Total War?

The question has recently arisen in military circles of whether Britain's war against Rome ought to be prosecuted to the utmost finish to avenge the horrendous death toll at Ravus-York and the unprovoked attack launched by Rome. However, many wish simply for things to go back to "the way things were" Ante Bellum, as the Latin phrase goes. What is the stance of the administration?

- Lighthearter

No. We intend to keep anything we grab and extort as much out of Rome as possible. And Antium-Rome won't work since they have a Northern Italy City.

Antium- Italy then. And we are in this war for keeps now IMO. When we are done, there will be no Roman Empire.

Yeah, if we can grab Western Europe, we'll be able to stand up to the Russians if they come calling.
And we need to establish good relations with these three civs pronto (in order of importance)
Viking
Russia
Carthage

Ummm from the look of it you forgot to declare us a christian nation :p

Antium only has three troops in it so it shouldn't be too hard to take if that is what people want. As long as you fortify in the forest to the south so when you launch the assault you arn't crossing a river to do so. For those who recomend ignoring Antium i am confused, why would you do so? It would make the campaign HARDER as you would have no clear line of reinforcements not to mention if you take antium you take away some of the roman culture.

ALSO: Remember the war could end at any moment. If you took rome and then the romans capitulated to russia you get suckered and left with a city deep in enemy terrirtory thats now useless because of culture.

ALSO 2: The front line is not US. the front line where all the roman troops are is in russia people. Antium has THREE TROOPS.

I'd recomend the burning of setia in northern italy then refound our own city in the eastern pass. It's a one tile opening that can be used as a perfect defence city into Rome. *shrug* can't see the greek lands though so i'm unsure how close the rest of the cities are.

On Total War
The English people should take what cities they can keep both militarily and upkeep wise. That means we don't overextend ourselves. But we do try to get as much out of this as possible. Rome is most likely a good city to get but we should get antium first. Its basic strategy. If we had two armies and a good navy i'd definatly be saying to go for Rome. But at the moment we would have to fight through enemy Tiremes. Has anyone thought about how hard it will now be to ship reinforcements to the mainland till they are dead? We have catapults now so antium will fall easily. The bombardment time will simply let a second set of reinforcements come through to continue the push to Rome.

Okay some detailed comments on these events will come tomorow but for now this will suffice:

1. Damn General Haulsee for single-handedly ruining my plan and taking the chance of losing Iberia to the romans. Congrats on his victory, but I would rather he think about the consequences first. Now we have an extended front, and do not have the security of the pyrenees to protect us should rome focus on us again.

2. I am not a Lord! With my current staus in the admin, i think that either general of the army, or field marshal can replace it. Or plain Arya. But not Lord.

3. To total war, perhaps in the future, but right nows we must focus on taking and holding roman cities and territory, not making life hell for romans. That will come later.

4. How far into the ukraine and belarus are the vikings and russians? How strong is the roman prescense both there, and on their way there?

5. Aysee i disagree with your stance on russia. I think that we should prepare for conflict with them in the future, not attempt to make friends with them that will fail. In my opinion, we should not have any long term allies. But thats just me. MAYBE the vikings, but carthage is in our way as well.

6. How would a roman capitualtion to russia end OUR war with them? Wouldnt we just go to war with russia as well?

7. Germany is a VITAL priority. Dont just focus on Rome.

8. Ravus, avoiding spam here is impossible since the discussion gradually descends into spam, we dont just decide to spam for the heck of it.

9. I support keeping the northern italian city of 'settia' that you are calling it, and merely building a fort on both sides of the eastern pass in the alps. Why destroy a developed city just to build a new one that we would have to nurture?

More tomorow.

I wish it were so i truely do. But that isn't how it would work in this case.

If Russia + Rome are at peace, then Russia would declare on us and we would stay at war with rome who would now be a province of Russia.

If Russia + Rome are at war, then there would be a forced peace on all foes. As they are technically only a province of Russia we would need to declare war on russia to stay at war.

-

Thus if we want to stop a forced peace we would have to bribe Russia to end the war. Something i'm sure none of us want to do.

Thank you for the update, Reporter Lighthearter.

I have to concur with Ravus' concern: Did you forget to convert us to Christianity? How about revolting to Hereditary Rule and Theocracy? The latter doesn't function without a state religion, and we could use the extra experience. And did you get Horseback Riding in trade, as well?

The good news is that London looks content, and Iberia more improved. As for the "new" town of Amsterdam ... did you, um ... delete the river? Are you planning to put that back in? :mischief: It looks like the city popped up in a different location than I thought, so the artist bomb didn't work quite like I anticipated, but it still gave us several tiles, so that's good.

Personally, I am glad that we have Ravus-York back. Taking initiative when the enemy appears weak--I approve.

Research: Looks like Code of Laws is nearly done. I don't think that there are really any other military techs that we need right now (Feudalism is available, but it's quite pricey), so perhaps we can research Aesthetics and Literature in order to make an attempt to build the Great Library.

We'd better get a Trireme built to defeat the Roman one that was built. I really didn't expect them to build that right away in Ravus-York.

Arya, I do not understand this policy you have about not cultivating long-term friends? How could this help us? Friends are less likely to attack us, more willing to trade with us, and generally make us more secure. And there is nothing that prevents us from turning on our friends when it becomes convenient .... :mischief: A policy of isolation will hurt us in the end, I feel.

I could do with a more detailed map of the Italian peninsula, but I think we should keep Setia. Moving it would secure the east, but the city can make use of those clams, which would go to waste otherwise. Not quite sure how close Rome is, though.

As for the war path, bypassing Antium would just be silly. Since it looks like it is weakly garrisoned, I'd say that we take Antium (taking care to be on the right side of the river under cover of forest with plenty of siege), and work our way down Italy. I'd be curious to know what Russia wants to end the war, but that's only an issue if either Russia or Rome knows Feudalism. Is this the case? If it has not been discovered yet, we don't have to worry.

So, remember: Convert to Christianity, Hereditary Rule, and Theocracy! We want those extra experience points and extra happiness!

It looks like Currency has really helped. In the last screen shot, we have a large surplus. You may want to run the science slider higher and run a larger deficit. You can always set the slider to 0% for a few turns to build up more cash if you run out.

And finally, OT is so much worse than this. At least stupid (im)Perfection doesn't roam around RP like some stupid barbarian Axe.

Hi!

Joining the game and Imperial Party.

Notes:

- Cull is in Switzerland after a romp from Germany and Poland down to Rome.
- We have traded for Monarchy with Ramesses and given him Theocracy, however he wouldn't trade HBR. He also gave us 180 gold.
- The Egyptians seem to like us.
- Caesar has gone from Germany 1940 to Japan 1944 in situation.
- The Manhattan Project has still produced no results, unfortunately. We are considering cutting their funding.

Welcome, Perfection! I'll log your entry in just a moment. Hope you enjoy the game - just be prepared for some spammyness.:crazyeye:

But in other news hello and welcome Perfection :goodjob:

Looks like the egyptians could be good allyes to cultivate. Darn that Manhatten project for not working in the middle-ages. So are we in HR and Theo civics or was it just the Christian thing that was forgotten?

*sigh*, ill be on later to comment on the comments of the comments. But, the reason i dont like allies is they are a waste of time, they drag us into wars, we dont have any way of an 'official' alliance yet(alliance or defensive pact), they can backstab us. BUT, i wont cmplain if we 'ally' egypt, but i would like to take down vikingdom in the future. Distant future of course.

Can we just declare war on russia the turn after rome capitulates? Also, will we still hold any territory we have taken from the romans, like antium or rome if they capitulate?

Would it not be better to keep the peace for a couple of years, to improve our economy and and build up a more "modern" force to be able to take the Roman/Russian Empires?

We could declare on russia instantly... but, and you knew there was a but, any gains we got from taking more of roman lands wouldn't add to russian war wearyness. so we would need to fight through roman lands completly and THEN beat up russia a bit to get peace. We're talking about a 100 turn war minimum.

Meh. Cozy up with Russia so that when the war comes, it will be on OUR terms.

Antium has 3 units? Wow. Then we need to assault it from the southern forest. Then move down through Italy. Couldn't Lighthearter, just you know...move Setia?:mischief:

After that, just move through Germany until he makes peace. Simple. And don't worry about the ai getting Feudalism. It's a monster tech to research, so it's in the future.

I did say to convert to Christianity. It was in my first domestic policy post, and I could have sworn that I mentioned it a couple other times since then, but maybe those were lost in the spam. I also suggested that you wait until we have Theo + Construction to try and get Monarchy + HBR from Egypt, but we can live without HBR for now.

Welcome, Perfection.

Edit: No. No more moving cities. At least during my term. It just makes everything more confusing.

Feudalism does take a lot of time to research, but the AI tends to prioritize it, so I'd keep my eye on the tech trade screen, just to be careful.

NO MORE MOVING CITIES!!!!! MR.PRESIDENT HAS SPOKEN!!!!!

-On that note, after courthouses/CoL, I'm thinking Monarchy, or Machinery.
