President of the United States
Athers slammed open the doors to the citadel center, still feeling shaken from the battle with Red Feather. He strode forward towards Lord Whosit, standing in the center of the room staring at a map on a large table. There were little white and purple counters on it, and occasionally a man with a long pole would shift one to a new position. Whosit was darkly contemplating one pair that were drawing inexorably towards Ravus from the north and a trio coming from the south. Athers looked at the map for a moment, then sighed and looked at Whosit.
"My lord, we have a problem."
Whosit threw up his hands. "What now!?!? The Russians? The Carthaginians? A giant Caesar robot?"
"Nothing that simple. You may know that me and my men have varied pasts?"
Whosit nodded slowly, starting to sense a theme.
"Well, I was born across the ocean in a land called America. A city named Mound City, to be precise. I was a detective there, and learned to fight, becoming something of a vigilante. However, at one point I was fighting a group of thugs and shot one in the wrong place. Turned out he was the cousin of our ruler, Sitting Bull, and the high chief was unhappy with my action. So I had to flee, and found my way to a place called 'New York' in a land called the United States of America. Ruled by a wise man named Lincoln. He got me a ship across to a place called 'Inca'. Masters, my second-in-command, was one of the men on that ship. A convict, as a matter of fact, for a murder - of a guy who was attacking him. The two of us agreed to find a land where we could start anew.
"Our journey into Incan lands ended quickly - but we picked up a few more men who needed a new start. We crossed a great ocean called the Pacific and entered a land called 'Korea' where we learned unarmed fighting techniques from wise masters. I think that was about where we began to think about forming a fighting unit - however, when we left Korea and arrived in 'Japan' for more training . . . ."
"Someone found you?"
"Exactly. A man called Red Feather. He's Sitting Bull's younger brother, and is gifted by their gods with incredible strength and stamina. In Japan I shoved him off a cliff after running him through with a Naginata - and he jumped back up and broke my spine. Masters fired a ballista at him and stunned him long enough for the preists to get me to safety while Masters lured Feather onto a ship then sent it out into Tokyo Bay and blew it up. Never saw Red Feather again -"
"Until today?"
"Yes." Athers then went on to explain what had happened. "I don't know if it's even possible to kill him." He finished. "I know that the Night Eagles couldn't do it. If we have an archenemy, it's him. Well, him and Joker, back in the US. Lincoln is struggling with him even now. And . . ."
"What?? Do we have to face THAT guy too???"
"No. But Sulla somehow survived the explosion and being bucked by his horse into a patch of fire - only winded and not even singed. There's only one possibility."
"He's another of Sitting Bull's brothers?"
"No. Amanara."
"Who now!?!?!"
"An Egyptian priest - a worshiper of Set, the god of darkness and chaos. She tried to sacrifice . . . a woman I knew there to Set and we stopped her. I ran her through and kicked her into a flaming pit, actually. However, I've thought I've seen her around Eagle Base recently, and she possesses powers given by Set - one is shape-shifting and another is the ability to return from death. I thought that we interrupted that ritual by killing her before the sacrifice, but now that I think about it there was nothing in the spell's description that said a sacrifice was needed - just human blood tossed into a flaming pit."
"Uh-oh"
"Exactly. We have two major problems if I'm right. She also is an avatar of Set and can use divine powers of his if pressed. We barely won last time and I don't know if we can do it again."
Suddenly the door burst open again. "Lord Whosit! They're here!"
"To your posts!" Whosit cried. He then turned and grabbed Athers by the arm. "Trust my men to handle the Romans - you deal with Amanara and Red Feather if they're here. I hope you're up to the task - we have no power other then yours to match those two."
Isn't this shaping up nicely? My characters have taken over the story at last!
