sacrificing people for production, not to mention arming civilians with primitive guns against their will.

Eh, you guys sure love slavery and the draft, huh. Well:

Vassalage: When fighting with the same technology as your opponent (or worse technology!).

Nationhood: When fighting an enemy with inferior technology (such as infantry and cavalry vs. conquistadors and riflemen) or when you suddenly need a number advantage.

Believe it or not, I used to like Vassalage more than the draft. I always preferred quality over quantity, basically.:crazyeye: Now it is the other way around.

Swein, I thought someone told you already to keep your wisdom to yourself...we know how to play CIV...so stop posting your 'enlightning' comments, please
