Realms Beyond Emperor: The DSG's

Thanks Skyfish. They skirt around my question but never really address it directly. I have installed the 1.21 patch and then reinstalled the 1.14 patch over it without uninstalling and reinstalling the entire game, and my game lists itself as being version 1.14f. Since you have followed me in CF2 after I did this, and I am pretty sure that you have not patched because of availability, right (?), I will assume that there is no problem with it.

With the (very) successful completion of RBP6 (MOW) we're ready for another
SG. The top choice has been a rematch of Defiant Nationalists, this time with
China (Mil/Ind).

I wanted to announce this game here in order to coordinate new games
starting. Arathorn (welcome back) is looking to host LOTR5, Lee has just
started LK44 AW 1.14, and Todd Marshall suggested a One Built City (OBC) game
which sounds interesting. That could go very cultural, or quite militaristic
depending on who was playing and the neighbors and conditions.

The game I'm most interested in actually, is T-Hawk's game with Zulus for
20K Culture in captured city. Having just watched the Shaka mini-series this
would be very interesting, especially if we could manage to start next to England
and shoot for a London 20K.

So basically I wanted to announce the imminent start of RBP7 Defiant Chinese Nationalists,
especially to let RBP5 participants get a chance to join... to see if there are more
takers for T-Hawk's zulu game, and recommend LOTR5 and the OBC if there are more
folks wanting to start a new one (and highlight LK44/45 if anyone is stuck in 1.14)

Charis

Yeah, the Zulu game has been in the back of my mind for a while; it just hasn't had any other interest besides you. Charis, if you really wanted, I could do a Sirian-style two-player SG with it :) But if anyone else would like to play - it's definitely not a high-commitment game; small map, some ancient war, then mostly building - say so.

The Zulu game is so whacked that is sounds somewhat interesting. My big question is what level? Deity would be impossible, and even emperor would be very hard due to the late start on culture.

I suspect we would really have to try for heavy war to get enough leaders to rush one or two key wonders. Of course the captured city could be the fp for +3, and hopefully heroic epic.

I proposed it back a couple pages. It's pretty simple: the goal is to get a 20k cultural win, in a city that you captured from an opponent. Deity would be crazy for sure; it'd be a straight-up Emperor game. It'll be a bit of a challenge, yeah, but that's the fun of it, of course. Warring for not territory but for GLs could add an interesting dimension to the game, and the 2050 time limit might also.

Small map, 30% pangaea. Civ: Zulu, because the civ attributes fit well (find out where the enemies are, then go attack them), and for the theme (they're horrible at building culture, so what if they tried to conquer it?)

Cartouche, if you and Lee confirm with interest, I'll go ahead and start the thread and the game. What number is RBP up to? This would be 8?

OK, with the map being small (low time commitment), I will sign up.
I am now at my limit on games until something ends.

The One Built City Idea:

Difficulty: Emperor
Map: Small/Temperate/Flat/Pangea/ 20% land with optimal # of cities for corruption changed to 12 from 14 (so we can build the FP -see below)
Opponents 5 - No scientific Civs, otherwise random or maybe handpicking civs with low cultural priority (Rome/zulu come to mind)

Varient Rules:
We may only build One city ever.

We may obtain up to 5 more cities maximum (enough for fp), but must propaganda/flip/capture them, they must be capable of joining boarders with one of our current cities on first boarder expansion which must be done asap by rushbuy or whip of a culture building, even if it isnt ordinarily a prudent thing to do, and the city may work no citizens until it has a trade route and joined boarders with the capital.

Once we take ownersip of a city, it is our city and may never be abandoned or replaced. If it is razed, then we just have to plug along with no more than 5 total cities the rest of the game. If it is captured, we must make every reasonable effort to recapture it.

I know this doesn't sound too tough, but the kicker is that we are going for space ship victory, with all but culture enabled. (Might be impossible on Dieity with these restrictions, which is why I suggested Emperor or maybe emperor plus with a 70% cost factor for the AI).

I have won this on Monarch, so it is doable on that level. I did have a pretty ideal start though. It would likely require a good, but not overwhelming start. Food bonuses wouldn't be a big item, but a river and costal access (so we could build the Colossus) and a non jungle wasteland area would be a huge help.

Civ would probably need to be scientific.

If you'd like, I'll be happy to create a map for the OBC game. Just give me the parameters once you have your team and preferences established and I'll set it up so you'll have a fair, but unknown, map.

I'm suspecting that most of the dieity capable players plates are pretty full atm with RBP7 and 8, LK43 and 44, and LOTR5 all starting at almost the same time, not to mention a few others right smack in the middle, so unless there is overwheling interst in starting something like this immediately...... which i doubit..... I'd be looking to do this after the defiant game. I would like to know if anyone would be interested in this idea or have any comments on the rules though.

@Reagan- I might take you up on that, but i think it might be better to have a truely random start that would be considerd nice, but not necesarily superlative for an OCC start. I think the only thing that is really mandetory would be a fresh water start awayor mostly away from the jungle. it would be nice to be coastal, and have one or 2 resources in the 21 but we should be able to win w/o that.

[Lurker on]Hmm, this game looks interesting, though I doubt that this is a Deity Training Day Game[/lurker off]

I wasn't offering a "room service" map to make the game easy to win. Rather, I was offering to make a "bare minimum" map so that you, for instance, didn't end up with your dreaded jungle-surrounded start or on a "pangea" of the sort we had for the Naked Vikings game.

I thought you were offering to make a starting location basically. OK, sure, sounds good to me. Just a river and not in the middle of the jungle or way out on a pointy pininsula sounds wonderful. Coast would be nice but not TOO coastal and it doesnt HAVE to be on a coast if it looks otherwise good. If it has at least 10-11 good land tile to work before hospitals, its fine. Anywhere that looks like a good occ start would be goodo basically. We'll play what we are dealt with any cities we would be going after or fliping. :goodjob:

Cool, Todd. Once you start the thread, get your lineup, and pick your civ, let me know. If you give me the final detailed parameters, I'll set it up.

I am interested in Joining this Group. I understand that I have to Beat a Deity game or Partisipate in a SG that is on a Deity Difficulty Level. Please give me any information on how to Show Prof of actualy Compleating Deity. I am planing to also Start my own Solo Deity game (I am giving thanks to Sirp and Dave for the advice to keep me afloat). It would be a rough ride, but I hope to have Deity as a Normal Difficalty Level.

Thanks and wish me luck in my Deity Journey,
CivGeneral
